Archive: The second AVS tournament

6th August 2003 11:44 UTC

The second AVS tournament
After a great and succesfull tournament we decided to do another one :).

It'll be based on the same idea as the last one. For the people who didn't join then: You start with a given number of players, and every round a few will have to go out (knockout system). Presets will be rated on how they look, how original they are, and how much they have to do with the name (each round you are given a name, an example from last round: glow in the dark). This will not be a race for who uses his best technical skills, which wouldn't be fair for the less technical AVS'ers.

This means everyone can join, the higher leveled ones, but also the n00bies and newbies.

For as far I know: Raz will join, and so will Siddhartha_one. Ishan_rocky volunteered to be judge again. I agree on that if the others do as well, because he did a great job last round.

So who's in? Everyone can join, it's just for fun, you don't have to be a math wizard!

As for the start date, this is still unknown. It depends on how many will join, and when people say they can start making their presets.

So let's go for it again :), it'll be great,

Deamon

6th August 2003 14:15 UTC

I'll judge this one as well, since i judged the last one as well.

6th August 2003 15:19 UTC

i'm already in as a judge:)
i hope we have more contestants this time.

6th August 2003 15:45 UTC

yes, me too. Ok, good to hear we have 2 judges already :). That is, if "the others" agree. Now let's see who are going to be the others. Come on people, sign up! :)

6th August 2003 16:03 UTC

I'd like to join this one.. I missed the last one due to lack of forum visiting.

6th August 2003 16:07 UTC

Good, I wanna see some sweet Jheriko-type presets.:p

6th August 2003 16:11 UTC

so what about others?

6th August 2003 17:00 UTC

Raz is on vacation for about a week, and will most likely join when he get's back. Haven't heard anything from the rest of the last round. I hope they all join again. And I hope a lot of different people will join, not only the diehard regulars ;).

Glad to have you in as well, Jheriko

6th August 2003 21:18 UTC

skupers is also on vacation

6th August 2003 21:21 UTC

what the hell, count me in as a contestant

6th August 2003 21:33 UTC

tugg needs to get back. When does he got back by the way? Anybody know?

6th August 2003 23:26 UTC

Yeah alright I'll join.

6th August 2003 23:34 UTC

I'll lose, but I'll still try!

count me in

7th August 2003 01:03 UTC

huh? wha?
*sid wakes up*

oh yeah, im in i guess

7th August 2003 01:22 UTC

I'll make something in my free time, but I still got to get home... How much longer till we start, since I might not be atmy house for another week.

7th August 2003 03:42 UTC

I would contest and compete. Sign me up for seven.

7th August 2003 05:56 UTC

Me in... I think...
Bleh, I'm in.

7th August 2003 07:23 UTC

ffs...

...okay i'm in >_<

7th August 2003 07:24 UTC

great! :) Nice to see so many people joining already in this short time. Not to worry about starting dates people, we'll start discussing that in a week or so, when most people are back from their vacation.

Confirmed joins:

1. Deamon
2. Jheriko
3. Horse-Fly
4. Zevensoft
5. Akuso
6. Siddhartha_one
7. S-uper_T-oast
8. Geozop
9. Nic01
10. Atero (good to see you haven't fully left yet :))

Judges:

1. Ishan_Rocky
2. Anubis2003

Unconfirmed joins and vacation people who might want to join:

1. Raz
2. Killahbite
3. Skupers
4. Tuggummi

Everything going nice and easy. Things seem to get along just fine. I love it :). Let's hope more people will sign up, and that the unsure ones all join as well.

Lalllaaalllaa, I enjoy this :D

7th August 2003 07:55 UTC

looks like a good group of candidates...

7th August 2003 09:22 UTC

sure does, but the more, the better :). Keeps it more exciting. Oh, and judges, start simple eh ;) don't make up extremely hard things to do in the beginning. Not very polite for the newer people around here who might join. Unless you want to differ the man from the boys.... *evil grin*

(wonders in which category me falls)

7th August 2003 09:23 UTC

someone could inform people at Devart,
and tug's back on 18.8.2003.(he told me in Finnish-Flash)

7th August 2003 09:27 UTC

Ok we'll wait for Tuggummi before discussing starting times at least. I can't inform people at DevArt, I'm not a member over there. Perhaps somebody else can do so? Tournament will be on the winamp forums still, I hope they don't bother. Though the idea is good, it might attract quite some other players if they like the idea.

[edit]

People from last round who haven't posted yet:

m^2k
Raz
Skupers
Shreyas
Magic.X
Runar
Mquadrat

You guys join as well again?

