I have a piece of poetry music mix that I would like to submit to a satalite channel to be aired. I just wanted to check out the legal implications because I wanted to play this piece through winamp with winamps visualisations and capture it on vhs / dvd and then submit that as a package for broadcast. Ive captured these visuals on vhs before with music and my friend then recorded this vhs to dvd on his stand alone recorder. What are the legal/copyright issues if any? Please dont be offended. I mean no harm and hold the most repect to the people who come up with these visuals and Nullsoft. Also if this is a no-go can any one recomend an appropriate software which provides beat/sound reactive visuals but is fairly easy to use and not excessively expensive? If you want to see and hear my piece in action, visit http://herc.podomatic.com , when you find my page download the track named The Subconcious. Play it through Winamp using the visuals in full screen mode. I could do with visuals that can be transfered to the TV so I hope you dont mind me asking.

Well the copyright always belongs to whoever created the visualization you are using. So if you're using AVS the credit goes to the preset maker and you have to ask him/her if you can use it.
As a general note, if you're not making any profit from it (in any form) it should be okay to use what visualization you like. Because we AVS artists, we create visualizations for everyone to enjoy for free! And we wouldn't want anyone to make profit out of our hardwork.

Thanks for that. It would seem that initially if I was offered a sum for this combination of my music plus words and the AVS Artist work as one piece, I would be better off refusing any payment but giving the avs artist a VERY BIG mention then?
You could get by with that, but i wouldn't use the AVS work at all then, because the one you're "selling" this combination might use it for business applications.
You could just make your own AVS presets, it's not hard and you could avoid any copyright problems as it's your own work.

I'd like to try and create or develop my own visualisations for music but really havent a clue where to start.
Can you tell me what software do I use?

Thanks for that. I'll try it.
