Community pack
Is this a good idea? how? what? when? will there be unending discussions about who will create it?

this is the place to discuss it

20th January 2005 21:32 UTC

That was quick WotL! ;)

As i said in that other thread, i'd like to participate in such a pack! Altough i haven't much time at the moment (like so often :() i'll try to bring in a preset, as long as you don't plan to release it during the next week!

If there are others interested in such a pack, then what about a theme for this pack?

My ideas to avoid discussion about the "compilator":
1.) Let WotL do it, if he wants, cause he had the idea at first.. or:
2.) Let's vote in another poll between all those who have time and/or are interested...

21st January 2005 00:15 UTC

You can make one if you want, but I can't help right now, so I say no.

We already have a community pack, its called community picks and Nullsoft didnt give a flying funk about it. As for another one, sure there is no harm, but I dont know what kind of support you'll get, after all not that many artists come to the forums.

I don't intend to re-do the ComPicks, thats was a selection of already created presets.

Neither is it my inention to include it in WA, but more just a pack we do together.
And since it's called community pack, those who don't frequent WA.com anymore don't need to be included if they don't feel a part of the wa.com community (not at all saying they're not a part of the AVS community of course) don't have to participate.

I'd like it to be a pack with new presets just from those who frequent here, long-timers and newbs. The idea is to have fun with eachother, no matter the quality of the presets so newbs can come in as well, if they have something that's worth sharing.

overall stated, a pack that says "This is us"

23rd January 2005 15:40 UTC

That's the way i interpreted it too. We should give this project a different name, to avoid confusion.
What about calling it FORUM PACK for the time being? When the project is finished, we could choose a proper name.

24th January 2005 18:19 UTC

No offense but I think the overall quality of the pack will be pretty low... mainly because most of you guys are stinking noobs! you make me sick you damn NOOOBS! I mean really, your going to need at least a 30% non-noob turnout or the pack will stink.

I'm not trying to sink the idea, but be pragmatic.

24th January 2005 21:19 UTC

you're such a mean guy, pak!!
And we don't stink, we've just not enough time to wash ourselfs!
//runs away crying

Joking apart, what is wrong about having a bit fun making presets? Do you fear that the community here on WA.com loses credit? Or are you just saying that you personally wouldn't be intrested in the pack, in case there are less than 30% high quality presets?

Nevertheless it wouldn't be bad to keep a minimum level. We could achieve that with a theme-pack for example.
...although i don't think that anyone who posted above is a noob. (provided that we understand the same by "noob")

25th January 2005 11:26 UTC

who would be classed as a noob around here pak? i'm sure that any of the really new people wouldn't bother submiting something becuase they would understand that they can't make high quality presets yet. i think the biggest problem with this pack will be the lack of submitions, not the quality.

25th January 2005 20:31 UTC

let's just start and try to make this pack. We'll see how good or bad / extensive or scanty it becomes.
Untill now we were only discussing formalities. it's time for some decissions, isn't it?

27th January 2005 07:29 UTC

i like pak-9's honesty... 3 bad presets = bad pack... (unless 20+)i will submit :D:p

27th January 2005 15:06 UTC

then we would have 4 bad presets...

27th January 2005 17:14 UTC

Okay I guess I'm in, as long as I can make the intro.

27th January 2005 17:42 UTC

nice to have you with us in the end!
Well, as far as I'm concerned you can make the intro, cause yours mostly turn out to be quite good.

Now what kind of presets do we want to have? Shall we make a new one for the pack? If so, wouldn't it be good to have something like a theme or so?
Or shall we just compile a favourite of our own presets?

27th January 2005 22:13 UTC

new presets of course!

how about that for a theme? anyone else, suggestions?

27th January 2005 22:44 UTC

i see, but to me it is a bit too general. My idea was to have a pack with a more unified appearance, where all presets tend towards a same direction.
We choose a keyword/topic/theme... and our presets have to deal with it... (hope now you know what i meant?!?)

But it's also just a suggestion...

28th January 2005 15:58 UTC

I suggest llamas. You know, they are Winamp's mascot.

29th January 2005 03:00 UTC

there's only so much you can do with llama presets, we should go for a less definitive word.

29th January 2005 12:16 UTC

yeah i also think so. "Llama" is a bit too special.
Hmm.. It turns out to be more difficult than i thought to find a proper idea...

/looks around in room
/sees some empty batteries lying around on desk
...
/5 minutes later:
What about "energized"?

29th January 2005 18:15 UTC

good theme for presets, but how does that represent us?

30th January 2005 00:49 UTC

well, we are full of enrgy to make new unseen and extraordinary presets!! Aren't we?

Well it was just an idea... and a quick one too...

As i said it's realy hard to find a good theme. Perhaps we should just compile some presets that represent our styles (provided that we have one ;) )..

30th January 2005 11:00 UTC

why don't we just all make a preset or 2 and compile them, no theme, no trouble.

30th January 2005 12:21 UTC

of course we don't have to to search for a theme. (Especially not, when we don't have a good idea...) The whole thing was just an suggestion, to have a clue what to make...

Then, who will manage the presets and compile them?

30th January 2005 16:46 UTC

I don't mind the compiling part..

But it's another thing that I'm concerned about:

^..^
Mysterious W
MaTTFURY
Mr Nudge
Pak-9
WotL

Those are the people who said to participate..
Are there really only 6 active AVS'ers around here?!

I agree on dumping the theme for the presets since noone has a really good one indeed.
So: 2 presets per person, in you own style then, with PAK building the intro?

30th January 2005 16:47 UTC

A theme that defines us...hmm, how about "Stinkin noobs", no no wait "noobs Vs Good Artists", no no, "The noobs shall inherit the earth" hehehe

Is there any sort of vetting process for the pack? I mean, yunno.. a minimum level of quality required? Or a max number per submitter. And whats the minimum nuber of different submitters we can have to make up the pack? I suggest at least 6 different people to make it worth it.

31st January 2005 16:08 UTC

What if you name it: "This pack sucks, because Tugg isn't in it."

Or as a extra choice: "This pack sucks, because it has PAK-9 innit."

Just a suggestion :P

31st January 2005 16:23 UTC

yeah! those are much better than paks lame ideas!
especially the second one :p

31st January 2005 17:55 UTC

"This pack sucks, except it has PAK-9 innit... innit"

31st January 2005 18:28 UTC

"This pack sucks, because of PAK's smelly socks!"

31st January 2005 19:45 UTC

yay Tugg vs. Pakkie :D

31st January 2005 20:52 UTC

Provided that tug wants to take part, that'd be indeed a very nice theme ;)

However, WotL: can we send you the presets per email or shall we post them here? I was just wondering, cause if we would mail them it would be a bit more of a surprise when the pack finally is published.

31st January 2005 22:19 UTC

good idea. send them to wotl@warrior-of-the-light.tk if you like..

31st January 2005 22:50 UTC

ok, i'll do so as soon as they're finished ;)

btw what's the deadline? I'd say not too short: a week or two? What do the others say?

31st January 2005 23:30 UTC

Provided that tug wants to take part, that'd be indeed a very nice theme ;)
Provided im willing to remix PAK-9's work... which i wouldn't touch even with a ugly-stick that i've used to beat myself! :P

1st February 2005 17:05 UTC

read a bit better please... we're doing originals, not remixes, so you don't have to touch your monitor with a stick :igor:

deadline: february 28th 23:59 GMT

I'll create a WA&DA account to upload it all too

1st February 2005 17:14 UTC

aaah!! like that deadline: semester is over then. much time to make up postponed things... (like unfinished presets or maybe a pack??)

Well geee-e! Silly me for thinking that this ment remixing!

I humbly apologize oh divinest of the divine WotL!

2nd February 2005 07:46 UTC

i diddn't mean you want to remix :)

2nd February 2005 10:51 UTC

nevertheles you're all welcome to participate! So if you would like?

2nd February 2005 18:15 UTC

I think "Tugg vs. Pak" (we'll drop the 'kie' shall we) would be a jammin theme, mainly because I'm in it. ME ME ME. Presets of a hansome man smiting an ugly hate filled man (I'm the hansome one).

PAK: Your ugly stick is no match for my light saber!
Tugg: Nooooo!
FFFWWWWWIING BWWWWIING *CKZZZZ* ZWWWING
Tugg: Help me siddhartha-one, your my only hope!
SFFFFWWWIIIING *CZPPZZZ* *Splatter*
PAK: With Tugg dead, PAK-9 AVS 5 will rule the AVSverse.. There'll be nothing to stop me this time!