[/edit]

7th August 2003 11:25 UTC

It looks like a pretty formidable group of AVS artists will be competing, this should be a good contest - can't wait for it to begin. (So I can kick all of your arses :p)

7th August 2003 11:35 UTC

yeh... *couch*....right.. ;). wtf hasn't Tuggummi replied? he just replied to some other topics as well, wtf is he skipping this one :(. Oh well, we'll hear sooner or later.

7th August 2003 12:07 UTC

this contest is going to be sweet. I guess people missed out on the last one and don't want to do the same with this one.

7th August 2003 13:19 UTC

could be, but they can also see this as a second chance ;)

7th August 2003 16:06 UTC

I'll join because I've never been in a tournament before, I know I'll most likely lose, but I just wanna see what it's like and see what I could create :)

7th August 2003 21:57 UTC

I did the same last round. It's really worth the trouble. I thought I'd lose the first round already, but I even didn't, it's always suprising what happens, and to see what you are really capable of. Nice to have you in Pixelcraft :)

8th August 2003 06:52 UTC

I would join but i work and i dont have as much as time i would need to make some competition worthy presets, sorrry, cant join, maybe ill join if there will be another competition after 17-th.

8th August 2003 14:41 UTC

I don't think that this one will be starting for a while. Tugg gets back on the 18th(assuming he's in).

8th August 2003 15:44 UTC

well cant wait!:D
will have to start thinking about the topics already ;)

8th August 2003 19:06 UTC

btw i'm gonna be on vacation 'till tuesday...don't start without me...

8th August 2003 22:31 UTC

yo do that Ishan :). Don't worry Atero, we won't.

9th August 2003 03:10 UTC

Here are some suggestions for topics:

Quartic DM
Raytraced shadowing
Dynamic lighting
Tweened animation
Human figure
Using the entire variable limit
Non-linear tunnel

:p

9th August 2003 03:16 UTC

Even you and unconed haven't made a quartic DM that works off of the z=0 axis.:p Let's go with that one.:p

9th August 2003 03:33 UTC

Let's not get carried away in the first round, lets do quartic DM's in the final round or something.

9th August 2003 03:46 UTC

Yeah lets go for that one. ;)

9th August 2003 03:58 UTC

can we just start small first? and NOT use raytracing? im still trying to get that down...

9th August 2003 04:01 UTC

Akuso, we were joking. Topics are more along the lines of "Glow in the Dark" and stuff like that. Technical knowledge isn't needed.

9th August 2003 05:03 UTC

whew! ok... now that I look at it though I feel stupid for not noticing all the green smilies.... to quick to reply I guess

Its a good thing though.... I was worried so I started looking up how to do 3d scopes and I made my frist one! HAHAH!!! still confused but Im finally learning! :D now Im really exited to see what I can do when Im under pressure!

BRING IT!

9th August 2003 06:52 UTC

BRING IT!
Be patient, we are waiting for tug and others.

9th August 2003 10:16 UTC

it'll come, don't worry. And it'll start easy for sure, so don't worry about that either. :)

9th August 2003 10:48 UTC

uh hello everybody

I'd like to join the contest, is it still possble to sign me up??
well i hope so,

\\\SlasH///

9th August 2003 10:50 UTC

Sure, join the club :). The more the better.

9th August 2003 17:27 UTC

Yeah its just my psychological tactics at work.

9th August 2003 21:45 UTC

Would join as a judge if I had time, I'm back to the island I'm spending my vacation on on Tuesday and won't return till 15th-18th August. I probably could start judging with the second round or something.

9th August 2003 22:33 UTC

jheriko, cause of those "suggestions", i am hiring a hitman, well i would if i had the money. you lucked out.

9th August 2003 22:50 UTC

You really shouldn't start scaring the newer guys among us away ;). I don't even know what a squartic DM is.

9th August 2003 23:55 UTC

A quartic DM is a DM that would allow some really cool looking surfaces, such as the torus. Jheriko and UnConeD have tried doing it, but can't seem to get it to work right(jheriko can't anyways).

10th August 2003 05:25 UTC

Quartic DMs are raytracing DMs that can solve problems in form of x^4+ax^3+bx^2+cx+d=0, http://mathworld.wolfram.com/QuarticEquation.html for in-depth... the maths behind it is complex, which is why most of us are leaving the work to the two of them :)

Quartic surfaces include Chmutov Surface (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ChmutovSurface.html), Goursat's Surface (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/GoursatsSurface.html), Torus (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/GoursatsSurface.html), and a shitload more.

10th August 2003 07:06 UTC

lets not fill this thread up with more codey drivel. Tugg has said that he doesnt have time to enter, even when he gets back from his hol.

But ill ask him again next time he's o/l just to be sure =D

10th August 2003 17:07 UTC

sounds cool, and damn hard :p. Too bad to hear Tug will probably not join. :(. Any more people who want to join, or can we start discussing when to start the tournament? (that does not mean I suggest we start right away, just merely thinking about it).

