Using video as visual
I am new to this, and would like to know, is there any way to convert a video file to a visual? I have a couple of video clips of my wife and kids dancing, and would like to set them up as visuals for winamp. Is this possible? I don't have much experiance with programing, nor do I have lots of fancy expensive programs for editing. Is there a cheap easy way to do this? I appreciate any help.

How did you imagine this? I mean.. how would that video clip respond to sound?
Anyway I don't think AVS is really capable of doing this.. It kinda supports (very short) .avi files, but I'd really not recommend it.
all in all: I don't think you can

What I do at the moment is run the video in Real Player with music from Winamp. No, the kids don't really dance in step with the music, but they're kids so they don't anyway:) I have seen this done for real player and Media player, but have no personal idea how to transform the files. i would really like to know if there is a way, but in the mean time, I guess I will continue running both for my visuals.

It might be possible to play the video beat-responsive. So that the movie proceeds for a few seconds or frames everytime there is a beat and otherwise stands still. But i don't think that this is what you want, isn't it? ;)

^..^ He just said that he isn't a programmer. I don't think that you're able to create that, so how would he be able to?
Well, no media player that I know of is able to play more than one file at the same time, so your idea to set it up as visualization isn't that bad.. I just don't think it's a realistic idea. Besides, you'd also lose the audio.
I'm not a big *cough*understatement* fan of RealPlayer myself, but I think that you indeed need another player for that video file.
If you want to save resources for playing that video file, try the classic media player. I'd recommend that as second best media player (next to winamp of course, that's why i'm here)

As you guessed wotl, i was thinking about a render/avi with a coded effect list. Though that is a quite simple AVS solution you lose the sound...
So: ok, i admit, bad idea... :hang:

My win media is fried :) I found out that if you play the same song on repeat more than 4 hours, it tends to screw up the player beyond fixing, even with uninstalling and reinstalling, that's why I use real as a secondary :)

note that I was talking about the >classic< media player, not the normal one.

Actually doing this with AVS would be quite easy (but it will be difficult if you have never opened the AVS editor).
I've attached an APE needed to do it.
1. Place the video file you want to show and the attached (unzipped) file in your winamp\Plugins\avs\ folder (usually c:\program files\winamp\plugins\avs).
2. Click the AVS window and hit r to turn off random presets.
3. Create a new preset in the AVS editor.
4. Add the component called "virtual effect/avi player".
5. In the drop down menu of the component select your video file.
6. (optional) There are some setting for the component that could let you make the video responsive.
You should however notice that it probably only works with .avi files (and not .mpg)
I realise that this might seem quite difficult if you don't have any experience with AVS. If you can't make it work, I could make the preset for you, you would still have to place the preset and the video file in the AVS folder though, and I'll need to know the filename of the file as well.

well I tried the vfxaviplayer, and my short movie was going very slowly, don't know why. Yes, I moved the slider speed to maximum
I have a comp. 800 Mhz duron and GEforce mx400/400 32 Mb (Maybe this is the problem) :)
Then I used the original rander/AVI, and my movie was going well.
And with a few effect the AVS with the movie was quite well.
If you would like to see it, I can post it here.