/runs off to start new preset

2nd February 2005 19:41 UTC

:D sorry pak for that kie, wasn't meant to do any harm. as for PAK-9 AVS 5...lemme see...now!

2nd February 2005 20:28 UTC

oh dear! pak and tugg: that's true love...

PAK-9, don't be too proud of your coding abilities you've mastered. The ability to ray-trace a freeform 3D road is insignificant next to the power of the Aesthetics!

*Uses force will on PAK-9: "These aren't the n00bs you're looking for." ; "Give your presets to me."*

3rd February 2005 18:40 UTC

These aren't the n00bs I'm looking for

I'll give my presets to yo... eh... hey wait! Your AVS mind tricks won't work on me. You never even finished AVS programming training on Dagobah.

Your powers are weak old man...who is actually, er, younger than me. My aesthetics powers grow with every preset I make, unlike your aesthetics... or judging by your last pack, maybe I should say BLANDsthetics!

3rd February 2005 18:44 UTC

Sorry to double post but I forgot... I need the following in order to make the intro to the pack:

- A definative list of people making presets for the pack
- The name of the pack

4th February 2005 00:50 UTC

Well the reason it looked so bland as you said is because code driven presets really are hard to make look good, even by a aesthetical genius like me.

I actually pity da fools who do code heavy presets. Your presets will always look bland and empty! HaHa!

4th February 2005 03:17 UTC

bland?!?!?!?!

code unheavy presets are bland... thats why we code :P

4th February 2005 10:45 UTC

For the name I'd say we stick with Community Pack unless someone gets a bright idea then let him say it in his first post and I'll select the best one
(you cannot bribe me but I like good beer ;) ).

That next post will also say I for those who're in:
Everybody say "I" :)

I

4th February 2005 17:01 UTC

I
btw do we have to submit two presets to take part or is it just a max limit?

4th February 2005 20:07 UTC

Can I join in... or am I not noob enough?

There is already a commuinty picks pack, but that was the one where people voted for their favorite presets. I think we should choose a different sounding mane so people won't get confused.

5th February 2005 01:25 UTC

erm, isn't this a 'forums community pack' ?

5th February 2005 04:46 UTC

yeah and so was the other one

5th February 2005 05:16 UTC

Definately dude, we need to drag up the overall quality, a preset or two would be much appreciated.

I think 'Forums Community Pack' is a good name but it needs to be qualified by which forum its referring to, i.e. 'Winamp.com AVS Forums Community Pack' or maybe just 'AVS Forums Community Pack' because its a bit shorter

5th February 2005 09:06 UTC

I

5th February 2005 11:12 UTC

approximately 2.. if you want to three, it's okay if you can explain it, if you only want to do one I'm fine with it too. just not more because of the others.

approximately 2 what?
if we can explain what?
i'm confused

5th February 2005 14:04 UTC

I.

I think he's talking bout presets per person:rolleyes:

5th February 2005 15:36 UTC

yes, he actually talked about presets per person, cause i asked him how many presets we can bring in the pack. ;)

btw, what about calling it:

the "GLAWA"-Pack ?

"Guys Lazing Away on Winamp.com's Avs-forum" - Pack

or something like this...

5th February 2005 23:19 UTC

How about...
S uper
A vs
D orks

F orum
U sers
C o-operate
K entucky
S tyle

6th February 2005 01:46 UTC

how about no..

6th February 2005 02:09 UTC

maybe something simple like... "winamp forums compilation one"

6th February 2005 02:12 UTC

What? You have problem with Kentucky? We can change it to Kenya if you want, or perhaps Kazakhstan or...

6th February 2005 04:55 UTC

Am I part of the comunity? I think I am, so I'd go with this idea Can I?

6th February 2005 11:54 UTC

I think i go with Jheriko's idea:)

"Winamp Forums Compilations One"

Simple and nice.

6th February 2005 13:57 UTC

yeah, jheriko's idea is fine for me too. nothing extraordinary, just saying what it is.

Tuggs idea is ..erm nice... too but perhaps a bit too self-ironic... ;)

@PJ:
just say "I" and you're in.. :)

7th February 2005 06:03 UTC

i'm in so - I

7th February 2005 06:52 UTC

"Winamp Forums Compilation One" it is then

And can someone tally up the I's and give me a list of names, I'm too lazy to do it myself

7th February 2005 10:59 UTC

here it goes, lazybones...

latest list of participants (in no particular order):

mr_nudge
ishan
pj_avser
jheriko
wotl
^..^
mysterios_w
mattfury
pak9

...for the time beeing

and in case you forgot it again, the name of the pack is:

Winamp Forums Compilation One

7th February 2005 13:40 UTC

i am in too, having some spare time for a couple of days or weeks :)

7th February 2005 14:02 UTC

um....is the theme decided already?

excuse me for being dumb:rolleyes:

7th February 2005 14:06 UTC

I agree on the name but let's do this in the correct way, ^..^ unless you want a namechange to ^.x^

No theme, just presets that you want the crowd to remember you like.
(personally I'd say one that I really like and one that really represents me)

7th February 2005 14:15 UTC

i am cool with a theme, but also can do any type of preset, just tell what to do :)

7th February 2005 14:18 UTC

cool then. No theme is good. Coz themes always limit the possibilites of AVS. :)

*goes off to work on new presets*

7th February 2005 14:55 UTC

an idea about a theme: make presets that look like moving paintings (or photos or renders, as you like). ones that look like animated pictures that could be hanged on a wall, framed :)

7th February 2005 16:14 UTC

no no "Tugg Vs PAK" :D

7th February 2005 16:27 UTC

that would be indeed good, but tugg "stopped" (bleh), and it wouldn't reflect the community, but only you. or would you two make a preset and everyone would remix it?

7th February 2005 18:15 UTC

I got the impression tugg had tentatively commited a preset or two

7th February 2005 19:14 UTC

me too, but no releases this far. but i may be wrong.

7th February 2005 20:29 UTC

is anybody paying attention here? We're talking about themes here.. having tugg vs pak for a theme's a possibility (i.e. 1 tugg-like one and 1 PAK-9 like one) but that has nothing to do with anybody still releasing presets or not :igor:

7th February 2005 22:03 UTC

so what is there to do? choose a theme, then make the presets, then release them. whats the problem? (btw. happy to know your comp is working, wotl :))

7th February 2005 23:26 UTC

no wotl, i don't want my name changed... sorry :D
i just thought that a simple name like "winamp forums compilation one" would be a good idea cause it seemed as if no real "theme" could be found. im sorry for any rash conclusion/decisions...

so is the theme "tugg vs pak" now, or what? im getting confused.. :igor: but this theme would indeed only be good if tugg took part with a preset or two and if the others would remix/re-do some pak/tugg presets...

i'd prefer if we'd vote about something definitive!?!

8th February 2005 09:31 UTC

there is no theme as far as i can tell.

i just got an idea - along with our presets, we should also remix someone elses, not only will this make more presets in the pack, but the over all look of the pack will be very dfferent.

8th February 2005 11:52 UTC

The "Tugg Vs PAK" theme isn't exactly about the community though.

That's just two persons with equally big EGO's who are constantly bumping heads together, because neither of them is wise enough to give up

8th February 2005 16:08 UTC

yeah, mr_nudge. i like that remixing idea too. But whose preset should we remix? And should everybody deal with the same preset?

I'd suggest that we make a list of a few presets and everybody picks the one he likes to remix (if we decide to add idea to the pack).

8th February 2005 16:38 UTC

I'm not really keen on the remixing idea to be honest, unless everyone does at least one original preset and at most one remix.

I think "Tugg Vs PAK" is an okay theme provided you dont interpret it too literally. For example if you make a preset that is in the style of one of ours then comment on why you like the idea. Or do an asthetic preset and comment on how it matches Tuggs philosophy, or two stick men fighting... etc.. some crap along those lines. Not just 'dur I remixeded this preset'.

Either that or lets just not have a theme and just make presets however the hell you like.

I dunno, I'm feeling a bit tired and self-contradictory at the moment so interpret this post vaguely.

