AVS disappears when detached

so for the longest time i thought AVS was just completely broken for me, it worked fine at one point but then one day it just stopped. but today i just figured out that it's only when the visualization window is detached. i ran milkdrop which opened the visualizer window, then re-attached the visualizer to winamp and activated AVS, and it works perfectly! but when i click detach visualizer, it completely disappears and i have to do the milkdrop loophole to get it back. anyone know what could cause this? i tried to look it up but i cant find anything :/
