I just tried to install eonic2.x got the following error
"EONIC2.X COULD NOT BE OPENED. PLEASE REINSTALL"
REQUIRED DLL FILE D3D8DL.DLL was not found.

Dunno where that file is from, or where you can get it, but looking at the filename I'd hazard a guess at DirectX (more specifically Direct 3D)

on someones advice who loves to tinker with all the settings and winamp I downloaded a version that contained the directx so I am guessing i need to look within direstx but not sure how to go about it.
I have direct 7.1 so I am guessing I may have set the program up wrong any suggestion would be appreciated.

DirectX packaged with Winamp? 😕
You might try getting the latest version of DirectX (8.1 I think). That might have the file you need. It can't hurt anyway. You might try a search engine for the file. I remember once finding a site with all the necessary DLLs to run windows available for download. (needed new kernel32.dll after mine got corrupted) Otherwise, sorry.

Actually you have posted this on the wrong forum but never mind I will move it for you. AVS is actually a type of plug-in like Eonic, R2e, Tripex, Milkdrop, etc.🙂
Anyway your problem is that you need DirectX 8 or above for Eonic to work correctly.
Get the newest version of DirectX here

ANd although the date states the back end of last year it is esentially the same version as Mid 2001.

I am a long way off from figuring all this stuff out but am enjoying it.
I basically just stuck to the top staff rated downloads so far and have been very pleased.
My grandson loves them especially the men in black II, he even has differant reactions to differant styles of music and for a 1 year old has a great love of all types(better then the tv in my books)
he actually has earphones and his own monitor kinda cute to watch.
I am really enjoying the radio stations as well.
I have been told to try APE but am not sure what it is or where it is located I would appreciate a point in the right direction.
I plan on enjoying winamp lots.

APE is simply put advanced effects for AVS. A sort of plug-in for a plug-in. 🙂
When/if you download AVS preset packs (www.winamp.com misleading refers to AVS preset packs as plug-ins to confuse matters further 🙂) the APE's are included for you so don't worry about it. You will never see APE appear anywhere, it will all be invisable.
Milkdrop I didn't write it that honour goes to Mr. Geiss but it is my website and write effects for it....and I give Ryan Geiss a kick when he gets to lazy about bringing out a new version. 😉

I did however pay careful attention to dates on comments on many of the opinions on what I am downloading.
A friend at another forum spends literally hours on tweaking winamp and has made up a nice system and he runs several differant ones with differant setups.
Everyone around us is amazed at the way my grandson reacts to music he has definate preferences childrens music not being the top pick.
This week it seems to be