8th February 2005 17:57 UTC

The Pak vs Tugg thing was a joke to begin with, so let's drop it if we're searching for a real theme.
I agree with Tuggummi on that :D

How about everybody releases >one< original in your own style, I make them public on the board only and we remix those again? It seems the logical thing to do after the way this discussion is going now.. I'm only concerned that there will be presets that will be remixed 5 times and others that aren't remixed at all.
How about it if I (randomly) spread those presets under us all? I'll PM you with the artist/preset to remix.
That'll give us some interesting combinations...

8th February 2005 18:11 UTC

that'll be funny! But then we have to close the list of participants! If that is ok?

8th February 2005 19:10 UTC

it has been open for three weeks now... that's okay.
note: the presets must be remixable then.

8th February 2005 20:49 UTC

i'm just wondering: what makes a remixable preset? Maybe it's a dumb question, but i'm not that familiar with remixing...

8th February 2005 21:18 UTC

just look at some random presets.. could you continue with that preset or is it just.. finished

8th February 2005 22:36 UTC

oh it's meant that easy, ok.. Thanks!

/goes off and picks out one of his presets to delete random stuff... ;)

9th February 2005 01:04 UTC

Can this preset be included as a tribute to the PAK vs Tug theme?

I don't think anyone wants to remix it.

9th February 2005 01:11 UTC

the final image:

(will need to save to .bmp)

9th February 2005 01:26 UTC

update to preset... :P

sorry, last one :)

9th February 2005 05:47 UTC

well, the theme is not really decided but i think its a really good preset for it if it will be chosen :)

btw if you uncheck the enabled box in the effect list you gain like 8 fps cause the code override with "enabled" works only then :p

9th February 2005 16:29 UTC

odd.. i turned it on to change the blend mode of the picture. the image didn't update so i assumed the code was still working. it didn't update until i saved and loaded the preset. thanks for pointing that out. the flak is really crappy so i'm going to redo it a bit. the on beat code makes it look crappy when the time slows down.

EDIT: The preset should be included on the grounds of there probably won't be any other 'tech' presets in the pack except for Pak's. Besides that it pwns!

9th February 2005 19:42 UTC

if i do make any tech heavy preset, it will still incluse only superscopes (cannot sync it with DMs atm ;)), and will be trans-loaded anyway :)

10th February 2005 17:15 UTC

Finally found a use for that warzone remix eh J?

*cough*cheap*splutter*

11th February 2005 02:08 UTC

A bit heavy on the effects (hence the name), but when you're retired you can't do such good stuff anymore like you used to :p

11th February 2005 08:36 UTC

that glow is shit hot tugg :D

11th February 2005 10:20 UTC

should we post presets we want to be remixed here ir should we just drop the whole remix idea of mine? Because with only 7-ish people at 2 presets each - thats only *counts on fingers* |||||||||||||| < this many. maybe we should be able to sumit 3 or 4.

11th February 2005 10:59 UTC

Well, in case i haven't miscount we are even 10 people contributing to this pack. And as wotl answered to the "preset-question" before:

i guess that's still ok, isn't? If a few plan to make three presets we're going to have 20-odd presets. There'll even be more when we stick to the remixing idea.

11th February 2005 12:29 UTC

@ tugg and everyone else: please mail me your presets instead of publishing them already.. that takes away all the fun. Once again my emailaddress:
wotl[at]warrior-of-the-light.tk

more than 2 is okay. If you make more then I'll just send them all to your remixer

11th February 2005 14:05 UTC

Too late...

11th February 2005 14:23 UTC

we have a dedicated remixer? how does that work?

11th February 2005 14:38 UTC

we had the idea, that wotl collects all presets and randomly selects a remixer for everyone. The "random remixer" recieves the assigned presets and remixes them. we had the idea a bit earlier, perhaps you'll find the according posts above (i'm a bit too lazy at the moment so you have to look up yourself:p)

11th February 2005 15:03 UTC

sounds good :) and if there will be no theme then my preset is ready :)

12th February 2005 08:41 UTC

i like the sound of that.

12th February 2005 13:26 UTC

the sound of what? Sounds unsound somehow.. :igor:

@wotl:
i hope the deadline for sending in the presets will stay as it is, right? If so, will there be another closing date for the remixes?

my bad... just too desperate to slam it out. :P

BTW, could I write the installer for the pack? I'd like for my APE to go out with it (if thats alright with everyone) and since Pimpbot doesn't have support for it yet.... I'd like for version checking to be there.

So don't wait until that date please.. thankies

talk to PAK about that...

er.. what's it got to do with me?

J are you sure you want to go spreading your APE around in its beta stage? After all when (if) you finish it people will have to overwrite the old one and for simple folk it might all get a bit confusing

for whomever is putting the pack together at the end... I think its important to have a naming convention, I really hate packs that are a mish-mash of titles. For example:

WFCO - 01 - Intro
WFCO - 02 - <preset author> - <preset name>
WFCO - 03 - <preset author> - <preset name>
WFCO - 04 - <preset author> - <preset name>
WFCO - 05 - <preset author> - <preset name>
...
WFCO - 10 - <preset author> - <preset name> (<remix name> by <remixer>)
WFCO - 11 - <preset author> - <preset name> (<remix name> by <remixer>)
WFCO - 12 - <preset author> - <preset name> (<remix name> by <remixer>)
...

something like that

13th February 2005 12:58 UTC

that's a good idea, pak! i agree with this suggestion. There are so many packs that don't start with the intro cause the presets aren't numbered or sorted in any way.

13th February 2005 14:59 UTC

Sorry, I thought wrong.. you wanted to do the intro, not building installer+stuff.. *hits self in forehead*

then, J, it's okay with me.. I'll send it all to you when I've got it all in.

13th February 2005 18:06 UTC

Cool. I can make the installer check the APE version, and it will be final 1.0 by then anyway

PimpBot can check version resources so I'm guessing yathosho will add it to PimpBot too... it shouldn't be anymore of a problem than the multiple versions of color map for example

14th February 2005 18:27 UTC

I remixed J's preset, I couldnt help myself... it kept calling me saying "Finish me! Make me better! Out-do J!"

I'll mail it to you WOTL, if you want me to remix someone elses too I dont mind, but you should include this mix cos it pwns

14th February 2005 18:49 UTC

Another email address

dot.tk email forwarding takes ages.. from now on please send your emails directly to
info.wotl[at]gmail.com
(they ended up there anyway) instead of
wotl[at]warrior-of-the-light.tk
for these purpouses.. I'll read them earlier then. thankies

14th February 2005 20:30 UTC

i send the presets as soon as i made them shiny :) takes a day.

15th February 2005 13:01 UTC

this pack is gonna be cool:D
I'll send my presets soon........

15th February 2005 14:25 UTC

So we dont have to resend them if we sent them to the other address right?

15th February 2005 19:08 UTC

no both adresses are okay.. if you want you can use the other one but it seems to take like an hour or so to forward it in some occasions.

15th February 2005 21:29 UTC

ok, im also going to use the "info.wotl..." address. I'm just making the last adjustments. Will send them during the next days...

17th February 2005 08:15 UTC

i might or might not be here, never the less, i have school, exams, and assignments :p :(

17th February 2005 15:43 UTC

what do you mean, matt? Do you take part or not?

If you want to, just make a few presets and send them to wotl; if not our remix-idea will be a bit problematic, cause wotl will forward our presets to a randomly picked person, who will remix them. So we (or at least wotl) has to definitively know it. However you shlould ask wotl how short in time you can participate.

18th February 2005 09:00 UTC

i've been formatting, backup'ing, 2 partitions....

18th February 2005 11:00 UTC

2 partitons? Wooh, Hardcore. Are you in or not though?

18th February 2005 11:16 UTC

i guess it depends on how big the partitions are, right?

18th February 2005 12:10 UTC

/* off-topic
if i do actually get my computer up and running again, i am posting from my mothers computer, i dont want to touch anything for sure, so the possibility is a maybe - i have to unpack my backups, and search for some avs stuff to do i guess or emulate a bunch of stuff in wine :)
*/

18th February 2005 13:08 UTC

sounds like heavy work! however you should send in at least one preset untill:

18th February 2005 13:19 UTC

I can't imagine letting MATT anywhere near my computer, his mother is a brave lady.

18th February 2005 14:12 UTC

The matter that concerns me most is if you're capable of remixing.. this is what we'll do..

I'll give you a fair chance:

I have hundreds of old presets that I really don't care about anymore.
I'll give you two of such presets.

I'd like to see what you'd do to them before I let you in.
please remix them a bit, but don't start building an insanely big preset out of it as I don't want to ask too much of your time.. it's only an example and won't be in the pack (unless the presets are breathtaking).