10th August 2003 21:07 UTC

how about you guys get your ideas of themes ready, and begin whenever

Edit: i am now senior member... neato

10th August 2003 22:05 UTC

Yeah.. the sooner the better, I'm itching to get going. :D

11th August 2003 01:44 UTC

I thought were starting on tuesday because of Atero?

11th August 2003 07:27 UTC

More ideas for topics:

-fire
-flow
-smooth
-scopes
-over the rainbow (I dunno ;))

11th August 2003 08:37 UTC

Jeeeeez, another tournament?

Yeah, why not, i'm in :D

Btw, we had a couple of damn good ideas what could be done better in the judging system (see last tournament thread) so please remember them BEFORE we start this one.

I think it was like this:

We need one coordinator who gets the presets by mail.
After a round is done, presets are randomly renamed and send here, then every contestant can judge them (except his own preset).

The votes are send to the coordinator again and he publishes the result.

11th August 2003 09:26 UTC

That indeed would be fairer, though it complicates things a lot. I like the general idea of the coordinator, though I don't like the idea of having to mail all the presets instead of posting them here. Also I can't see other peoples work (though that's fairer too ;)). We didn't have any problems with judging last round, so why change it? Ah well, I guess it's up to the judges. The idea is good :).

Glad to have you in, Magic.X, and thanks for the judging support. :)

11th August 2003 11:02 UTC

The basic things i dont like about the other system is that you can do only one thing, judge or create. Both would'nt be only fairer, it would give all Members the possibility to evaluate the other presets which i would prefere.

And the mailing thing is just fine. If the first posted Preset is some SupertechyUnConeDlikeawesomelooking stuff, the reaction among newbies is "OMG, i could never do something this good" which is fairly disappointing right at the start.

Its just a suggestion. Take it or leave it, i won't mind. ;)

11th August 2003 11:39 UTC

having 3 judges is fair enough. If we would start a system which means everyone rates everybody's preset, that would go way too slow. Mostly because of people who aren't regulars or have dial-up connections and cannot therefor check everytime to rate every preset. I've changed my mind about the mailing thingie, I guess it's do-able just fine :). And it's up to the judges to make some good topics about what we should do. I'm sure they'll start of easy for the newbies.

11th August 2003 11:45 UTC

I don't really think they'd launch a topic like raytracing and if they did, i'd make up SSC ray and a SSC Crosshair that "traces" along the ray :p

11th August 2003 12:23 UTC

We aren't going to be choosing any topics where you have to have any sort of advanced knowledge. All of our topics will be more or less "themes" that you build your presets around.

As for judging, I see nothing wrong with what we did last time. Having everyone judge would make it end up taking a really long time.

11th August 2003 13:11 UTC

I agree that there is no real point in such a convoluted judging system... it will just slow things down, even though it is fairer and generally better.

I wish I never made that post... it seems to have caused general disarray.. it was meant to be a joke. :(

11th August 2003 13:23 UTC

we know :), don't worry.

11th August 2003 14:18 UTC

Yeah, i just made another one with the "raytrcing" preset

12th August 2003 01:11 UTC

I'm waiting on Ishan's reply right now. I gave him some suggestions about the topic and such. Once he replies, and everyone gets back from vacation then we'll start. WOOT!

12th August 2003 05:46 UTC

Anubis Sez....
I'm waiting on Ishan's reply right now. I gave him some suggestions about the topic and such. Once he replies, and everyone gets back from vacation then we'll start. WOOT!
Thanks for clearing that up :)

12th August 2003 06:48 UTC

Me in, need sleep and recover from booze week now, just count me in.

12th August 2003 07:27 UTC

Good to hear :)

[edit]
Who has still got to get back from vacation? Only Skupers, right?
[/edit]

12th August 2003 13:58 UTC

Atero too, I think.

12th August 2003 15:31 UTC

hey i'm back :D i had gone out for a couple of days.
many people have joined. thats good:up:

anubis: i have replied to your pm:)

12th August 2003 16:41 UTC

Ishan convinced me to join the tournament too.
So it seems that i'm in!

12th August 2003 17:01 UTC

15 people so far, and atero should be back today. Is skupers gonna be in it?

Competitors:
Deamon
Jheriko
Horse-Fly
Zevensoft
Akuso
Siddhartha_one
S-uper_T-oast
geozop
Nic01
Atero
Pixelcraft
50slash05
Magic.X
Raz
Oussy

Judges:
Ishan_Rocky
anubis2003
Doggy Dog (?)

12th August 2003 17:23 UTC

dunno, we're waiting for him to reply. Till that time signups are open to every one. After that I think we can get started :D.

