AVS Configuration Problems HELP ME!
I have WinAmps AVS 2.0 and I have tonss and tons of AVS Pre-sets. I can configure other Visualization plug-ins like Giess etc. But the AVS Plug-in won't let me configure it, or select pre-sets. I can select it and hit start plug-in and the same pre-set plays and thats all I get. I used to be able to select from all my pre-sets or set it to random pre-set. Now when I click on configure AVS All I get is this pop up dialog box that says:
Advanced Visualization Studio 2.5
Copyright(C) 1998 -2001 Nullsoft
Advanced Visualization Studio:
What we (at Nullsoft) use to (try to) get chicks at parties.
Blah Blah Blah
Can someone please help me get my AVS back the way it was. I used this visualizastion ALOT because it was able to be set as my desktop background and I loved how it looked on random presets.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The AVS config is a bit weird.:weird:
Stupidily you cannot configure it from the config box - why do some vis plug-ins not use the 'CONFIG' box do they not know what the word means?!?!?...but let's not AVS bash here. :p (MilkDrop, MilkDrop..);)
You have run it in docked mode (If it is full screen switch to the docked version by pressing shift & enter) and change the settings.
Setting--> Presets/Hotkeys.
Then select the random change time, directory, etc.
Don't worry it is not clear - it took me a couple of week to understand as well.
Hope it all helps.

Right-click on the vis window to get a list of presets in your AVS dir. Double-click to open the editor window, you can change the settings from there.

I can't get it to go into "Docked" mode
I did as you suggested and tried to get it into "Docked" mode by hitting Shift and Enter but no luck.
Below is what my Winamp.ini file looks like, if you look closely at the AVS part it says its Docked by I know better its on my desktop still. Maybe someone would like to send me a good version of the winamp.ini file so I can fix this problem.
My Winamp.ini file looks like so:

I think maybe the configure window may be open but just off screen and I can't see it or grab it. (At least thats my suspicion)

Try changing the line that says 'cfg_cfgwnd_y=979'... that number seems a bit high to me. Perhaps you moved AVS to the lower part of the screen on a higher resolution, and changed to a lower one a while ago. I will add this 'bug' to the AVS wishlist with the next update :).
By the way Rovastar, you don't need to dock AVS to configure it... simply double-click the AVS display to open the preset editor/options.
The reason the 'config' button doesn't work is because AVS can only be configured while it is running (logically). When you press the config button, Winamp loads the plug-in DLL but doesn't give sound data to it... (you're only 'configuring' it). Now you now :) I really don't think the Nullsoft people would misunderstand 'config'... :p Of course they could split the AVS editor into a preset editing dialog and an AVS options dialog, but I haven't heard many people complain about the way it is now really.
Rovastar
22nd March 2002 02:29 UTC
I should have used the term windowed instead of docked really. Mistake on my part.
Obviously Nullsoft know what 'config' means...............they think it means 'about' :D;):p:rolleyes:

thnx a million guys fixed the prob
it was the 'cfg_cfgwnd_y=979' number WAS too high.
thnx now I can go on enjoying my visual tripping while on IRC again.
BTW, I've only been able to get the AVS to allow me to Configure it running alo but only in Windowed/Docked mode or whatever. By right clicking on the window. Whats this about double clicking something?
Jaheckelsafar

If you doubleclick to window, it opens the AVS editor (the same window you get if you right click and select 'dock in config') from there you can use the settings menu to configure AVS more than just selecting which plugin to use. (tho I suspect you know the last bit)
UnConeD

Well there are three modes:
- windowed (separate window)
- docked (inside the AVS configuration)
- fullscreen
You can config in all of them except Fullscreen. When in windowed mode, you can double-click the display to open the AVS preset editor. I don't see the point of being able to config it in fullscreen though... the AVS interface covers a large part of the screen, so how could you see what you're doing?
RovaStar: Milkdrop is annoying too, you can't even start it without sound data, and it freezes when the music stops :D :weird: :p ;) (note excessive abuse of smileys)
Illusion

On Rovastar's behalf - touche. :)
But why would you be running an mp3 player when it's not playing mp3s? The whole point of a plugin is to react to music - and therefore it shouldn't react if there is no music to react to... :):blah:
Rovastar
22nd March 2002 15:19 UTC
Yes Illusion you beat me to the touché.
It is a good point though UnConeD. It does get really annoying when you are editing the presets and the music stops. And everything freezes until you restart the music from the keyboard shortcuts.
I might add it to the MD wishlist.
At least we have a developer that reads OUR wishlist and visit the designated forum area.;):p:D......well sometimes he does anyway........

Ok then, why don't we post pictures here of Justin and Ryan and see just who wins the Mister Whip-ass-plugin 2002  award? Extra points scored for geeky glasses and matching ThinkGeek-style t-shirt! :igor: :D :weird:
And really, who needs a developer who cares about wishlists? That 'I don't give a shit'-attitude simply turns me on! People want to vent their wishes somewhere, and we have exactly that. Actually fullfilling a wish is not the point.
(Mmmm can anyone tell me why we don't have these whacked threads around all the time? Goofing off is neat, but this forum is just too serious! :) :D)
Jaheckelsafar
22nd March 2002 15:49 UTC
Milkdrop is newer than AVS and doesn't have as large a userbase? All the fun hasn't been squashed out of people in the MD formus by bad review + trolls.
Just wait 'till smoke catches on, there'll be some pretty whacked out threads in there:).
P.S. The GD has a whacked 'The ABC game' thread.
Illusion
23rd March 2002 06:10 UTC
Not sure that Smoke is really gonna "catch on" - as mentioned elsewhere, it was never intended to be as customisable as AVS or MD, which is why the forums have had like 30 posts (compared to a few thousand for AVS & MD).
BTW, I want to see a Rovastar & Ryan Geiss vs Unconed & Justin Frankel battle royale :D That would decide once and for all whether AVS or MD is better ;) :blah:
Yeah, and who wants a developer that listens to features? Cause we are only the users after all  :)

I already in training. Now where is that neglected gym membership card.....
UnConeD

Hah...gym membership card. Thanks to my incredible psychokinetic powers, I don't need to rely on muscular power! Surely you realise that this is a battle you cannot win. :weird: :D :p
After all, without Justin there would be no Milkdrop (he wrote both the player it plugs in to and the expression evaluation library that drives it). The opposite is not true :P.
