my idea: help - hints?
ART SIDE: you've got the normal linear perspective (a line) and get the middle point... and draw almost a triangluar shaped object, then do all the gradients and the zoom (like a rotoblitter ssc), and here's an example...
http://img131.exs.cx/img131/2972/linearstuff1ts.jpg
I've done this in art on paper quite beautiful actually won 2nd prize for it :p

Er... no wait... let me just re-read it for the third time... your trying to describe... hmmm... tying to describe.. some..thing... trying to describe..using a horizon line and vanishing point to draw perspective in a 2D picture! I got it! Oh no wait, rotoblitter... superscope... no thats AVS stuff not 2D picture stuff, damn.

Oh well, its probably the closest I've ever come to understanding one of MaTT's threads.

I think I understand. It's called a caleidoscope and has been done 4 zillion times... 3.5 years ago

...nonononono !!!

its when you drive down a straight path like a road that leads to nowhere, and well you drive down the middle e.g.

point a gets smaller as you move through

You mean a driving style preset? Hasn't Pak-9 done one in his last pack?

That preset always looked a bit dodgy imo, the bubbles lookeed like the driver was having a bath as he rode along.

31st December 2004 10:33 UTC

You mean like this?

note the date on this (abandoned for obvious reasons) project

/edit: renamed file due to that fux0red ';'... Glad I have this new name now :D...
/edit2 won't do: wants to d/l attachment.php instead of the zip no matter what I call it
/trying new post - that ; really messed things op

31st December 2004 10:52 UTC

no it's called linear perspective....

31st December 2004 10:58 UTC

Parallel lines seem to meet in infinity. now please explain why this is something new. and what the hell do you want hints on?

31st December 2004 11:36 UTC

he means to do a linear perspective projection in avs, but he didn't undertsand that it's exaclty what 3d scopes are all doing.
There`s little example, just read comments

thats not what he means, its just visual thingy... perspective

there is no such thing as infinity, therefore parallel lines can not intresect there, and trust me... they dont :p
what you mean, is that parallel lines *do* intersect, in non-euclidean geometry.

i do know that they dont intersect in euclidean geometry. that is why i wrote "they seem to" ;)

whats the point in this thread anyway? I dont think this thing is new to anyone.

Actually you can express points and lines at infinity using homogenous coordinates. You add a scalar value to your existing coordinates, so (x,y,w) for 2D and (x,y,z,w) for 3D.

To map homogenous coordinates to plain ones, use (x/w,y/w) for 2D and (x/w,y/w,z/w) for 3D. The reverse mapping is just (x,y,1) and (x,y,z,1). The points (x,y,z,w) and (2x,2y,2z,2w) represent the same point in 3D.

By setting w to 0, you get a point at infinity.

If you take two parallel lines in 2D:
x-y=1
x-y=2

then you convert them to homogenic coords by replacing the constant term with a w term:
x-y=w
x-y=2*w
which solves to:
0=w (subtract second equation from first)
x-y=0 (first equation updated)
x=y

so any point of form (a,a,0) is a solution, which represents the point at infinity at 45°, which is where these two parallel lines 'intersect'.

Using homogenous coordinates in 3D allows you to express any 3D operation (translation, rotation, shearing, perspective projection, parallel projection, ...) as a 4D matrix. Without homogenous coords, you can't do translations and projections.

In fact, it allows you to separate points (non-zero scalar) from vectors (zero scalar). If you add a vector to a point, you get a point again. Adding two points is not allowed, but you can add their difference (vector) to another point.

and w= width AND/OR custom variable??

you really should google some before asking that stupid questions

Well its too expensive to do propper refracting little blobs of water

2nd January 2005 06:17 UTC

AND/OR

2nd January 2005 09:36 UTC

WHAT ARE YOU SAYING

2nd January 2005 12:33 UTC

this has go to be the most pointless thread i've ever seen.
a horizontal line (horizon line, funnily enough) with vanashing point lines extending down from the center in classing perspective drawing style. Ok, now would you please explain what the f*** is the point of showing us that and what you plan to achieve with it.

2nd January 2005 17:12 UTC

You can ALWAYS count on MaTTFURY to say/start threads which are totally unintelligent and plain STUPID.
:hang:

2nd January 2005 17:17 UTC

:D nah he just wants to be a forum king.