Please mail me the remixes when you're done.

PS: I couldn't find your emailaddress so I'll post them here..
PS2: NOTE: these are not the presets I'm submitting to the pack!!!

18th February 2005 14:35 UTC

At whom is this "test" aimed at?
However i'll give it a try, but i don't think that i can fix the unfinished things in "pipelines".. let's see..

18th February 2005 14:38 UTC

I think the test should apply to everyone, that way the quality of the pack will be vetted a little.

Your exempt from the test if you have at least 3 solid packs under your belt ;)

18th February 2005 14:47 UTC

no no pak, you're taking things way to easy! I think if you have "at least 3 solid packs under your belt" you have to remix those presets in 15 minutes to be worthy... ;)

18th February 2005 14:50 UTC

That means Tug, Hboy and Jheriko are totally screwed unless they get here in the next quarter of an hour. The clocks ticking boys bwahaha.... oh yea I'm screwed too cos winamp isnt on the university computers. Poo.

18th February 2005 15:04 UTC

tough luck guys! muahaharrrrr...

btw i think the presets are quite hard to "remix", i'd rather "re-do" them... they have a rather scanty appearance.

18th February 2005 23:23 UTC

The test was created for Matt because with him I haven't seen the quality that would qualify him as someone that anyone would want for a remixer.
But do you ( = ^..^/PAK-9) think it's better that everyone takes that test? We don't have that much time left you know...

18th February 2005 23:53 UTC

no, i don't think that it's suitable to let everyone take this test.

1) as you said it's not much time left, so you won't reach everyone in time.

2) and i don't have the impression that the overall quality of the presets will be bad, there are some good artists participating.

3) if someones remixes are really bad we don't have to admit them into the pack. you could publish the content of the pack when all remixes are done, so that we could finnish it in common agreement...

just my ideas.

19th February 2005 01:22 UTC

heres a few quick remixes of the water vs fire remix...

//edit forgot to say i didnt like the pipe so i didnt remix it :)

19th February 2005 09:15 UTC

sorry to double post updated (took to long)

19th February 2005 10:45 UTC

Ok, wotl i also had to play a bit with your presets, i couldn't take them as they are.
as your comment's headline already says, those were "less advanced presets"... ;)

[edit: i've just recognized that i zipped the unfinished version, i also made some changes to the dm, but well i'm to lazy to post the final remix... in the end there's nothing to win ;)]

19th February 2005 11:17 UTC

mine looks better :p

19th February 2005 11:22 UTC

nope! i don't like that flickering look... too hectic

I what I especially like in ^..^'s mix are the colors, but those hard blue lines are just a tad too strong IMO.

19th February 2005 12:06 UTC

yeah, i know what you mean: when the particles move out of the screen it gets too blue. As i said it's just a quick overworked remix...
Feel free to adjust the color maps yourself ;)

btw. wotl: on what kind of computer did you view "retrolines"? cause im viewing it at 30 fps (P4 3Ghz), just wondering..

19th February 2005 17:05 UTC

Intel Celeron 1.7GHz
384Mb SDRAM 133

19th February 2005 17:38 UTC

ok, that explains it ;)
is it your home PC, or the one in the office you were complaining about recently?

20th February 2005 05:59 UTC

Intel Celeron 1.6GHz
256Mb SDRAM 133 - about the same (my mums crap PC :p )
and the first few I just experimented with...

20th February 2005 12:16 UTC

my own... my folks have a 2.4GHz tho

20th February 2005 12:40 UTC

btw how many participants have already sent their presets?
Are we about coming to the end?

20th February 2005 15:20 UTC

I was gunna ask the same thing, are we on schedule? It would be pretty amazing if a colaboration pack came out without the deadline needing to be extended

20th February 2005 19:02 UTC

New (=non-remix or test) presets so far:

^..^ - two presets
Jheriko - one preset
Mr Nudge - two presets
Mysterious W - one preset
PAK-9 - one preset
PJ - one preset
Tuggummi - one preset
Warrior of the Light - one preset (working on second)

in-advance remixes, tests & other stuff
Jheriko, PAK-9 - Bombs Away (2 remixes in total)
MaTTFURY - Fire vs Water (5 remixes)
^..^ - Fire vs Water (1 remix)

20th February 2005 20:37 UTC

*cough* weren't those "test-remixes" supposed to be put in the bin? Cause the remix actually isn't that awesome...

21st February 2005 04:58 UTC

meh well i thought sooo...

21st February 2005 10:33 UTC

well, let's wait and see how extensive the pack gets with the planned presets + their remixes. Then we can still decide to add them...

21st February 2005 14:16 UTC

they're not added in the pack. I just wanted to make the list complete.

21st February 2005 14:33 UTC

ok. cause if we decided to add them i'd like to overwork mine a "tiny bit"... ;)

23rd February 2005 00:25 UTC

could we ........... add retrolines ? pls? or is rated as crap, if someone could clean it up a little ? i tryed my best thanks :)

23rd February 2005 07:39 UTC

so what's the count now wotl?

23rd February 2005 07:45 UTC

@mattfury, you're the artist.. remixing happens later :)

I have Hboy's presets in now too..

If MaTTFURY plans on adding retrolines, that includes him too then.
I'm still waiting for ishan and I'd like to have anoter preset from those who only submitted one so far if that's possible.

23rd February 2005 08:12 UTC

oh damn. i'm sorry.........i got too busy with my studies. I have two presets both of them are like crap......i dont mind if they dont get selected tho, coz i understand my AVS skills are not up to the standard.

Oh well......its upto you'll to judge that anyway.

Sending the presets right now.

23rd February 2005 08:56 UTC

thanks.. I will be waiting to send it all to the end of the weekend so you still have time to optimize it..

NOTE, I just changed the deadline

then I will spread the presets to the dedicated remixers.. from that point on you can send your remixes to Jheriko

23rd February 2005 09:53 UTC

this seems to be going to be good (crap english) :D

23rd February 2005 14:45 UTC

yeah, i'm already quite eager to see the finished pack!

@wotl: i'm just curious: how did you determine our personal remixer?

23rd February 2005 16:11 UTC

I'm currently writing a program for it... No, I'm serious.
As an assignment for school too.

(and if I don't like the outcome, I can easily change it :D)

23rd February 2005 16:29 UTC

well you said you would randomly choose it. But obviously you're just choosing it by "random". ;)

23rd February 2005 20:46 UTC

Are you going to tell us the new deadline or do we have to guess?

My progress on the intro is a bit rubbish cos of real life(tm) so I hope I can finish it in time

23rd February 2005 20:49 UTC

I on the other hand have nothing but time, if i can help organizing or remixing or something, just note me.

23rd February 2005 21:12 UTC

we could team up on the intro o_o

23rd February 2005 21:22 UTC

PAK-9, you and me?!

23rd February 2005 21:25 UTC

no michael gorbachov and krusty the klown who do you think

23rd February 2005 21:27 UTC

i wonder how long it'll take until you start quarrel... ;)

23rd February 2005 21:27 UTC

:igor:

It just feels so strange... :(

23rd February 2005 21:28 UTC

I believe we already started as you were writing that reply

23rd February 2005 22:26 UTC

The intro will not be remixed, so the deadline for the intro can be easily stretched to the deadline for the remixing... (final deadline is not decided yet)
have fun guys, I'd love to see a collab between you guys instead of a show-off/piss off competition :D

Deadline for other presets is Sunday, February 27th at 23:59 GMT
to get rid of any 'guessing'..

23rd February 2005 22:27 UTC

guess so..
well it would be boring without it, right?

24th February 2005 17:11 UTC

So what do you say Tugg? I never got a yes or a no

24th February 2005 17:19 UTC

would you give a small hint what you are planning bout the intro? Just a bit curios... ;)

24th February 2005 17:27 UTC

I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you and your family.

24th February 2005 17:34 UTC

well, you would have to find me at first :D

and btw you won't find me with winamp's "anonymous user report", it's deactivated :p

24th February 2005 17:42 UTC

I'll get a mod like unconed to tell me your ip (which is logged as you can see at the bottom of your posts) then I'll query the European Regional Internet Registry (the RIPE database) to find out who your ISP is, then I'll pose as a government official and get them to send me your address.

24th February 2005 17:47 UTC

Fine PAK, just get the technics ready and i'll add the blandthestics :P

You know my super secret email address!