[edit]
I suggest 2 instead of 5 or so people get kicked out every round. Otherwise the round will go to fast. Just an idea, it's of course up to the judges. I prefer 2 each round.
[/edit]

12th August 2003 17:33 UTC

We do that though, and we'll have like 7 rounds. That's a lot of rounds. If that's what everyone wants then let's do that. Opinions anyone?

12th August 2003 20:00 UTC

I think we should make it last a while.... maybe 3 a round

13th August 2003 06:04 UTC

maybe 2 - 3 peops a round

13th August 2003 06:48 UTC

Hmmm. Why do we kick anyone? We could sum up the points from every round in the end instead, so it will last as long peopel like! Besides this is much fairer, because noone gets kicked because he got a topic he couldnt be creative enough with.

(This has been proposed before and the majority agreed)

13th August 2003 07:26 UTC

Sounds good. It'll be more fun for the people who otherwise be kicked out in the earlier rounds as well. If we have a knockout system, I think 2 or 3 people should be eliminated each round, though I generally like the idea of Magic.X a lot more. :D

13th August 2003 09:41 UTC

I have the longest name, thus, i shall win!
BAHAHAaaa

13th August 2003 10:37 UTC

lol, sidd.
Anyway if thats the way everyone wants thats always OK, but then the main idea was of a knockout tournament was'nt it?

13th August 2003 11:19 UTC

No that was the first one, i'm open to different ways of doing things and this doesn't sound like that much of a bad idea.

13th August 2003 11:50 UTC

Previous one was indeed knockout, and that worked just fine, but this is much more fun, since it lasts longer, and it's fairer to people who just happen to suck at one theme. You even say it in your signature, Ishan ;)

13th August 2003 14:12 UTC

BAHAHAaaa
Wtf does that have to do with anything? lol :D

13th August 2003 14:12 UTC

If we do that then we need to go ahead and decide how many rounds we are going to have.
[edit]It also appears that atero's back, so let's hurry up and get started before someone else leaves.[/edit]

13th August 2003 15:43 UTC

As much as possible if it's up to me ;). I guess it isn't a good idea to just get started and then see how long we want to go on? We can always decide later when we want to stop...

13th August 2003 16:04 UTC

thats fine with me. I guess i just mixed up this tournament with the previous one:p
so when do we start? i guess we have the first topic ready(anubis?) so we an start.and what about doggy dog? is he judging too?

13th August 2003 17:26 UTC

Yeah, we got a topic ready. Doggy Dog will probably be judging(if not this round then the next one) - he should be back before the first deadline. I say we do 5 rounds. 5 rounds and 15 contestants makes 60 presets - A nice number for a large pack.

Each of the three(two?) judges rates each preset out of 10 points based on:
1. ability to represent topic
2. overall appearance of preset
3. Um, there is no three that I can think of.
That means a possible total of 3*10*5, or 150 possible points at the end of five rounds. Top three contestants get recognition. It would be nice if they could have a custom title for a month like MOTM winners have(would that be doable mods?). If not, then they just get the nice feeling that they are better than everyone else.:p

13th August 2003 17:31 UTC

great... so the topic is: .....?

(judges please fill in on the dots)

14th August 2003 01:00 UTC

I'll post the topic soon. First a few more details to work out:

1. How long should the time be to make the preset? 1 week sound good?
2. Since the point total is cumulative, can people join in after the first round and still be put in the competition? They'll be at a disadvantage of having missed rounds, and it will allow people who happened to not know that we were doing it to still be able to participate.
3. Once again, there is no three.:p

14th August 2003 04:39 UTC

I guess it doesnt matter if you miss rounds now then.
A week sounds like easy enough time, though people seemed to not get it in time last time.. ie me..
oh well.. people miss out, its their own silly fault..
...

Oh, usually the third thing to look for would be the technicalness of it, not neccessarily groovy insano code, but just the techniques they have used to get the effects. .,.. but oyu might not want to judge on that in this thing.. seeing as there are many youngens here.

..

i'm oh so tired...

im gonna go and play some coinop SF

14th August 2003 08:35 UTC

I would like to have a 2 week deadline for those who dont get it in time. If everyone submits earlier, fine then.
Round is closed after all submitted, but definately after 14 days.

Would this be ok with you?

14th August 2003 09:33 UTC

I agree with that. So we don't have to rush things :)

14th August 2003 11:56 UTC

=D

14th August 2003 12:07 UTC

OK.

AVS Tournament Round 1
The topic is...<insert drumroll>... Dreams.
Deadline: August 28, 11:59 PM GMT

Now get to work!!:p

14th August 2003 12:09 UTC

Magic has started right away with *dreaming*

Stupid question: normal dreams or drugged up ones :p

14th August 2003 12:40 UTC

Either. Hell, you could have dreams about a damn unicorn. Just try to make it look like a dream cause that's what we judge a good bit of the preset on - it's ability to show the topic.

