Wfc7
Lets do WFC7.

I'm willing to do all the gathering of presets, making of installers etc. plus it would give me a reason to write a preset beyond finishing my own "4 years late" pack.

I'm thinking no strict limits on preset count, but preferably 2-4 from each artist and one remix each.

Sound fun?

3rd January 2008 13:48 UTC

-_-' why do i have the feeling i should have kept my big mouth shut this time.

3rd January 2008 13:51 UTC

ahh wth i'll try it

3rd January 2008 16:43 UTC

i wasn't serious about any of the tech stuff... just the less remixes. i tire of the swathes of remixes available in these packs.

3rd January 2008 17:36 UTC

lol i should have figured. i do really want to be part of this. i'll have 2 nice presets before long.

3rd January 2008 18:32 UTC

i urge all contributors to send submissions together with all required external files such as texer images. that's most of the work i had with past wfc packs. send submissions as one zip file that includes all the presets and extra files, maybe you can even adapt the naming system for your presets minus the preset number.

4th January 2008 11:10 UTC

Is anyone in yet?

I had better do something to the topic in #avs when I get home today...

4th January 2008 18:32 UTC

I might be up for it, but I'll see if I can make any thing decent before I commit.

4th January 2008 20:15 UTC

I'm in :)

Are you to Jheriko? (with presets and remixing? - I would like to see some stuff from you - maybe more of this awsome Hypercube projection.) You (and Pak's) projections really turned a switch in my head. I don't understand the preset, but i really got interested for 4d ... . (by the way this: http://www.polytope.de/arch4.html is a very cool page - it's in german, but with some random clicks it might still keep up your fascination).

5th January 2008 01:07 UTC

I am in. I feel the need to make a preset... for some bizarre reason. :)

5th January 2008 05:56 UTC

Lol thats our Jheriko. why do i sense the smell of a mathematics based preset on Jherikos super computer.
good god i hope its another 4d no wait maybe i might be a 5d object. yay ^_^!!

7th January 2008 11:39 UTC

i'm hopefully in. although i have a bad run with the wfc's
i completely missed 4, my originals were never in 5, i said i'd be in 6 but never made anything, but this time.. this time i'll give it my best!

7th January 2008 11:53 UTC

looks like a few of us are in. time to start making presets...

Nanaki: 5D is on my list of possibilities. I was thinking of projecting the 5-simplex onto a 4-sphere onto a 3-plane onto a 2-plane...

send them to me at jheriko@gmail.com

7th January 2008 12:15 UTC

i have an idea for something kickarse, but it involves dual 3d rotation and i'm trying to teach myself triangles at the same time. i doubt it'll be ready any time soon, but hopefully i'll have 2 or 3 polished presets to send in

7th January 2008 14:38 UTC

preliminary deadline: april 08. that gives us a good 3 months to get started.

13th January 2008 20:20 UTC

well, of course i'm in.

14th January 2008 14:33 UTC

i can't wait to see what you come up with gc.

15th January 2008 22:33 UTC

I completely neglected to mention to e-mail me your presets: jheriko@gmail.com

Pretty much whenever...

16th January 2008 00:13 UTC

i'll try to be in, but i can't guarantee.
and i think i'll be releasing a new pack, as soon as yathosho takes a look at it. :P

18th January 2008 22:29 UTC

1st preset done but second needs work.
anyone know how to do 3d wall bouncing. i've tried converting a simple 2d window bounce code so that it detects a 3rd dimension but it just get borked after the 3rd hit on one of the walls.

19th January 2008 18:51 UTC

since i guess that in your 2d bouncing code x and y act independently from each other, i think it should be trivial to write the same lines a third time and use z's instead of x and y.
if you need anymore help, detail your probleme a little bit more...
gc

22nd January 2008 10:06 UTC

so its january now? maybe i should make a preset...

22nd January 2008 22:08 UTC

Idea.
I just watched Ghost In The Shell SAC SSS
and i noticed a interesting visual.
the visual consisted of dots following a line pattern on the joints in random intervals while following around the screen.
just wondered how i would be able to do that in avs.
this might be beyond me but i normally try these things without buffers but this sounds like it can only be done with them.

if yer confused on this then it might help if I say its the intro to the movie I'm speaking of.

any help in this would be greatly appreciated. i suck at buffers and normally these things escape but i really want to do that visual and was wondering if someone can make the basic structure of the buffers for me. so i can build the preset around it. all credit will be given off course.