Or you could just use the green phone, whatever suits you pakman

24th February 2005 17:56 UTC

I'll mail you it tommorrow when I bring it in to uni with me.

24th February 2005 18:01 UTC

hey pak, as far as i know do you have to proove a suspicion that i abused the internet or dl'ed illegal files before my internet provider will give you any data!

24th February 2005 22:21 UTC

final deadline

how much time is needed for remixing?
two, three weeks? more/less?

let's hear it...

24th February 2005 22:22 UTC

17.5 days ;)

24th February 2005 22:42 UTC

dunno, i haven't remixed much, so i cannot assess the time i'll need. But i think two-three weeks are ok. If some need a bit more time we could add a week.

25th February 2005 02:51 UTC

give me another 5 - 10 days, and more presets? pls

25th February 2005 11:15 UTC

No. You knew this deadline weeks ago. Besides, you don't need a whole month to create a single preset.
And the idea was original presets to start with. Someone else will remix your presets. not your remixes of my originals. Just get busy.

25th February 2005 11:38 UTC

so what do you think wotl, are two weeks (+1 of it's needed) OK or too long-winded for the remixes?

Another thing i wanted to ask: does it matter if someone doesn't remix all presets he gets assigned? I mean if you have presets that are too code heavy/complicated like some of unconed's ones, (i know he doesn't particpate, but you know what i mean) or if they are just too plain (empty) it could be a problem. I hope you understand what im asking...

25th February 2005 12:02 UTC

At least do one remix. (btw not all people have submitted two pieces)

Remixing is always possible. If it's too advanced, you could do a style-remix or something else..
An empty preset is ideal for remixing.. at least then you're not bound to what the other artist did.. just finish it to your likings

25th February 2005 12:43 UTC

I see!! Well you have to tell me! I need "information"*... ;)

Ok, perhaps i have misunderstood the idea of remixing, i thought you have to keep the basic render/trans effects and are only free in the styling, which limits your possibilities. But when i can add what i want, and it's still a remix, it shouldn't be a big problem.
Let's see what you have up your sleeve...

27th February 2005 22:40 UTC

presets sent...
The presets have been sent to the dedicated artists/remixers.

From MaTTFURY I didn't receive anything but those mixes, no original presets.
//Sorry Matt, but you've had the same fair chance as everyone else to mail me some original work but you didn't so yes, this means you're out.

Please mail me the remixes within the next three weeks: deadline: March 20th.

Then I'll email the remixes and presets to jheriko because he wanted to write the installer.

Please let me know it if you encounter any problems or didn't receive my email at all.

27th February 2005 23:04 UTC

Thanks for the mail, everything works fine! The dealine seems more than OK to me.

btw how many presets did you distribute altogether? Or how big will the pack roughly become, assuming that every preset gets remixed?

27th February 2005 23:17 UTC

10 participants, 15 presets, (excluding the 'fire vs water' tests and 'bombs away' remixes)
so 30 presets in total if everything will be remixed.

27th February 2005 23:30 UTC

wow! that'll be a decent pack after all! If you remember how unsure some were in the beginning, that the pack would turn out too small.

27th February 2005 23:32 UTC

Actually it began with me believing that it couldn't be done after what happened with the flamepack..

27th February 2005 23:38 UTC

yeah, also thought of that ;)
but all those general uncertainties at first. This idea began more than a month ago and -apart from more or less offtopic nonsense- we were discussing all the time.

28th February 2005 01:22 UTC

Those 'bombs away' remixes are still gunna be in the pack though right?

28th February 2005 07:56 UTC

hey wotl, i didn't receive anything !!

28th February 2005 09:53 UTC

but you did send him some presets, right? So sooner or later you will surely recieve a mail!

How many "bombs away" remixes will there be? Do you also want to add the "old" ones (eg. the one from paks "avs 4 se" pack)?

28th February 2005 11:19 UTC

great going guys! i suppose the pack is shaping up quite nicely. I hope to see a real cool pack here :D

i hope my presets dont bring the overall quality of the pack down...................

28th February 2005 12:25 UTC

Nudge, I sent them (again) to the same address you used to send me your presets. If that email address is not valid at all or if you still din't recieve anything, could you send me another address?

2nd March 2005 13:51 UTC

Just so you know... I got my files fine :)

5th March 2005 22:11 UTC

I recieved my file. Can I plz send in a late file cause my phonelines, and therfore internet, were down. It's ready now.

6th March 2005 14:39 UTC

I've received your file and forwarded it to your remixer.. I'll leave it up to him wether he has time for it or not..

7th March 2005 23:42 UTC

so when is this pack actually coming out?

8th March 2005 09:58 UTC

when all remixes are done, and jheriko made the installer.
If i remember correctly the remix-deadline is 20th of march, so you have to ask jheriko how long it takes him to make the installer. Assuming that he won't need more than a week or so for it the pack is probably going to be released somewhat around end of march / begin of april. (Just my calculations)

9th March 2005 07:54 UTC

a week?? just to make an installer?? cmon.

9th March 2005 11:49 UTC

/me is eagerly waiting for the pack.

9th March 2005 16:45 UTC

it was just a large scaled calculation.
Besides, Jheriko does not only have to make the installer, he has to test it and check if it works under all common operating systems. :p

However, i'm going to send my last mail concernig this pack later this afternoon. After that my contribution is done ;)

9th March 2005 19:29 UTC

Common Operating Systems = All windows versions (beside < win95) ;)

It doesn't really matter what windows version the user has, because it will still be able to detect winamp and the installation folder. (and if it doesn't work for you, then it doesn't even need to work for you, because clearly your not worthy enough)

9th March 2005 20:42 UTC

Do i hear a small hidden offence against linux etc. users?
That could mean trouble...

10th March 2005 05:11 UTC

does anyone here even use linux??

10th March 2005 06:52 UTC

jaak -> wine -> w/a
//edit me sometimes, and ask everyone in GD ... :p

10th March 2005 17:02 UTC

Jaak can figure out any installation problems himself, he's a big boy now :p

The rest of us surely use windows, riiight?

10th March 2005 17:34 UTC

why should i use something different then windows anyway? Are there different operating systems? I don't know any! Windows is my one and only and favourite and the best and the most stable and greatest and most awesome and...

....

...and most stylish operating system. Seriously!

10th March 2005 18:37 UTC

I'm going to cut and paste that post into a *nix forum

10th March 2005 18:42 UTC

If only WA ran under DOS 5.x

10th March 2005 18:44 UTC

C:\progra~1>cd dosamp

C:\progra~1\dosamp> dosamp.com /avs

Welcome to DOSAMP!

It really splits the llamas ass!

but don't ask me what it's supposed to mean...

[code]
e:\progra~1\dosamp>render /?

Renders one or more items to the frame buffer

RENDER el

el Specifies the effect list to render in
code Specifies the code block to use
-s Use spectrum data
-o Use oscilloscope data
/r Render ring to the framebuffer
/p Render points to the framebuffer
/ss Render superscope to the framebuffer

el must be a unique effect list identifier (UELI), see

Press any key to continue . . .

Well I'll be

...damned.

11th March 2005 15:05 UTC

stable? best? my arse it is.

12th March 2005 10:57 UTC

is there a war on OS going on here? :p

12th March 2005 11:10 UTC

no, not really. Actually i think every os has it's pros and cons. I'm only using win, cause it's the most supported one so i don't have to search long for programms/drivers etc. Also my first own PC came along with win95, if linux had been more common in that time i would probably use it now.

14th March 2005 09:51 UTC

Windows

CONS:
Uncustomizable (without additional programs or hacks)
closed source :(
Unstable

i guess discussing about win or linux could be just as senseless as a discussion about whether to use nvidia or ati gpu's or like intel vs. amd or discussing about belifes or... :weird:

14th March 2005 13:35 UTC

I agree that ^..^ needs a bit of a slap for calling windows stable and 'best'.

The question is how many other O/S's have you actually used on a regular basis and in how many contexts?

14th March 2005 13:41 UTC

oh! im sorry pak, that you didn't get that this here was meant ironical:

Honestly, did you really think that ^this is my opinion?

14th March 2005 13:45 UTC

^..^, i think you're being double-sarcasm'd... or something :p

14th March 2005 13:47 UTC

I'm getting al confused with ^..^'s triple ironical double bluffs

14th March 2005 13:51 UTC

Let's see that would be... sarcasm of the sarcasm of the sarcasm of the sarcasm of the original sarcastic post.