14th August 2003 13:08 UTC

I've just finished something actually. :D. I think i'll wait though, see what other ideas i can add/change about it.

14th August 2003 13:18 UTC

dreams...hmm...lemme think about that one ;) I always forget my dreams. Me started working as well.

14th August 2003 13:55 UTC

Confess yourselfes: you're all dreamin about SEX :p

Now this will cause some really wicked presets.

I got something ready too but i'll have to do some refinements.

14th August 2003 16:40 UTC

well, anubis posted the topic already...good...well lets see what happens:rolleyes:

15th August 2003 02:08 UTC

can i post one of what the devil dreams..
like maybe even his nightmares?

heh heh heh..

15th August 2003 02:15 UTC

...that is the worst topic i ever heard. how many of you actually dream about avs presets? furthermore, how many presets could not be described as "dreamy" in one way or another?

i suppose you'll still stick to the topic via your anus...*grumble*...:hang:

15th August 2003 02:47 UTC

Atero, it's not about dreaming about AVS presets. It's making an AVS preset that is like a dream. Elvis's dreamtime is a good example.

15th August 2003 05:09 UTC

where do we email the preset?

15th August 2003 05:22 UTC

Um, weren't we posting them here? Or not?

15th August 2003 06:05 UTC

how many presets could not be described as "dreamy" in one way or another?
and you're still not going to change it to anything vaguely specific are you -_-;

*sigh*

15th August 2003 08:08 UTC

well UCD's camatose enlightment was a dreamy preset. "Dreamy" - by this we mean it should be slow, mesmerizing and have drugish(o_O) colours and not jumping around and fast presets.

15th August 2003 09:15 UTC

I don't mind this topic... I have a great idea for a preset and one involving pointlessly complex SSC models. :D

15th August 2003 11:58 UTC

So are we doing the whole send to one person via e-mail or just posting them here?

15th August 2003 12:05 UTC

I'd prefer the pm/email thingie to keep it exciting till the end.

15th August 2003 12:08 UTC

Who are we going to send them to? All of the judges?

15th August 2003 12:12 UTC

I think so, otherwise they'd need to exchange the presets.

15th August 2003 14:13 UTC

We will need e-mail addresses to be posted here then. Or even better one of the judges could come along and be a bit more specific about whats happening since some people seem to think we are posting and others think we are e-mailing. It would certainly be better if we all did either one or the other and not both, thats for sure.

15th August 2003 15:56 UTC

I thought we were doing that thing where we all send our presets to one person who renames them all to number so none of the judges know who did what preset?

15th August 2003 16:01 UTC

There's some serious confusion around here...

15th August 2003 16:32 UTC

Raz, if we're doing that, then whose the one who's going to recieve them all? We need someone to volunteer for that.

I sent a PM to ishan discussing the matter. Once us judges decide what we're going to do, one of us will let you all know. Until then, you can still make your presets(the topic won't change).

15th August 2003 17:24 UTC

I might have not as much time for this as I wanted, cause my new computer is finally in. That means I got A LOT more on my head than avs. Also, school begins again in 2 weeks. Still, I'll see what I can do :).

Me likes skool, specially wan itz klosed. ;)

15th August 2003 19:23 UTC

Meh, why bother with all that hassle. Lets just do it the way we did it last time and post them in this thread.

15th August 2003 19:29 UTC

Its the easy solution, thats for sure.

15th August 2003 19:42 UTC

The simplest anyway.

Things should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

15th August 2003 19:56 UTC

meh.

15th August 2003 20:15 UTC

Sounds good.:p

15th August 2003 20:30 UTC

Guess we are posting them then....

edit: can't edit an attachment onto this.. my bad.

15th August 2003 20:34 UTC

Not exactly dream like... but it fits the theme nicely. :D

15th August 2003 21:00 UTC

Badaba-boom

16th August 2003 06:37 UTC

Damn j, thats sweet..

16th August 2003 07:48 UTC

thats good:) i dont like the presets to be mailed me.

16th August 2003 12:58 UTC

Heh, well, looks like I'm screwed.

Mine's almost done though:)

16th August 2003 15:09 UTC

I forsee good things for this tournament... :D

16th August 2003 15:52 UTC

yeah, i also think that this tournament is gonna be a blast:D YAY!

16th August 2003 18:55 UTC

I think this will get very competitive towards the end.. we'll see all sorts of really high quality avs come from this. :)

16th August 2003 19:16 UTC

I'm baack :). Guess I'll be judging the 1st round too :).

