SSC metaballs
I´m totally nOOb with dM ,so i made an metaball-preset
based on a superscope.Not style optmized , it´s only a techdemo.

I´m waiting for feedback

13th April 2005 20:35 UTC

It's a decent scope, but not exactly metaballistic. It's a good idea, though, if you're looking to cut back on the moving particles. ;)

13th April 2005 20:36 UTC

hey that's a nice one! And what a coincidence: I've been working on the same idea, but decided to use texerII cause it looks a bit better. Unfortunately, mine is also an 'intermediate stage' preset (=unfinihsed).

But have a look yourself:

13th April 2005 21:45 UTC

...

Guess what i've made for the next forum compilation?

13th April 2005 21:54 UTC

you're kidding, aren't you?

13th April 2005 21:57 UTC

Nope.

I guess I have to make something else now. Luckily i think i have an idea for a preset.

Here have a see at my version.

13th April 2005 22:10 UTC

no no, you should keep it for the pack! Perhaps you could invert it?!
however.. remove the attachment as long as no one has seen it (i promise not to tell anybody!)

13th April 2005 23:00 UTC

I can't delete it anymore :/

I'll make something new, this preset was more of a stupid "techdemo" anyway... Err not that i mean that the idea is bad or that your presets are bad, but... uhm... well... you know. ;)

13th April 2005 23:05 UTC

:)

ASD5A: nice concept

13th April 2005 23:07 UTC

yeah you're right tug, mine also started as a techdemo. It's kind of hard to turn it into something artistic afterwards...

14th April 2005 12:43 UTC

i understand the critique on the partikle movement,
perhaps i should combine this techdemo with the unreleased gravsim engine.
here is something that can´t be done with a dm.

14th April 2005 16:16 UTC

Its sad what passes for a tech demo these days

14th April 2005 16:47 UTC

Well excuse us oh high one! The 1337357 of them all 13375! May I kiss your f337?

Different people have different views on what's high on code and what's not. So for me making a texer II grid with using megabuf and then using more megabuf to code the blobs into the grid by merely "changing the colors"... well that does sort of strike me as a "techdemo" maybe it's not up to your extremely high standards, but for me done it for the first time it was pretty fucking awesome.

And no, im not really going to kiss your feet.

15th April 2005 03:47 UTC

 I thought it was pretty fucking sweet, too, Tugg.

15th April 2005 21:21 UTC

strange:
the one that bitches most in this forum forgot to hit the "kick asd5a´s ass" button.

16th April 2005 01:23 UTC

I thought tug's preset was pretty nifty. I toyed with it a bit:

16th April 2005 09:49 UTC

Ooh, smooth... *drool*

Nice tweaking coned :D

16th April 2005 10:58 UTC

hey, that's cool!
nice work! :)

16th April 2005 15:21 UTC

A colorlevel experiment, I noticed that an all-white additive Unique Tone didn't give an all white preset, which I did expect.
TomyLobo explained me at #FF, but guess what the experiments look like:

yup.

Well, sorry Tugg, I didnt mean to dump on your quote unquote tech demo...

But, just to prove how trivial this is, I went home and set myself a three hour time limit to make a better version of the same idea, and here it is.

Featuring a non-RGB colour scheme, easily changed width, height and number of blobs and its all packed into a single Render/Triangle. I even wrote it in super ugly AVS loop code so you dont need AVSTrans.

(Requires triangle.ape)

18th April 2005 18:16 UTC

another sign that dm-metaballs are going dowm .
well done pak-9

18th April 2005 18:19 UTC

I dont think DM metablobs are going down really, ssc/triangle/texer2 metablobs invariably have a lower resolution than a DM and are usually slower as well. Not to mention they are significantly more complicated to code.

Personally I think metablobs make for pretty boring presets, unless they are done exceptionally well.

18th April 2005 20:36 UTC

cool one pak!

but in contrary to your opinion i find that texerII-metablob-presets have got the advantage to choose different textures for the blob. Of course my example is not that great, but with texerII you're able to create a different style of metablobs.