22nd January 2008 23:15 UTC

i just watched a stimulating sex-video and i noticed and interesting nipple. just wondered how i would be able to do that in avs (and get away without sexism accusations).

wait, creativity is something else

23rd January 2008 23:39 UTC

-_-' i knew that was coming.

23rd January 2008 23:50 UTC

/me adds some humour to his remark

24th January 2008 00:00 UTC

sorry for that i was stressed out at that point.

25th January 2008 12:36 UTC

chillax. i stole tons of ideas for my presets... trying to recreate a specific effect is a good thing to do imo. it trains you in how to think about these things. and makes you realise precisely how useless a description like "the visual consisted of dots following a line pattern on the joints in random intervals while following around the screen." is.

got a picture?

I should probably download the film asap having watched both series (serieses? serii? f#@king english... irregular plural nouns... grrr). the wiki page is loaded with spoilers btw :/

25th January 2008 17:49 UTC

you should.. the movies are much better than the series :)

26th January 2008 02:40 UTC

</offtopic>

i have perhaps 4 decent presets in the works but with an april deadline, i should be able to polish them up nicely.

11th February 2008 13:10 UTC

well the deadline is flexible. so far I have recieved zero presets. :)

17th February 2008 16:21 UTC

i'll send mine in within a few days

21st February 2008 02:15 UTC

mine just vanished. grr and i even reshacked a huge 'save' button into the main window
going to bed now, it's 3am anyway

25th February 2008 13:52 UTC

man. sorry to hear that gc.

maybe its about time for me to actually do something to avs proper...

/maybe/

I could rant here about how trivial autosaves are to implement... but lets face it... i'm far to lazy to actually do that trivial work :p

26th February 2008 15:23 UTC

Is it possible to send only one preset and eventually add another one later?

4th March 2008 12:31 UTC

just sent in 4 presets

5th March 2008 13:27 UTC

Nice. I'll check my e-mail when I get home today. :)

Feel free to submit presets in any order or quantity...

5th March 2008 20:14 UTC

very good
expect one or two ...

7th March 2008 12:59 UTC

sent them

8th March 2008 00:30 UTC

coo. thx

10th March 2008 13:32 UTC

news?

11th March 2008 20:51 UTC

Hello!
I know i'm new to here but i have some ideas and a remix done for wfc, can i join?

13th March 2008 03:51 UTC

can we see some of your work?

13th March 2008 16:44 UTC

Well actually it would be in my signiture but it dares to be displayed... nevermind here are all of them:
micro-d.deviantart.com/gallery/#AVS

(rad-ON is the newest one)

14th March 2008 07:37 UTC

i think you'd be right, btw im out for this imo ^^

15th March 2008 06:02 UTC

pretty sweet stuff micro!
puts a lot of my stuff to shame

Thanks alot!:)

15th March 2008 17:55 UTC

hey micro! cool to see you here

you said you have 2 presets and one remix, right?
I think you missunderstood one thing a little. The wfc-"system" works as following:

every participant sends 2 preset to the wfc-god (this time it's Jheriko). maybe it's up to 4 presets this time - the page before someone said he'd sent 4 - don't know.

After the time is over (april i think - it's also the page before  ) the wfc-god will send to every participant presets from another one. So everyone gets a presets he has never seen before and remixes it - or not - no problem.

tada lala
- Lukas

16th March 2008 16:36 UTC

Whoa thanks hurricane i haven't known that yet. Okaaay then i think i'll hurry up a bit XD (i thought it has just a simple "send some preset in" like system  )

19th March 2008 14:29 UTC

Of course join... the more the merrier.

Feel free to send 100, I will filter the crap and choose the best etc... according to my /perfect/ standards. :p

19th March 2008 18:13 UTC

@jheriko
i will have to resend my presets - i forgot to add comments within them.

21st March 2008 14:41 UTC

j- how many presets have been sent in? it's almost april and i can't wait to see how this compilation turns out, but from what i gather from this thread it looks like a pretty small turnout. a lot of the biggies are nowhere to be seen.

21st March 2008 19:45 UTC

I think i'm here back after i dont know how many months(years maybe?)....

I need to do a little warm-up though before i can make something worthwhile(as if i did make anything worthwhile before :p ).
I'm totally out-of-touch...
"Duh! whats a superscope?" :D

I hope i'm in time for WFC8 though... I'll make some crap(which jheriko will filter out entirely, "according to his /perfect/ standards" ;) )
Anyway, Good luck with WFC7! I'll be waiting for it!