That's nothing yet. Wait till he slaps out a quadruple ironical post with a triple sarcastic content, then worry.

14th March 2005 13:55 UTC

yeah, its to compensate that i can't really double/triple/etc...-post. So i'm trying this!

No, joking apart, was it really not obvious that this quoted post was ironic?

14th March 2005 18:21 UTC

Not really, at least two people though you were serious. You need to add a little ¬ if your not sure people will understand your being sarcastic (and being sarcastic != irony)

16th March 2005 09:03 UTC

it's easy to pick a sarcastic tone of voice, but not that easy to pick out a sarcastic tone of text.

16th March 2005 10:09 UTC

yeah, that's the problem. Perhaps there should be an "sarcasm-ahead" or a "attention-the-following-words-contain-ironic-elements" smiley. Then it would be much easier (at least for me).

16th March 2005 11:20 UTC

yeah, because that would be REALLY useful*

*sarcasm intended

or something like that

16th March 2005 11:25 UTC

lol
yeah, you seem to be just as clever as you look ( ***349; )

( ***349; ) = "post could contain sarcasm"-character;)

16th March 2005 15:11 UTC

how bout going for the simple stuff:

[sarcasm] HEY YOU LOOK GOOD! [/sarcasm]

after all......we all use [] and [/] tags :p ;)

16th March 2005 15:22 UTC

yea, but those tags are a bit too striking. It thought of a more discreet notice. Not all people need such thick glasses, or do you?

16th March 2005 18:05 UTC

you people all have too much free time.

Pretty much 90% of what I say is either sarcastic or witty in some way, I dont have time to write little tags or characters to indicate it.

16th March 2005 19:27 UTC

It's an idea for those who only sometimes are sarcastic, but most of the time are nice to people. So, i guess you wouldn't need it. :p

16th March 2005 19:44 UTC

erm... yeah.
Well, what about the pack? Did you recieve most remixes already?

16th March 2005 23:24 UTC

most yea.. not all yet.

16th March 2005 23:30 UTC

deadline is sunday evening, right? Just to officially notice it by the way...

17th March 2005 01:11 UTC

¬_¬ someone email me teh pack?

17th March 2005 01:18 UTC

why? what?
the pack isn't even finished! Just wait till it's published and grab it then!

I have to agree with that :D

17th March 2005 06:25 UTC

Isn't that what  is for, or ;) ;) ;), or mabye :D :D , or :p. JUst suggestions :D :D :D

17th March 2005 10:27 UTC

the problem with those smilies is, that they don't really fit.
 for example refers to the previous post somehow, i guess like 'omg what kind of crap did he write?' And i normally use :D when something is very funny. Last but not least :p is the smiley of choice when i posted something cheeky or so.
...
damn, we're derailed again. Hasn't anyone got another question concerning the PACK?

17th March 2005 14:13 UTC

only answers...

Deadline is Sunday indeed.
And no, noone will email it to you.
Just download it like everyone else.

17th March 2005 14:46 UTC

nice. So the packs gonna be rocking!

17th March 2005 14:55 UTC

I'm twitching in anticipation

17th March 2005 14:59 UTC

:D
yeah i'm dying to see it, either!

But without any sarcasm!

17th March 2005 15:00 UTC

do i sense a bit of sarcasm in there? or is it just me?

17th March 2005 15:02 UTC

no! i was serious!
But as we stated recently, pak was more than probably sarcastic. And i was laughing bout his post.

17th March 2005 15:11 UTC

lol ^..^ i guess we posted at the same time. I was talking bout PAK's post too.

17th March 2005 15:44 UTC

oh, well. I was wondering, cause pak's posts mostly ever are sarcastic. so i thought you refered to me.
Im paying attention since recently, that my posts cleary indicate if they are sarcastic or not ;)

17th March 2005 16:36 UTC

Twitching, honest to god, TWITCHING.

17th March 2005 16:48 UTC

Fast! Can someone please call a doctor!?!?? Pak seems to have epileptical attack! :p

17th March 2005 22:55 UTC

derai... ah nevermind

17th March 2005 23:59 UTC

this topic is confusing...

18th March 2005 00:05 UTC

yeah, what about not posting here if it's not concerning the pack, from now on?! I promise to do so, if the other do so either!

18th March 2005 15:21 UTC

regarding the pack, is the work on installer scripting done already?

18th March 2005 15:56 UTC

i guess no, cause wotl sayd he'd keep his email account open for remixes till sunday night. After that he will submit all the stuff to jheriko who actually makes the installer. I don't know if he prepared something alread, but wehther he did or not, i guess we're supposed to have patience for still a while... :hang:

18th March 2005 16:29 UTC

J's coming over to my house for a few days so I wouldnt expect anything too quick

18th March 2005 16:34 UTC

what a pitty... :(

However, have a nice time!

18th March 2005 16:50 UTC

Are you implying that we will be engaging in inappropriate relations!??!??!

CHOKE ON YOUR SLANDER!!!

18th March 2005 17:51 UTC

oh sorry i didnt want to say anything mean! Really, if so i would have added the sarcasm-indication-character.

What did i say then?

PAK's gonna play Mrs. Choksondik and J's gonna play Mr.Mackey.

That's inappropriate enough!

19th March 2005 05:28 UTC

i wonder if ^..^ triggered the GAY alarm :p.......

btw, ^..^ : it feels weird to call you ^..^...........

19th March 2005 12:36 UTC

If this weren't my own thread, I'd post a this-thread-is-gay image right now :)

19th March 2005 13:19 UTC

@ ishan: yeah i know: ^..^ is a tongue-twister. Recently i was wondering if i should give some explanation in my CT, such as how to pronounce it. Then it just occured, that i don't know myself how to pronounce it. If you have an good idea or know a abbpreviation for ^..^, just let me know and i'll ask a mod if he could change my CT accordingly.

General notice: i didn't want to say that pak and jheriko should do inappropriate things!! I only wanted to say: It's a pitty that the pack wont be finnsihed this week. But neverthesess i'm not angry about it.

Damn, what it gets to when those sick brains interpret it wrong...

19th March 2005 14:52 UTC

BTW back on topic J's internet connection is sketchy at best at the moment, so since he's coming here you might as well send it to me and if he finishes it here I'll send it on [to wotl] or finish it up and send it if he doesnt.

Tugg: I'm ALL about Ms Chokesondick right here

^..^: Your handle is one of the few that can be spelt on a calculator.... oh yea and CHOKE ON YOUR LIIIEEEESS!!!

19th March 2005 15:10 UTC

damn, pak i said i am sorry for that confusion. It was a classic "non-native-speaker" mistake!
So can we please forget it now? How can one be so unforgiving?

btw ok my name could be displayed in the screen of a calculator, but what numbers, or so would you type in to get that? Probably you must have some good solder skills to get direct access to the display...

19th March 2005 16:31 UTC

I'm just joking about the slander thing, I guess I fogot the [THIS IS A JOKE OR SARCASIC COMMENT]<post>:))));):DDDDD!!111![/JOKE OR SARCASTIC COMMENT]

My Digital camera is crap but heres a pic of my calculator

19th March 2005 17:03 UTC

better pic

19th March 2005 17:26 UTC

@ pak:
*disgraced* how could i forget that nearly all of your posts are sarcastic... somehow i thought you really felt offended...

Hey those pics are funny! I didn't think about that, cause my calculator doesn't have such a formula-display (have got the casio fx-115s). Wotl do you mind if i take yours and make a avatar from it? I was searching for a new one anyways.. (actually i was working on a screenshot of one of my presets, but that's even funnier!)

19th March 2005 23:27 UTC

better take this one.. it's in .png instead of .jpg

Image is from a TI-83 emulator
(yes I have a real one myself too, so it's legal)
I used it a lot when I first started coding... it's a great tool for those purpouses

19th March 2005 23:52 UTC

Thanks you very much!
We should discuss any further questions concerning this topic in the cafe. Also we could have a beer there! cheers!

20th March 2005 01:39 UTC

i don;t think this could get any further offtopic, wait a minute, yes, it could. the point is; stop it.

20th March 2005 06:15 UTC

there is'nt much to talk bout the topic anyway. Just have to sit and wait for the pack.

20th March 2005 10:23 UTC

We could bet which day the pack is finally released!?
Minimum stake is 10€ or $13.32 or £6.93 or 1 1/2 camels or whatever you have to hand at the moment...