16th August 2003 19:18 UTC

what's the deadline? a week after the announcement of the topic?

16th August 2003 23:55 UTC

Atero, I'm surprised at you! :D

Anyway, here's mine, couldn't think of anything else I could do to it, but overall I'm satisfied with the end result.

17th August 2003 00:35 UTC

That deadline is so far away.. hopefully everyone will submit a preset way before it... otherwise this whole thing will take forever.

17th August 2003 00:53 UTC

thanks, but no. there's no reason to rush imo

17th August 2003 03:05 UTC

is someone actually going to be come to this page to determine if we got our preset in at, for example 11:58:59?

17th August 2003 06:07 UTC

The time of posting is labelled on each post. You posted that at 3:05 AM.. I hope at least that everyone gets the time in GMT on the forums otherwise it will screw everything up + I live in the GMT time zone.. not too far from Greenwich either... so it saves me hassle. :)

Atero: I was more hinting at people waiting for everyone else to post so they can examine the competition and strive to make their preset even better... its not exactly cheating but it would be really annoying because it would slow things down, if two (or more) people did that and ended up posting on the last day at practically the last minute, if everyone actually had their presets ready a few days earlier. Rushing is bad... I know I posted my preset pretty quickly, but it was one of those mad inspiration things rather than a rush.. I couldn't stop myself from AVSing so quickly!

17th August 2003 08:51 UTC

oh hey, but it says 10:05 on my computer... it must be your local time zone

17th August 2003 13:27 UTC

you can set the timezone in your control panel.

17th August 2003 15:06 UTC

everybody should set it to GMT so that we can have a common time so that we dont have any hassles.

17th August 2003 17:26 UTC

How about just saying seven days from this time, then the time on the message will be correct for each time zone. You people don't half make shit way too complicated.

17th August 2003 17:54 UTC

I don't know why ishan is trying to make it so complicated. I know that my time is GMT-5. When it is Aug 28 at 5:59 for me, I will know that the time is up. It's simple.

17th August 2003 22:05 UTC

The forums time is wrong anyway... its ten minutes slow.

18th August 2003 09:24 UTC

hmm... i just read the whole thread and looks like a few people really wanted me to enter... but i don't have enough time for this and to be honest i don't care that much even if i would have time. Also i read that you delayed the tournament because you were waiting for me (and a few others like skupers) so im sorry if i caused any unnecessary delays. I wish you all good luck on the tournament, but i'll just be a watcher this time :)

18th August 2003 11:40 UTC

The dream:

18th August 2003 16:33 UTC

hey that was just a suggestion i did not want to make things complicated.

18th August 2003 17:46 UTC

entry
i just found out about this contest today
i'm a new artist; i started around june and i will release my first pack soon

this is my entry. it needs the dynamic clear screen APE, which is included in the zip file.

18th August 2003 18:45 UTC

You guys are doing great.

Robotisgod, that really isn't what I expected from a new guy! Nice work.

19th August 2003 03:17 UTC

Damn, now I got to get a good preset, that is a nice tunnel robotisgod.

19th August 2003 07:26 UTC

Wow, are you sure you're new to AVS? ;)

19th August 2003 11:42 UTC

Sorry for double posting, seems that edit time is over.

I would like to add one small note to my tournament entry "the dream". I've just watched it on my new computer and it's way faster than it's meant to be. To the judges, it's meant to run with about 6-7 FPS. More than this will speed up the preset a lot, which will still look pretty nice, but not very dreamy. I hope you can take this in consideration while rating the preset,

Thank you :)

19th August 2003 11:54 UTC

/me has to think of the framelimiter.ape again...

19th August 2003 11:55 UTC

yeah so did I, though it's not there yet, and I do not have the skills to write it myself. :hang:

19th August 2003 12:46 UTC

dream
ah.. here's my shitty preset for the tournament.. i really don't have much time, because of school and everything. And I've got to make something for FF7 too :)

19th August 2003 13:22 UTC

Could you please post it as a .zip, since it is a more commonly used file type on the forums, most people don't have winrar here. Thx.

19th August 2003 14:17 UTC

I tried changing it to a zip file, tried changing it to an AVS file, neither of them worked, what the heck is that thing??!?!

19th August 2003 14:27 UTC

LOL!

This is a winrar file. Its like zip, but another compression format.

Do the following:

-get WinRar (or WinAce)
-unpack the preset
-repack as a zip file

And keep in mind that changing file extensions wont change their type or content.

19th August 2003 14:31 UTC

Aww, cannot add files on edit!

Anyway, repacked it.

BTW: seems as if it crashs my WA for some reason :weird:

19th August 2003 14:38 UTC

Doesn't the latest winrar make .zip's though?

19th August 2003 18:29 UTC

I believe that all of the winrar's can make zips. The one I have can make zips.