(I dont even remember which was the last WFC i took part in... Anybody?)

22nd March 2008 13:51 UTC

1 and 2

it's good to have you back!
there's still a few weeks i imagine, i'm sure you could whip up something

23rd March 2008 11:57 UTC

presets sent
my two are sent.

29th March 2008 17:23 UTC

are there any new presets that came in ?
seems very small right now...

31st March 2008 11:38 UTC

There are quite a few now, but plenty of time for more... well... a few weeks.

Feel free to send more in... :)

31st March 2008 12:10 UTC

funny.
it seems we are one person short this time.
what happened to J-avs
his work next to Nudges i always did my best remixes on.
hmph.
lol
oh well. i'll miss his work but at last we haves Nudge this time lo. now i can be real creative depending on what this dual rotation thing looks like =^_^=
lol
hey jheriko my presets make it ok.

31st March 2008 14:44 UTC

nankiwurkz; my dual rotation idea is still just an idea because i suck at the maths required and i have a feeling it'd be next to impossible to do without megabuf, which i have very little knowledge of. however, i'd made sure to send in 2 okay-ish presets and 2 that should raise my standard a little.

31st March 2008 19:55 UTC

nudge. elaborate on your idea

its possible to crush n rotations down to 3 dot products per frame using change of basis, as long as they all have the same centre of rotation...

if you are planning a 3d flow it can be done... also warn me ;)

1st April 2008 08:55 UTC

i was planning on making a rubix cube. with rotation for the whole cube and then the various sides rotating as well. with all the right colours too.

1st April 2008 09:15 UTC

I would love to see something like that.
wooot.
dang i've entered into preset block
gahhhhh
now all i haves are my two presets i sent
wahhh
lol.
curse my inferior brain.

If you need any help give me a shout or come into #avs. Certainly, this is not a hard problem from my perspective... so I am sure I can help you get over the hurdles if needs be.

Very cool idea. I'm tempted to steal it... :p

2nd April 2008 03:30 UTC

feel free.. i doubt i'll ever finish it.
i'll email you what i've got with info and such.

2nd April 2008 21:26 UTC

What would be realy cool is if a rubix cube would scramble itself for a like 30 seconds based on the music playing, and then either solve itself, or do a high speed rewind.

2nd April 2008 22:11 UTC

as a matter of fact that would be quite cool.
or even better
keep the auto solve and scramble but put in interactivity where you have 30 seconds to solve it or the music resets it.

that would make quite the fun little preset. you can watch or play what ever you prefer, and i know this would take some serious coding but i'm sure it can be done using the ol avstrans ape.
XD

3rd April 2008 11:59 UTC

There aren't too many presets yet.. but enough to make the pack if needed. I'd like to extend the deadline and give everyone a bit more time... however if nobody else will join we might as well start remixing.

Let me know what you think...

I of course will be contributing a couple of tech heavy presets. Because there is quite a good variety of skill levels here it might be nicer to do some really collaborative remixing... I much prefer collabs to remixes... but I know that it is just my opinion... by interacting more heavily during the process you can explain to others how something they want to change works... or even change it for them because you are familiar with the preset etc... although that sounds most handy for code, its probably more useful for all the hacky effects out there. :)

Let me know anyways...

3rd April 2008 12:31 UTC

stick with tradition for now m8.
i like your idea.
but remixing has always worked and as you just said theres not that many presets.
lets wait for WFC 8 and see how that comes out.
speaking of which any word on whos doing the intro this time?.

3rd April 2008 12:52 UTC

3rd April 2008 18:36 UTC

double poster.
gahh the spam it burns us.

4th April 2008 00:50 UTC

spam burns in can form too!

4th April 2008 02:29 UTC

*throws spam at Nudhe
mwuhahahah burn baby burn!!!!
mwuhahahahaa.

4th April 2008 11:47 UTC

hmm stoopid web cache...

but remixing has always worked and as you just said theres not that many presets.
I disagree, I think remixes have bloated all the previous packs out and that many are only marginally different from the originals... something which stems from the difficulty of messing with someone elses code in my experience. Not that all the remixes are crap, but a pack where there are as many, or more remixes than originals can be irritating...