19th April 2005 01:58 UTC

I want to see fast volumetric gas type metablobs :P

19th April 2005 03:27 UTC

Btw, change the texer2 frame code at the top to:
sizex=(w/280)*0.5*1.25 ; sizey=(h/280)*0.5*1.25;

Result: nifty almost-correct bilinear filtered plasma with just one texer.

(yes, I know it's slower than grid SSC + Movement)

19th April 2005 12:41 UTC

Here's a ssc/movement version of my preset, this way you can optionally enable bilinear filtering in the movement. I added comments into the code in case anyone want to read it too.

I dont really think texer2 versions of the idea look as good, yes you can change the image however if its not rectangular your just adding holes. Plus rendering a bitmap is slower than rendering points/lines/triangles(triangles are perhaps debatable)

19th April 2005 22:10 UTC

for some reason metaballs 3d and tenticles 3d crashes winamp for me O.o

meh

crappy lappy >.<

20th April 2005 06:06 UTC

i might need to replace the metablobs in j10 with something better :/

There! Problem solved! :p

20th April 2005 14:10 UTC

just so you know how out of date you all are here is something i made months ago for j10, it was the prelude to the bump 3d and sphere demo 'per-pixel' presets

20th April 2005 14:23 UTC

I'm still waiting for Tugg to admit that this sort of thing isnt a tech demo and kiss my f337.

20th April 2005 14:37 UTC

Get ready for one long ass wait...

20th April 2005 16:33 UTC

lasts at least as long as pak's cynism

22nd April 2005 12:45 UTC

cynicism.

the german word zynismus is derived from the english cynicism i think... like a lot of german words with y in.

22nd April 2005 13:15 UTC

cynic
c.1550s, from Gk. kynikos, lit. "dog-like," from kyon (gen. kynos) "dog." Supposedly from the sneering sarcasm of the philosophers, but more likely from Kynosarge "Grey Dog," name of the gymnasium in ancient Athens where the founder, Antisthenes (a pupil of Socrates), taught. Diogenes was the most famous. Popular association even in ancient times was "dog-like." For nuances of usage of cynicism, see humor.

22nd April 2005 13:21 UTC

you learn something new everyday.

22nd April 2005 16:12 UTC

Though around the AVS forums it's never actually about AVS what you learn :D

22nd April 2005 16:13 UTC

thats rather cynical...

22nd April 2005 16:16 UTC

I thought i was being comical.

22nd April 2005 16:18 UTC

It was both. Say, why am I not on #finnish-flash?

22nd April 2005 16:22 UTC

I was wondering about that myself too, but i just thought you didn't like me anymore :(

22nd April 2005 16:45 UTC

No one likes you Tugg, get used to it.

Now kiss my feet.

23rd April 2005 15:54 UTC

no, tug, you are moronical, not comical ;)

... and ucd is conical (ha-ha)

24th April 2005 14:53 UTC

i think by definition UnConeD is non-conical :P

24th April 2005 19:49 UTC

and you are chronical

24th April 2005 22:37 UTC

and i'm just a pastry.

25th April 2005 13:49 UTC

Don't be so phonical

25th April 2005 16:09 UTC

Err.. is this going anywhere?

25th April 2005 16:34 UTC

i guess this is not getting to an end untill you lock it ;)

25th April 2005 18:04 UTC

Getting offtopic around here is rather typical.

6th October 2005 19:15 UTC

now back to the top(ic).

another thing that a DM doesn't allow you is different shapes to "meta around" with.

see my try:

8th October 2005 11:22 UTC

nice, it just needs some colors :)

8th October 2005 12:22 UTC

But isn't triangle-meta-things just as possible with a dm? Not that i know how to do it or anything, and i bet it's pretty hard too, but impossible? I think not :)

Nice work though, i don't know if that line look is intentional or not, but i think it would look better with more solid shapes.

8th October 2005 14:14 UTC

@ Tomy Lobo: it says "destyled" with which I wanted to express that I took away all the fancy bg and color stuff.
I didn't make it all to clear ;)

@ Tuggummi: it's possible, ok. but I think it wont look this good [esp. the triangle or the 45°-square] because of the grid. dunno, though.
[line look is intentional, give it a high res!]

14th October 2005 17:48 UTC

/is still waiting to have his feet kissed

15th October 2005 20:45 UTC

Have you considered adopting a puppy?