2nd January 2005 17:23 UTC

shit.....cant he be banned?

i dont know if he has violated any rules or laws..........

2nd January 2005 17:28 UTC

he didn't, or at least I don't know he did. i don't think so.

2nd January 2005 17:40 UTC

Im sure that he wore a speedo to the beach or sumthing and the universe punished him with inane stupidity.

I think posting crap like he does just to become a "Major Dude" and raise your posts should be seen as violating forum laws.
Seriously his sudden urges to post crap is unbelievable.Like 1/3 of the threads on the AVS section is MaTTFURY's crap.

Kick him NOW b4 the forum gets wasted from his crap.

2nd January 2005 17:40 UTC

Haha this post just makes me giggle

2nd January 2005 18:20 UTC

finally banned. would have happened a long time ago if i was boss. :)

2nd January 2005 19:56 UTC

OMFG IT DID IT!

2nd January 2005 20:41 UTC

What was he banned for? I didn't no excessively annoying questions and incoherence were grounds for banning someone...

2nd January 2005 20:55 UTC

http://forums.winamp.com/rules.php

Topics/posts that are just complete nonsense will be deleted, or have the entire thread locked, at the moderators discretion.
If a post is suspected to serve no other purpose than to increase the post count of the poster, then the moderators may, at their discretion, issue a PM to the member in question enquiring about the nature of the post. Posts/Threads that are blatantly post pumping will be removed/locked without recourse to the poster.
To keep the page loading time and visual annoyance factor down to a minimum, ensure your graphical signatures do not exceed a maximum of 12,500 pixels or 15 kilobytes file size, whichever is reached first. Alternatively, three lines of text can be used as a signature. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined such that it does not wrap when viewed at a resolution of 640x480.
What happens if I break the rules?
At best your post will be edited by one of the moderators and you will be issued a warning. If the offence is more serious your post will be deleted. Posting "why was my post edited/deleted?" etc. will only make matters worse so please don't.

Should you have already been issued warnings and continue to break the rules, you will be issued a temporary ban - your posting privileges will be disabled for seven days, but you will still be able to view the forums as a guest.
Matt has done all of these things, and been warned several times.

2nd January 2005 21:12 UTC

Finally!Wohoo!!!!
No more crap-ass threads and brick-level intelligence on these forums.;)

2nd January 2005 21:27 UTC

just wait if he will be (which i don't want to happen but maybe he will be) unbanned and comes back to say bye...

2nd January 2005 21:35 UTC

Nah..theres tooooo many people who hate him!

3rd January 2005 05:55 UTC

I have slight simpathy for him, but not slight enough to care :) rock on

3rd January 2005 07:43 UTC

this thread needs to be locked.

3rd January 2005 12:53 UTC

Wow... at last it's over! I can't believe.
Let's see if he reconsiders his behaviour during the week...

(Damn.. just wasn't here for a single day and i miss the whole fun :( )

3rd January 2005 14:16 UTC

I suppose this is a temporary ban, or is this permanent?

3rd January 2005 23:43 UTC

no idea...
but i think he should get a last chance. i doubt that he will change his manner cause so many people already tried to bring him to sences.
But as everyone deserves a last chance so does matt. And when he also rejects this one, its more than justified to ban him permanently.

just my opinion..

4th January 2005 14:31 UTC

YAY!! finally......i guess my post up there was the real fire to the already hot issue :D

4th January 2005 15:26 UTC

bad conscience?
but probably it was ok to throw in this idea. i mean someone finally had to teach him a lesson he can't ignore.

Normally i'm a quite friendly guy, so there has to come a lot, before i really feel pissed off by someone. But matt finally managed it...

5th January 2005 13:38 UTC

no wonder

wonder if somebody has already posted this.

5th January 2005 13:48 UTC

you are first
did you notice zevensoft? ;)

5th January 2005 14:09 UTC

haha thats awesome :D Tugg is the man!

5th January 2005 15:00 UTC

yeah tugg must have nerves like steel.
i would've got furious at the latest when matt told, that he didn't know decimals..
oh... my.... god!

6th January 2005 12:58 UTC

yeah......that was the topic yesterday at #ff. Quite awesome how tugg handeled matt ;) :p