EDIT: I am doing the intro btw, clearly... no offense guys. I was planning on a 3d model and dynamic lighting extravaganza. Intros are particularly amenable to huge piles of tech. :)

4th April 2008 11:51 UTC

hmm
thats true to jheriko but remixes is always been what WFC was about.
it would be hard to leave them out.
but i suggest this time you let the people choose if they want to remix or not.
lol
that might help.
seeing as theres only a handful this time.
maybe if we had like 10 artists then the remixes could start flying.
lol.

4th April 2008 15:50 UTC

sounds all fancy in my pantsy.
i would love to see remixes still, but maybe only one remix for every 2 originals. we'd remix both, but leave it up to J which one made it into the pack based on quality.

7th April 2008 22:29 UTC

not that you start without me, will ya!?
deadline's tomorrow - i'm coding...

8th April 2008 11:49 UTC

@gc
- would be funny if i got to remix one of your presets ;)

8th April 2008 13:03 UTC

deadline is tomorrow???

I thought it was 30th... and I'm organising it(!)

I'm happy to wait for anyone within reason... if it drags through may into june though I will push for release.

8th April 2008 19:50 UTC

it was 30th of... march? april?

i just found this here:

did you change it in between?

grandchild

9th April 2008 00:50 UTC

by 08 i meant 2008, and the end of april rather than a date

sorry for the confusion

9th April 2008 06:16 UTC

who else are we waiting for?
i'm getting all excited.

9th April 2008 13:39 UTC

ah! :D
no worries, that's just as fine. then i'll have some more time for AVSing

10th April 2008 13:37 UTC

no one really... i have presets from most who said they would be in now...

some more are always welcome, and if someone else wants in at this late stage it shouldn't be a problem either...

15th April 2008 02:29 UTC

Well I sent 2 presets (sorry for late submission) i hope they will be good
(i working on one more but that's not 100%)

21st April 2008 14:47 UTC

this is totally not a bump post.

i'm getting excited now!

21st April 2008 23:25 UTC

what do you mean with bump post? (i'm sorry i think i'm just too tired to be fast enough for anything)
(third of my presets is sent)

22nd April 2008 05:06 UTC

just trying to start conversation again before this thread falls off page 1

22nd April 2008 12:10 UTC

Well maybe it'll come alive around 30th april or when the remixing will be began i dunno.:p

24th April 2008 16:56 UTC

sorry guys, i've been awol a bit recently. between internet problems and social life i haven't checked my e-mail in a couple of weeks.

I will start putting the thing together tonight. I think I'll wait for 30th before starting the remixing off... just so any late people can get their stuff in on time. :)

I'd like to do a full collab with someone too if possible... imo they are usually the presets that stand out above the rest. I have quite a few "half a preset"s that can be used...

25th April 2008 03:32 UTC

i'm up for a collab. did you get that rubixcube thing i sent?
hot damn i can't wait.

27th April 2008 17:28 UTC

how long how long ...
can't wait!

@jheriko
If you read this please remove one of the presets, i send you.
i want to put "simple 3d #4 new __ the dream i tried to catch.avs" in a pack later. - Or at least i want just my two presets in the wfc7 pack. The others are much easier to remix i think.
thanks!

30th April 2008 17:02 UTC

today.

sorry i had you guys waiting... i'll send them to J this evening!

30th April 2008 22:52 UTC

ok sent mine
no code-outfreakages from me this time :p

1st May 2008 07:36 UTC

it's may! now what?!
i dont think i've ever been so excited about an avs release before

1st May 2008 12:31 UTC

What will be the deadline of remixing? Because i won't be here from 3rd to 10th of may:rolleyes:

1st May 2008 14:21 UTC

micro.D, it's likely to be at least a month or more, at least it was the last times...

4th May 2008 14:48 UTC

where's J?

4th May 2008 16:34 UTC

hmm i seem to have not got (or misplaced) some of the e-mails

can grandchild resend plz? then i will send out the presets ready for remixing :)

sorry for the delay... :P

edit:jheriko@gmail.com

also, hurricane, i have removed preset as requested.

6th May 2008 08:43 UTC

thanks j!
It'll fit better later.

6th May 2008 19:29 UTC

yup... no probs

just need those final presets and we can start remixing now...

i'd like to see all of them together before dishing them out... but if you guys think we should get started already i can send some out early.

6th May 2008 19:40 UTC

resent.