20th March 2005 11:32 UTC

Today is teh deadline... deadline deadline deadline

20th March 2005 11:40 UTC

23rd March 2005 11:12 UTC

23rd March 2005 11:44 UTC

23rd March 2005 11:53 UTC

Changed, thank you

23rd March 2005 13:56 UTC

well i also don't believe we need those additional remixes...

/edit: did i say that the pack seems to be really cool erm.. even awesome? :D damn.. can't hardly wait anymore!!!

24th March 2005 06:47 UTC

wow, that's quite a decent sized pack!

24th March 2005 08:44 UTC

cool. the names of the presets seem really nice ;) i have'nt seen the presets tho :p but i do believe that with so many great AVS artists in the pack.....it promises to be and Absolutely Awsome pack :D

24th March 2005 10:55 UTC

Didn't you know: if Pak is just about to be content with presets or a pack, then the stuff is actually really cool. Well, pak said it's an 'very nice' pack, so i guess it's actually an amazing cool pack!!! (provided that he didn't 'translate' his rating into our system of values already) ;)

24th March 2005 13:35 UTC

Hmm, looking at the list of who remixed who, it doesn't seem quite so random as Wotl said :p

24th March 2005 13:48 UTC

what do you mean? two artist remixed each other but for the rest it varied a lot.

24th March 2005 14:39 UTC

Yea, I think its REEAAAL varied [/SARCASTICALISM]

24th March 2005 15:02 UTC

ok, but wasn't it supposed to be that way, i mean that everyone's prests are remixed by only one other artist? So why do you complain?

24th March 2005 15:46 UTC

^..^, apart from you mixing my preset, the rest goes like this:

1337 AVS-artist preset (remix by another 1337 AVS-artist)
n00b AVS-artist preset (remix by another n00b AVS-artist)

That's why i said it isn't quite "random"

24th March 2005 16:03 UTC

If noobs mix r33t and r33t mix noob you get a balance see

24th March 2005 16:09 UTC

oh i see. but i didn't pay attetnion to that.
Hey tugg, in our case it's still like

1337 AVS-artist preset (remix by another 1337 AVS-artist)
or vice versa, not quite sure :p

24th March 2005 16:12 UTC

Errr, no.

Sorry ^..^, but you're a n00b. A terrible smelly n00b.

24th March 2005 16:14 UTC

I'm gunna say "Ouch" for ^..^

24th March 2005 16:18 UTC

i know. i haven't even released a single pack.

Hmm usually you're all so damn humorous, but when it is about you beeing lame or leet you can't take a joke. What a pitty...

24th March 2005 16:25 UTC

We can't take a joke, because AVS is fucking serious business!!!

24th March 2005 16:28 UTC

blablabla... go tell your granny!

btw why is everything so black/white. Either you're noobish or you're '1337'. Isn't it possible to have a state in between?

24th March 2005 16:30 UTC

No.

24th March 2005 16:36 UTC

pah.. go home..

24th March 2005 16:39 UTC

I am at home, thank you very much.

And you're still a stinking n00b.

24th March 2005 16:40 UTC

WFC1 - 16 - WotL Vs PJ - sing'n'swing.avs

v

WFC1 - Remixes - WotL - sing'n'dance (PJ's sing'n'swing remix).avs

and no, it isn't random.
I wanted a good pack and honestly I expected endless discussions about who should better remix who so I had to be a little 'creative'
I did make the randomizer program tho

The biggest n00b must be me tho :
Even without randomizing I'd have Ishan remix his own stuff  (yea you can flame me now)

Mixed something for him myself to kinda make it up

24th March 2005 16:43 UTC

That elite section of the forums looking pretty good now huh? am I right?

Hahaha, you want so badly to be 1337 that you will resort to anything! hahaha!

You really shouldn't be saying people have a bad real life when you know absolutly nothing about them.

Im 1337 and you're a n00b, reallife(tm) has nothing to do with that fact.

24th March 2005 17:01 UTC

@ wotl: :D lol
but it would be a quite plain life due to only 2D, wouldn't it?

@tuggummi: sorry didn't want to offend you personally. I was just wondering why this leet/lame thing is so important for you!?

24th March 2005 17:01 UTC

Tugg, weren't you once proud of being a n00b? what happened to you?

I've decided your not leet anymore cos you kicked me from #ff, now your a big smelly noob head. So there.

24th March 2005 17:13 UTC

Im just doing you a favor, really. #AVS is so much better than #ff, but you can't see that by your own eyes. So i gave a little "help" for you seeing that.

#AVS is better because:

- It has UnConeD
- Less disconnections
- You can register your nick (so none can steal it from you)
- You don't need a bot for your channel, because of ChanServ
- Topic's actually show up
- No mentally sick nazi-operator who will kick you if he has had enough beer.

24th March 2005 17:19 UTC

Yea but now I'm banned I just want to get on it more than ever

24th March 2005 17:22 UTC

Tell you what. I'll go to the Karaoke, have a nice time, maybe sing a song. Then after that (what, 4-5hours?) i'll come back and if you still want to come back to #ff, i'll unban you.

Really, why can't we just all go to #AVS? I give up... #finnish-flash is dead, don't join that channel anymore.

24th March 2005 17:30 UTC

I'll be waiting

24th March 2005 17:33 UTC

God damn it, i can't resist those puppydog eyes =^_____^=

Okay, you've all been unbanned now (though i except as few returners as possible)

24th March 2005 22:12 UTC

im just curious, what makes a avs-noob in your opinions? Or what must an artist achieve to be leet? I don't claim to be leet (btw if it means to become like pak for example i gratefully reject ;) ) but i wanted to know what kind of classification system we're in here...

24th March 2005 23:46 UTC

Either: Make cool enough preset that the AVS community is in AWE

or either spend 3 years on commenting and giving QUALITY (doesn't mean 3 words) feedback to other AVS authors.

The you'll be 1337.

25th March 2005 00:07 UTC

hmm let's see.. i have to stay another 2 and a half years giving quality feedback to all other avs'ers here or try to awe the community. Well there might be some cool stuff in between my work. Thank god you said 'make cool enough presets' cause i somewhat dislike the 'techdemo preset' hype there is (no i'm not just too lazy to learn the code). Of course, most code-heavy presets are awesome, but i've seen rather ugly presets containing loads of code and claiming to be cool... oh sorry i derailed a tiny bit :D

However, at first i should consider if i ever want to become 1337 :p

25th March 2005 00:23 UTC

Amen brother

/swings arms in the air

25th March 2005 00:38 UTC

i wonder when pak will finally recognize that this elite section doesn't exist at all?! Well we shouldn't wreck his dreams...

btw: that's how you become when you're 1337?
- you piss everyone off who is below you in ranking
- you become schizophrenic and talk to yourself
- are arrogant
- and are sarcastic all of the time
in a word: you're insane...

ok, i'll rather stay a helpful and obliging noob, before i want to become something like that.

25th March 2005 00:57 UTC

Hah, just listen to what that bloody n00b has to says, ridicolous eyh? You're right! Absolutly ridicolous! You suck ^..^! Yeah! You suck ^..^!

25th March 2005 01:04 UTC

ok, you can stop now. I learned my lesson, i won't try to become '1337'.
Cause you're here -> X

and all noobs are here -> X

roger that...

25th March 2005 01:05 UTC

FINALLY, they get it

25th March 2005 01:14 UTC

sooner or later you have to get it, when you're confronted with such remarkable deterrent
examples like you ;)

25th March 2005 02:37 UTC

where abouts am i on that scale?

25th March 2005 09:46 UTC

well, i've learned that there isn't any transition state. Either you are on the upper or on the lower level but not in between them. Sad but true... (like in the quantum theory, if you know what i mean ;)).

25th March 2005 11:16 UTC

Its all bs. I think ^..^ is l337 enought to not be called n00b. look at the presets. volumetric texer cube != noob, even if its broken. and the two presets for this pack are pretty damned sweet i'd say...

anyway... i need to go make intro...

25th March 2005 11:32 UTC

thanks jheriko! that's a load off my mind! *gains back self-confidence*
Finally my efforts during the past half year haven't been in vain!

