Will there ever be another version of AVS?
Does anyone know if there is a new version of AVS even in the works or is everyone just a clueless as me?

There is work on avs with new effects.. Don't know when it'll be out.
There may be an avs wishlist forum soon for you to post your avs effects requests for someone to (hopefully) read.
For now start a new thread saying what effects and features you want included.