7th May 2008 14:45 UTC

Yay \o/

I should be able to pick them up when I get home and send them all out... sorry for the delay... I got distracted by OpenTTD and #avs last night. :)

7th May 2008 21:19 UTC

all sent now :)

btw, i think its okkay if anyone wants to swap any presets with each other etc... the number of presets is 3 mod 6 so 3 people got 3... feel free to redistribute if you feel the need

deadline is ... erm... lets say end of june to give micro d plenty of time for his. :)

7th May 2008 22:01 UTC

wow
one preset is really cool!
micro d - respect!

8th May 2008 08:41 UTC

weee
i have only 4 requests on remixing pleasures
Jheriko and Mr.Nudge, Grandchild and Micro-D
weeee
its been so long.
but i can finally have some fun
be sure to send all presets to charpoketron@yahoo dot com
lol
see you all soon.

8th May 2008 22:29 UTC

i already sent them out, did you not get them?

should i send out some more so that each preset is given to at least two people? or too much? i am weary of this becoming too remix heavy...

9th May 2008 00:10 UTC

do what you want, your the master chief.
(but normally every preset was given to 2 people i think.)

but doesn't matter..

13th May 2008 16:50 UTC

thats fine. tbh i never paid much attention to the remixing before. sorry guys. i'll send some more out a bit later...

sorry i haven't been around much. just been really busy...

21st May 2008 12:19 UTC

sorry guys, my perpetually failing internet and my busy hectic life have taken up the time and I haven't sent anything more out yet... I'll try to get it sorted tonight. :)

21st May 2008 15:08 UTC

hey j, do you have some presets in this pack?

22nd May 2008 15:12 UTC

mr_nudge: he does. i got one :)

29th May 2008 14:20 UTC

sorry guys. i've been offline loads recently... i'm not gonna make any promises to do anything when i get home this time!

i really wanted to do some collabs... i have a couple of model presets ready but i have two problems. one of which grandchild may have noticed already... which is that i need to take the time to set up xp again if I want to see my presets with correct "gettime" code, so atm all my "time independent" code is almost complete guesswork. second is that my internet is going up and down like a yo-yo.

i'll try my best though... :)

29th May 2008 18:07 UTC

i'd be up for a one-off collab, jheriko. would be my only way to contribute to the pack, and i hope was a good enough for the last volumes.

4th June 2008 16:51 UTC

i will try and get in touch with all who are interested in a collab once my home internet is back...

sorry for the inconvenience.

7th June 2008 02:26 UTC

My 2 mixes (Mr_nudge and Grandchild) are sent.

7th June 2008 03:36 UTC

sorry to disappoint but looks like i'm going to be without my contributions on the remixes.
as with jheriko my system is acting up more worse then usual and i can't activate avs without causing a system wide crash.

sorry guys.
i hope someone does something awesome with my stuff
lol
:P

11th June 2008 12:40 UTC

i am still having trouble with my internets... unfortunately and the deadline is rolling ever nearer...

can we extend the deadline if needed?

i will try to work out some better solution... unfortunately the computers i have access too are rather limited. :/

either that or someone can take my place as the central point for all the presets to be sent...

11th June 2008 17:14 UTC

if you would like I'll take the presets for the moment for you jheriko

my system may have problems with avs but it runs normally now.

I can still use internet
lol.
charpoketron at yahoo dot com

11th June 2008 22:47 UTC

so i guess i should resend the mixes to nanakiwurkz's address?

11th June 2008 23:53 UTC

no
send them to jheriko and he will send them to me if he wants to.
i was only submitting myself if that need arises.
lol
but if you want i need some remix material so send a copy or two my way please.

12th June 2008 01:39 UTC

lol You said that avs make your system equal to crap, didn't you?;):P Nevermind i'll send one of my originals:D If you send me one of yours!XD (nothing's free:D)
nicknamemd@gmail.com

12th June 2008 03:58 UTC

how many remixes are we to send in? i recieved 3 originals and have completed remixing 2, working on a thrid.
should i send all three in or just 2?
i'm asking because all the previous WFC's it was 2 originals and 2 remixes.

12th June 2008 05:04 UTC

its pretty much how many you want and jheriko will filter them out.

12th June 2008 16:52 UTC

i think it should be 2 remixes only, select the best yourself or have the compiler-person selct two of them...

i could be the one to compile it if j is unavailable. i'd happily do that :) deadline in my book is end of june, correct? extensions would be fine with me, since uni is cracking down on me :p

16th June 2008 13:20 UTC

sending my remixes in!

