Winamp 5 Beta 1 Crap!?!?
I just ran the Winamp 5 Beta 1 and I was browsing through some AVS' at school and when I ran some of Elvis' AVS' I recieved an error message:
"vis_avs.dll" (i think)
So is Winamp 5 Beta 1 crap? or just a fault in the Advanced Visualisation Studio?

28th October 2003 07:50 UTC

maybe it's your Linux Operating System :blah:

28th October 2003 07:51 UTC

Well it's just a beta, so I guess there will be errors. Probably be all fixed by the final. That's an AVS error though, so I dunno.

Bizznatch, if you read that linux thread then you should already know that the fkn OS i'm using at the moment is not LINUX!

I'd say maybe the .dll is fubar.

Because really, it's just winamp2 with pretty plugins. And as we all know and rant about, winamp2 is reliable, stable, and "better than winamp3"

its not winamp5's fault, its the updates to avs. its a PRErelease, if you lok properly. If it bugs you, report the bugs, or downgrade the avs to the last final release.

Yes it is crap - so much so that they didn't even officially release it, it was leaked. It's so crap that they've covered it in huge disclaimers, warning you that parts of it might not work. Man, they haven't even finished it yet, how crap is that!

Of course it's crap,
IT'S A FRIGGIN' BETA!!!

Welcome to the world of beta testing guinea pigs! If you don't want to deal with it, switch to another version.

28th October 2003 10:38 UTC

it can only be vis_avs.dll (AVS).

winamp 5 beta releases also includes AVS 2.7 pre-release versions (current is pre7 i think). Its not completyely bugfixed yet, and it *may* have some compatibility issues with the older presets, furthermore, there are some random crash-bugs with avs that have no real explaination and are seemingly random.

has it happened more than once?
what preset were you running?
had you altered the preset?
what display specs were you running?
were you in the midst of changing presets?
were you in the midst of coding?
anything else you noticed...

also, can somone move this thread to vis/avs sub-forum?

RED TEXT SHOULD BE BANNED

28th October 2003 11:56 UTC

COPY AND PASTE IS FUN!

28th October 2003 12:12 UTC

I dont use AVS, so I have no problems with it so far, bar the crapy looking new skin, carnt wait until some decent ones come out using the new format.

28th October 2003 12:46 UTC

WINAMP 5 MULTIPLE BITCH THREADS SHOULD BE BANNED :blah:

31st October 2003 08:47 UTC

Winamp 5 didn't really need to be involved here in the first place because i tested each version, and found that while running some of elvis's avs's the AVS 2.60 would return the fault on all winamp versions.

31st October 2003 15:00 UTC

please, we at avs are egre to help.

cooperate bitch:

ok sorry. i should have cut it down instead of just quoteing myself.

my bad.

1st November 2003 13:32 UTC

I just ran elvis' newest pack of avs's (forgot the name) and as i went through each one, about 5 of them would crash winamp!

1st November 2003 16:00 UTC

Run them again. They'll work.

Now answer the question, "Do you have the required APEs?"

If you do, then the crash is a normal AVS phenomenon. Nothing can be changed to fix it, we AVS junkies get it all the time.

EDIT : HUGE grammar b0rkz0rness.

2nd November 2003 12:40 UTC

what a fucking GD-styled language is used here. Not to mention that half of the posts are completely useless or irrelevant.

Anyway, I haven't encountered any problems with AVS so far in Beta 1. All APE's work correctly, and the presets I've watched and made don't fuck up as well.

3rd November 2003 08:36 UTC

It would be polite to include APE's with an AVS pack, as it has been done, or would it not?

3rd November 2003 11:21 UTC

Normally the artists do, but they supply you with an option whether you want to install the APE's or not - "Make sure you have them".
And dont worry, crashes occur all the time, especially when you load some high tech presets with insane code and dm's.

3rd November 2003 15:31 UTC

Plus, some older versions of APE's that you may have had overwrite newer versions can cause AVS to crash. Try making sure you have the newest versions of them.