19th August 2003 21:29 UTC

Also WinZip can make and extract .rar's

20th August 2003 06:01 UTC

cool! such good presets  i'm gonna have fun judging.:)

20th August 2003 08:41 UTC

fuckit, i've got nothing. :hang:

20th August 2003 09:26 UTC

No indeed, it's a fucking empty zip file :p, Atero. And Magic.X, it seems you're right, Oussy's Illegal Dreams indeed are illegal, it crashes my winamp as well.

20th August 2003 09:49 UTC

what a waste of web space, atero, if it did take up space....

20th August 2003 11:20 UTC

Oussy's preset didn't crash my Winamp, I've seen it properly (didn't try it out in fullscreen tho).

20th August 2003 11:45 UTC

what's it like?

20th August 2003 11:47 UTC

Crashs mine on load. Dunno why.

20th August 2003 11:51 UTC

yep, I gain a notice like: "winamp has recognized faults in Winamp AVS, please restart Winamp." And then it's gone.

20th August 2003 12:35 UTC

Daemon, pic attached.... I dunno why it would crash your winamp, seems perfectly ordinary to me. Then again, I use Wa2 maybe it crashes on Wa3 or something like that.

20th August 2003 13:26 UTC

that can be it, I've got to use wa3 since it's slower, and my pc is too fast for wa2 avs. It just totally screws up presets like tunnels and rolling balls etc.

Looks quite nice from what I can see from the shot. Thanks for making it.

20th August 2003 13:52 UTC

It crashes WA2 and even WA5alpha :weird:

21st August 2003 00:19 UTC

LMAO :D try this one :p

21st August 2003 09:29 UTC

that's better, I see you're learning fast :p

21st August 2003 17:39 UTC

nice atero:up:
btw,oussy's preset crashes here too:(

22nd August 2003 04:19 UTC

Doesn't crash here (AVS 2.5, Colourmap 1.2.2b)

22nd August 2003 08:00 UTC

Yaeh, now it works.

Ty! :D

22nd August 2003 14:19 UTC

oops sorry! should have thought about that... :|
here's the .zip. sorry

22nd August 2003 17:09 UTC

thats much better:D

23rd August 2003 08:49 UTC

still no inspiration from this side of the .... of the........ from here

23rd August 2003 08:51 UTC

hey i like atero's preset, only thing is that it is sloow....

23rd August 2003 12:46 UTC

Man... I've been through like 5 ideas already.
I can't seem to get inspired. :(

I suppose this will have to do.

24th August 2003 02:33 UTC

ditto akuso...i blame anubis ;)

24th August 2003 03:08 UTC

Yeah.. it was a pretty lame topic.

24th August 2003 06:06 UTC

I suggested some other better ones, but ishan chose dreams out of the ones I submitted to him.

25th August 2003 06:39 UTC

Man, i had to mess around with this topic without getting any idea for almost one week.

But then suddenly BANG!

Here is my preset, have some fun with it (see: huge comment ;))

25th August 2003 15:06 UTC

Come on people - the deadline is approaching. Get your presets in.

25th August 2003 15:29 UTC

How much still have to submit?

25th August 2003 15:31 UTC

~7. Not sure the exact number. Just want as many as we can get - help keep the competition up and so we can make a good pack.

25th August 2003 15:38 UTC

I'll try and prod Slash a bit ;)

25th August 2003 16:27 UTC

yeah blame me for the topic:hang::mad::cry:

:hang:i think you all are right, that is a pretty lame topic:confused:but i promise better topics for the next round.

26th August 2003 03:48 UTC

Here is my dream. I know I could have done better with this. Oh, and sorry for the long title, that's just how it ended up. Uses Jheriko's multifilter ape, don't know if mine is the most updated, but I included mine.

26th August 2003 04:25 UTC

my preset, yeah, done

26th August 2003 08:05 UTC

Yeah, this makes 9 entries, more of them please! :D

There are still 2 days left so get moving ;)

Btw, Ishan the Topic is'nt too bad, because it gives you enough creative freedom to do anything you like. It's just a bit harder to come up with an idea.

26th August 2003 08:15 UTC

I can come up with presets better when i'm given a more specific topic myself but that's just me.

26th August 2003 10:03 UTC

It's a good topic in the way that you are very free to do whatever you want with it, though it's a bit vague in my opinion.

26th August 2003 10:24 UTC

It's just as Raz said. If you've a clear descritpion of what is expected, you can start up work nearly immediatly - but the results would the more look alike, the more the description is close to the point.

So all you gotta do is come up with a good idea that you like.

Is it really this hard? You can dream about everything imaginable.

Examples: (Drugs, Sex, Flying, Nightmares, ...)