16th June 2008 13:46 UTC

i will hold off till it gets nearer the deadline... hopefully my problems will be fixed by then.

Thanks to all who have submitted so far.

26th June 2008 14:04 UTC

Any news?
(like "we are alive yet and the life cannot be happier" or "will the pack be released in few days/weeks/months?")

2nd July 2008 13:39 UTC

i have to admit that i have done no avs work for the wfc7 in the recent weeks, and i will try to do that this weekend. (the first one in some weeks that i am home :P)
university is really keeping me busy and since it's so math-heavy i have little inclanation to fiddle with code and functions for hours on end... i'll be more active on the scene in august/september when i have vacation.

but i'll do sth this weekend, so if you could hold on a little longer, i'm sorry :(

grandchild

5th July 2008 00:43 UTC

I resent my remixes because i had few little changes that i made on them. I wish everybody nice (or easier) summer.

7th July 2008 00:34 UTC

jheriko, send the pack out anytime now it doesn't matter...
(remixing presets that contain just render-effects is hard and tedious)

7th July 2008 12:26 UTC

yeah. i have been ill lately and also work internets have even been sketchy.

still can't connect at home, but hopefully getting sorted out this week.... fingers crossed.

if anyone wants to take over thats fine with me... sorry about the total failure on my end. i had all the best of intentions but it seems that the fates have conspired against me. :(

7th July 2008 18:47 UTC

send them to me. i sent you an e-mail...

9th July 2008 09:14 UTC

hard without an internet connection. :P

luckily my internet is being fixed today... so hopefully it will all be working when I get home and this will be a non-issue.

11th July 2008 12:42 UTC

All fixed now. I will put everything together this weekend... prolly sunday as I am out all day on saturday...

Hopefully nothing will go wrong in the meantime.

Sorry for the delay to all.

15th July 2008 12:50 UTC

downloaded some of the presets last night. dunno if i have all yet... but was too tired. gonna put together the installer tonight. :)

finally, eh?

15th July 2008 18:02 UTC

fucken w00t!

15th July 2008 19:27 UTC

yeah, yeah.. and then the internet is down again ;)

16th July 2008 09:01 UTC

i'll say a week before we see a download link

17th July 2008 09:56 UTC

"some of the presets"... oh my

actually i'm pretty excited for it to come! grr

17th July 2008 20:24 UTC

sorry

anyway i have the remixes but there aren't very many... did everyone send them to me yet?

i only have the ones from micro d and mr nudge...

18th July 2008 13:15 UTC

hurricane and me didn't send any, so don't wait for us... :/

21st July 2008 13:42 UTC

i'm going to assume this is it then... nevermind, eh?

at least this pack won't be saturated with remixes.

21st July 2008 15:33 UTC

lets see an installer already!

22nd July 2008 13:42 UTC

i am with my gf tonight... but if i get time after i will pimpbot it and get it up on deviantart and submitted to winamp. otherwise it will be there tomorrow when i get home from work. :)

this pack is going to be pretty awesome.

24th July 2008 02:55 UTC

easy now

24th July 2008 06:06 UTC

hot damn. i'm quite impressed with microD and Nwurkz stuff amongst everyone else. great work! would have been nice to have more people take part though.

lol, he was right.

My faves:
Jheriko - Intro
Micro D - Blockfucker

Great work, everybody.

24th July 2008 18:36 UTC

not as great as past releases, but microD's stuff is outstanding! i hope his own upcoming releases will match that quality!

I was most impressed with your stuff Nudge. even tho 3 of them were from Nudge V_10 as re-works.

lol
like i care tho.
your re-works are so far different each time they are virtually new presets
lol.

and the fact you said my stuff was impressive just made my day.
D.N.A was prolly the most hardest and single most worked on preset i ever did.
try 3 months of tinkering.
mostly due to me not picking up avs for a month and the rest for lazyness. i had to relearn everything using my presets.

also i say this.
woooooooooooooooooooooooot!!!
Jheriko i love yer winamp icon it is so beautiful.
now i feel like trashing it with remix galore
lol.
ok maybe i'll kill the starfield and add some of my usual pizaz.

27th July 2008 09:53 UTC

lol
ok ok its not much better then Jheriko's original.
but at least its cool looking
Jheriko please don't kill me.

It paid off... its one of the best presets I've seen for a while... way beyond the standard that I was expecting from you to be honest.

