New Tool: Bring Back AVS Fullscreen Desktop Overlay!

Hey everyone,

If you still love firing AVS for some retro eye candy, you probably noticed that the classic "desktop overlay" mode has been broken ever since Windows Vista.
I missed it too so I built a tool to bring it back! 🎉

Introducing AVS Overlay, a lightweight app that mirrors the AVS render window in fullscreen on any monitor, using modern Windows APIs (DWM thumbnails).
No weird hacks, no screen recording, it's clean and fast.

Main features:
  • Fullscreen mirroring of the AVS window
  • Multi-monitor support
  • Precise cropping (to hide those pesky window borders)
  • Auto-reconnect if AVS restarts
  • Can launch multiple instances on multiple screens

Perfect for:
  • Retro-themed parties
  • DIY VJ setups
  • Home "trip rooms" 😉
  • Or just reliving the early 2000s properly

Runs on Windows 10/11 and works with both classic and modern Winamp builds.
You can tweak everything via command-line options (monitor selection, crop margins, etc.).

Let me know if you try it out — I'd love to hear feedback, suggestions, or any crazy setups you create with it!
Long live AVS! 🧡🦙

I'll take your word for it. I don't use .NET 8 nor want to install it and since it is only used for "building" it... why not share the .exe already built? I do have multi-monitor and use 5.66 but I'll keep my AVS to main screen for now. Nice idea.