25th March 2005 13:42 UTC

well i'm stil guessing

25th March 2005 16:28 UTC

well i'm a n00b alright :p and i have absolutly no problem in being called that

25th March 2005 17:11 UTC

hmm i wouldn't call you both noobs. But that's just my opinion. Probably we got into this whole discussion, cause i interpret the word 'n00b' a bit different than others...

n00b n00b n00b n00b n00b n00b
n00b!!!

25th March 2005 18:57 UTC

n00b n00b n00b n00b n00b n00b n00b ....

26th March 2005 09:37 UTC

only that much ? pah! i thought you guys could do better :p

26th March 2005 13:00 UTC

obviously not.

26th March 2005 13:23 UTC

what a pitty, isn't it?

26th March 2005 14:16 UTC

We just dont want this thread to get recycle binned

26th March 2005 14:24 UTC

how prudent...

erm btw: are we going to release this pack on da.com either? If so, then whose account is going to be used? I hope that we won't get into any disputes about that.

26th March 2005 15:17 UTC

it will be Wotl's account i guess, he started the thread anyway.

26th March 2005 17:09 UTC

I think someone was saying a new account is going to be made... but I dont think thats a very good idea. Wotl's account would be fine by me

26th March 2005 17:14 UTC

yeah i'll agree with that too.
if we should plan to make such a pack every once in a while we can still reonsider a new account.

26th March 2005 18:33 UTC

okay. My account for the fist one.. if there are going to be more then we'll create a DA account/group/etc. and move the 1st one + the newer ones there.

What about the WA.com release?

26th March 2005 18:37 UTC

Yea stick it on wa.com

As for more community packs, well jeez THIS one isnt even out yet!

26th March 2005 18:53 UTC

I meant the name to publish it under, not if.

New account or an existing one i.e. mine/J's...

26th March 2005 19:14 UTC

well the name is 'winamp forums compilation' right? Couldn't you just submit it using your wa account and ask if they publish it under that name or won't this do that?

28th March 2005 02:19 UTC

I've mailed the pack installer complete with a finished intro to WotL. I know I should have done it on Friday.... but I took my time about it and made a (disproportionately) complicated intro.

I reckon we should start a new da account if there are going to be more winamp forums packs. Its just tidy... and it won't clutter up one of our personal pages with comments intended for the pack(s). I'd recommend a simple name like waforums or something.... I would rather not post it on my own account, but have no objections to WotL or anyone else posting it on theirs.

This thread is starting to get way to long...

edit: okay so i made the effort to read what came before and i'm submitting the pack. i'll put it in to winamp under my user with a comment to attribute it to the community. i'll submit it to da with a new account unless someone particularly wants it on theirs and posts back before i fall asleep and wake up again.

28th March 2005 09:40 UTC

i agree with the new DA account, its tidy, and more importantly, it will not make any copyright issues. as for wa.com agreed your account is cool too :)

28th March 2005 09:48 UTC

*excited* can't wait anymore, can't wait anymore, can't wait anymore... :D

IMHO it's ok what you did so far concerning publishing. That new da.com account is fine for me too. Did you open it already? And if so: under which name?

btw, not only this thread is getting much to long, but also the pack itself took much time for planning and carrying out!

28th March 2005 10:55 UTC

http://winamp-forums.deviantart.com/

28th March 2005 11:12 UTC

Damn! That one deviation made me wish it was the pack, but it was just a stupid wallpaper :(

28th March 2005 11:24 UTC

yeah i also thought it was the pack but actually it wasn't...

anyway, that account is good, everything important has been mentioned (except the pack: want it NOW!...). btw who will manage that account? What kind of stuff are we going to release there except the pack? Shall we publish other stuff than preset packs anyway?

28th March 2005 16:14 UTC

i guess that Wotl and J can manage the account. They're smart enough ;)

28th March 2005 16:22 UTC

Whoever that made that account might like to give me the password and crap so I can use it. Otherwise how will the pack get there? Magic?

28th March 2005 16:59 UTC

lol. WotL : you have'nt given J the pswd as yet? :p do so quick so we can all get the pack ;) btw it REALLY rocks, and the intro is ABS(awesome).

how do i know that? well i'll just say thanks to J :)

28th March 2005 17:22 UTC

damned favourite! :p
hope wotl gets back online soon!!1!

28th March 2005 21:05 UTC

Mailed J the passwords and other crap..

In my mind I was still going to upload it all.. We didn't discuss who would do what about submitting it all..

28th March 2005 21:07 UTC

ayeeee.... thanks! now hurry up J!!!! :D
it's unfair that ishan knows the pack already! :(

28th March 2005 22:05 UTC

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/16612164/

quit complaining and go get :P

28th March 2005 22:32 UTC

puh.. i was nearly dying of anticipation.. :p

WOW, double !!
Yes people, it was worth all the work/discussions/arguments we had during the last weeks ;)

Congratulations to everyone who contributed on this pack! Those are cool and surprisng presets!

I'd also like to thank wotl (for compiling/ making that new account/having that idea at first), jheriko (for making the installer/intro) and Pak (intro)! Ok, enough words of acknowledgment have to watch the pack again..

'Mission Accomplished'!

btw, nice remixes wotl ;)

Real subtle there Ishan. ;)

So... when do we start planning number 2? Its got to be done now we named it 'Compilation 1'.

29th March 2005 04:56 UTC

J : i did'nt want to start a fight here :p i sensed that people would say that it was unfair for me to get the pack first :p

w00t. yeah the pack is amazing! :D i'm all up for Compilation 2. :)

29th March 2005 09:07 UTC

It's ok now, ishan. finally i got the pack, too!! Also we needed a 'beta-tester' right? ;)

And yeah, count me in for Compilation 2! :D

btw wouldn't it be nice if we extend the remixing part a bit more? For example everyone could receive the presets from two others (but doesn't necessarily have to remix all of them). Just an first idea...

29th March 2005 12:47 UTC

mad mad mad pack. well done everyone.
i'm in for pack2 when it rolls around.

30th March 2005 08:36 UTC

i'll be remixing this time :) my exams were on the last time so i could'nt....but now i can

1st April 2005 03:00 UTC

cool, not looked at yet (no winamp on this pc & no network connected noclosebrackets!!} how many presets and start a new topic, sux for 56k'ers... ohhh the irony!!!

1st April 2005 10:41 UTC

WTF are you trying to say matt?? I can't remember your last post that was comprehensible at once (wait, has there ever been such a post?). So please take a second and re-read your post before submitting!!

1st April 2005 16:05 UTC

leave it ^..^ , MaTTs always been like that and i doubt he'll ever get some sense.

1st April 2005 16:13 UTC

never give up hope!

But probably, he's really just the disconcerted boy romping around mumbling incomprehensible stuff... Hey, that would be a great role for a sitcom!!!!

2nd April 2005 17:01 UTC

at least he has one point. this thread is massive

we should abandon this to die and start a new one when enough people want to start work on the next pack

2nd April 2005 18:28 UTC

yeah that's right, but how did you get what he wanted to say?

btw, who will lead the next project (collect the presets etc)? I suggest that this person should start the new thread.

3rd April 2005 07:44 UTC

I vote for WotL, he handled the last one pretty well. Unless he doesn't have time or doesn't want to...

Then either Jheriko and/or PAK-9.

Time wise, i could do it too since i have nothing but it, but people don't trust me anymore :p (neither do i)

3rd April 2005 08:48 UTC

re-re-re-reading always does well hey jheriko ;):p

3rd April 2005 10:38 UTC

I agree with Tuggummi. If WotL accepts, we should let this thread die (as j already suggested) and wait untill the new one is opened.

7th April 2005 19:30 UTC

Hooray, its up

http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=144659

8th April 2005 15:49 UTC

.. Aaaand it's offline again?! All presets that were published April 6th are gone again.. The link above links (or better: forwards) to the WA front page :igor:

8th April 2005 15:55 UTC

well, yesterday it definitively worked for me...
hmm, the winamp-plugin-system is really weird...

9th April 2005 04:50 UTC

Dunno, it works for me.

Ah, 91 downloads, just 255,842 more and it will have caught up with P9 AVS 4 SE

9th April 2005 05:30 UTC

Bah... if only the Winamp 3 components hadn't been wiped. My Whacko AVS V download counter pwned all of you! ALL!!!

9th April 2005 06:09 UTC

Oh well, we all know the number of downloads is just based on how long a pack stagnates on the plugins front page.

9th April 2005 09:38 UTC

Bah, you all know the downloads of Generation X ass-raped all of your petty little packs.

10th April 2005 10:04 UTC