I'll check the remix later. The starfield was there so that an easy remix could have been made by changing it to something good, so I probably won't be doing any killing today...

let me guess.
it brought back memories of your long lost DNA Analysis presets for the days of old.

tell you one thing the triangles thing was a pain in the butt to get to move right seeing as i had to make all the rotation matrices by hand.

1st August 2008 16:51 UTC

don't complain at me about rotation matrices. you won't get sympathy. if you find the actual matrices hard to remember then use the correct, easy to remember form:

c1 = c1*cos(rc3) - c2*sin(rc3);
c2 = c1*sin(rc3) + c2*cos(rc3);

c1,c2 are two of the coordinate axes and rc3 is the rotation about the third axis. remember that you should cycle the coords, e.g. do x,y around z, then do z,x around y, then do y,z around x. if you try doing x,z you will hit a snag.

another tip: if you have a load of identical rotations, rotate the basis vectors then transform. i.e. rotate X = {1,0,0} Y = {0,1,0} and Z = {0,0,1} into components so that the rotating X gives rX = {rXx, rXy, rXz}, Y gives rY = {rYx, rYy, rYz} and rZ = {rZx, rZy, rZz}. You can then convert an x,y,z in the original coordinate system into a new, rotated, x',y',z' based on the new basis vectors:

x' = x*rXx + y*rYx + z*rZx;
y' = x*rXy + y*rYy + z*rZy;
z' = x*rXz + y*rYz + z*rZz;

saves one multiplication per point at the cost of a rotation matrix per frame, and this is for each rotation used. since its possible to combine multiple rotations (but not translations) on frame and recreate the results by using this same method. (rotate X,Y,Z more than once to produce the rX, rY and rZ components).

this can be extended to include translations as well, provided that you store an extra set of components to describe them and you rotate these vectors too.

not sure if this helps, but i'm guessing that this was part of the problem... the great thing about working with basis vectors is that you effectively rotate the whole space at once, rather than each point one at a time, so you can store the basis vectors in registers/megabuf and reuse them as you wish. the result is a little more efficient, and easier to reproduce, than using the 3 2x2 matrices normally used (3 muls less), and although its fractionally less efficient (per frame only) as the 3x3 matrix its a lot easier to remember.

on second thoughts... this is all quite a lot to remember. sorry. :P

*spins around in confusion.
i was complaining.
i had to relearn half of the math stuff i learned in avs so it was sorta hard to do.
that and i had to translate 3 axis of movement in the triangles to a 2D screen not the easiest thing in the world for seeing as i'm not a mathmetical genius as you and UnConed are.

:-P

anyway thanks for the small lesson i'm sure i'll figure it out someday.........*faints from trying to calculate it
X_X

7th August 2008 13:46 UTC

its easier if you don't take the attitude of "i'm not a mathematical genius" use google and copy equations. you don't need to understand them all that much. :)

if you can lose that attitude you are halfway to finding maths easy. you have the capacity for it... your brain solves a relatively complicated mathematical problems several times a second... orders of magnitude more complicated than the kind of crap avs requires. so you do have the capacity for it... most of us all do. :)

for the matrices though just try to remember that it is cos - sin, sin + cos. that saves me looking it up every time

it has other nice properties too, e.g. the first is the negative of the second and vice versa. cos(-x) = -cos(x) = cos(x).

the "correct" circle formula in radial coords is x = cos(r), y = sin(r), lining up with the matrix

if you go round clockwise you get a 90 degree rotation at each "step"

cos(r) - sin(r) = cos(r) + cos(r + 90deg)
sin(r) + cos(r) = cos(r + 270deg) + cos(r + 180deg)

so no actual need to use the sin function ever... its just a notational convenience.

i used to find remembering the rotation matrices hard too. in fact i used to universally despise matrices... but thats another story altogether. (where the hell does that multiply really come from, eh? at least i know now. :))

8th August 2008 20:27 UTC

Good job getting the pack out at last ;)

Nanakiwurkz most of what you are discussing is covered in the programming guide, I recommend you look there for an AVS-centric guide to rotation matrices.

11th August 2008 16:40 UTC

i lied there. cos(-x) = cos(x) and sin(-x) = -sin(x). sorry. :)

12th August 2008 06:23 UTC

i was wondering whether i should say anything about that ...

i lied there. cos(-x) = cos(x) and sin(-x) = -sin(x).
lol quotethed the :D
