Help ! Do not know where and how and if!

Hi @ all!

I am new here, and have never done a visualisation.
I try to find out if Winamp is the right platform.

What do I want to do?
a) I would like to create a GUI where I can use all capabilities of Winamp (Video play, Audio play, maybe some plugins, etc.
b) The GUI should be a custom-made GUI.
c) The GUI should have other dimensions not like Winamp.
D) The dimensions should be scalable to full screen in a high resolution.

Questions:
Q1: Could I do this with Winamp?
Q2: Which Winamp would be the best to do that?
Q3: Is there an existing SDK for Winamp 5+, or is the 3.X or 2.X compatible to that?
Q4: If I write this "creation" Plugin or whatever, could this be copyright protected to me.
Q5: Is it possible to use Winamp for commercial use? E.G. as Basic Background tool?
Q6: Are there legal restrictions in using this platform?

Hope somebody could help me. I try since some time to figure these questions out, but cannot find the answers.

Thx!

Sorry, wrong forum maybe?
or maybe im just misunderstanding that what you say has nothing to do with avs?

This forum is specifically just for AVS.

I can't really help you much as you aren't giving anything specific. It sounds almost like you just want to create an entirely new media program...

A visualisation means a (dynamic) animation that represents music.

Sounds like you just want to make a custom skin. You can make freeform skins with Winamp3 and 5. Moving to the appropriate forum.

Now that's the most useless post I've come across till now. I wonder how you got Forum King 😛

Thanks for all comments,

but it does not help me a lot!
Could anybody answer a few questions, please??

Oki, What do I want to do?

a) I like using Winamp, and I know there is a way to build plugins and skins etc.

b) I have a mp3 Collection. I like to have a music box, like the old one's. Coin in, choose a titel, play!

c) bringing this things together! (without coins etc.)

but a GUI what could be used by everyone!!!! Easy!!!!
with the capabilities of Winamp!!!!

Struggles:
I would like to have (a the end of the day, Week or month :-) ) touch screen in my living room wich can be use as a Multimedia Desktop. Should have a nice resulution (not the low res Winamp, if zoomed)

Winamp can do this, but I would like to have a GUI wich can be handeled by every person who can read! (Would like to implemant a data base etc. but this is an other thing)!!

Could somebody comment this?? Is this doable? Otherwise I would write another GUI or use other Players etc.

Do not know now but will find out!

Thx

Oki,

What I dismiss before starting this thread, was playing around with the new Version 5.X.

And what I saw looks really good. Everything is nearly there!!!! 😉

So let me ask new Q's!

Could I influence the skins, to make the buttons, and appearance bigger, e.g to get a touch screen driven with it? Full Screnn mode, even the Media Lib etc.

could this work be done with a new skin? Even I would implement later the Video (Full Screen) funktion to it?

Could sombody of the experience user maybe comment this? If this make sence? I hope the problem is clear? If not let me know!

By the way,

What do I have to use to develop a new skin for Winamp 5,

to implement bigger buttons etc.

Is there a tool kit or somthing else?

yes you can make a fullscreen mode and yes the fullscreen video will work then

you just have to make a new skin and code it, according to me there isn't a tool kit for skinning modern skins

Thanks a lot.

I was going through it.
Could somebody tell me what version do I have to use if I would like to develop for Winamp 5.

Currently I was trying V3.
How do I Compile a .m file to a .maki file?
I think in Version Winamp5 is nothing like the mc.exe to compile it?

Blue

just use the mc.exe from wa3 that will do, but compile the *.m in ..\winamp3\skins\your skin\scripts