It's not the point to make everything look dreamy (what is dreamy anyway? sometimes its sharp, sometimes blurred) but to give the viewer the intention that this is a dream. (Comments may help here)

Hey, even a cube DM with a photo of your gf on the sides would do, coz you dream of her every night. :D

So again: get your ass moving, be creative! There are still 2 days left.

26th August 2003 13:06 UTC

lol @ that :)

27th August 2003 10:44 UTC

[honest]i promise better topic next time [/honest]

27th August 2003 10:52 UTC

Now stop excusing plz, it was'nt THAT Bad (imho). :)

27th August 2003 17:10 UTC

geez, thanx :) so other enteries?..........

27th August 2003 20:47 UTC

well, it seems like alot of people won't make it to the next round...
that is, unless we get a lot of stuff really fast.

hey, with all these people not submitting, I think my chances of going to round 2 are pretty good.

good, indeed. :)

27th August 2003 22:17 UTC

everyone goes to round 2 ;), we're counting total score of a given number of rounds this time. I think we can count on some late-minute presets, some people tend to do it a lot. At least... I hope so :)

27th August 2003 23:32 UTC

No, people are cut from it no matter how many people enter, the less people, the less time the tournament takes.

28th August 2003 04:00 UTC

We are setting the length of the tournament at a fixed number of rounds(5, I believe). People can skip out on rounds, join in after the first round, or quit before the end. The winner is whoever has the highest cumulative total at the end of all of the rounds.

28th August 2003 07:57 UTC

There's a reason assumptions has an ass in it isn't there. ;)

Sounds like a damn good system.

28th August 2003 08:59 UTC

yep, it's gonna work.

28th August 2003 09:24 UTC

I often dream about falling.
thanks to those at FF who helped me out with nitpicky details.

Nice work sidd... that guy really does look like he's plummeting to his doom... could have used some lower camera angles (side view for instance)... and him always falling down and never up from the perspective of the camera.. but hey.. thats just nitpicking. :P

The colours are great too... personally I'd say this is the best submission so far. :)

I'd like to remix this for my next pack if you have no objections.

28th August 2003 11:43 UTC

Soooey. Time should be over now, if i'm right.

We got 10 submissions so far, time for the judges now.

28th August 2003 11:47 UTC

wrong... everyone has 12 hours left.

28th August 2003 12:22 UTC

Cheers J. XD

I did get rid of some of the rotation, ie, anything below the guy. But i wanted to leave it reasonably dynamic. Its hard to tell if i achieved the right effect when im the one making it.

Sure, remix to your hearts desire.

28th August 2003 19:06 UTC

That is so cool Siddhartha! Especially the way his limbs drift back as the guy is falling, kinda like the tentacles effect (with a delay from the center, they lag behind) But that's UnConeD talking;)

Today's the deadline, which means new topic soon! Although I didn't think this topic was that bad, I still don't see what is so bad about it....

:winamp:

28th August 2003 19:51 UTC

i liked the topic

28th August 2003 22:13 UTC

tick tock tick tock

less than 2 hours left

edit: do we get the new topic at midnight? I sure as hell hope so so I can crack on with it. :)

28th August 2003 22:37 UTC

No, we gotta judge first(well, we did last tournament, anyways). I'll talk to ishan though, and see if we can get it out any earlier. Probably won't get it out at 12, but it's almost possible.

28th August 2003 23:09 UTC

okay, this obviously isn't clear, since me and j got in an argument over it (fortunately jaak stepped in and started being a total ass, which fixed everything) - are people getting dropped this round or not? i say they should, i know i'm not participating in it if it isn't going to be a knockout tournament like it was supposed to be...personally i think if you missed the first round, tough cookies. but that's just me...

28th August 2003 23:24 UTC

We decided by a general vote that this wasn't going to be a knockout tournament. People didn't seem to like the knockout tournament - if the first topic wasn't a good topic for them and they made a crap preset, then they could be dropped even if they would have been capable of beating the pants off people in the next rounds. This way, people who may not like the certain theme(you, for instance) still are in good contention, because other people probably won't like the next one. Letting people in after the first round is fine too, because they will have the disadvantage of having not gotten any points for the first round. The winner(s) of the tournament are not going to be selected on average score, but their cumulative score. People who miss out on this round will be behind by a maximum of 30points(if Doggy_Dog is judging as well). That's a severe hinderance to them, but if they do really really well in the next rounds then they could catch up. This method is also better to use in a tournament of this size. In the last tournament, despite its smaller size, we had to hold off on the next round to wait for people on vacation. In this competition it allows for people to leave without us having to wait for them - they get penalized some(although we will still try to get them into the round if it isn't a big difficulty - we did wait for you), but it could become insane if we didn't. Also, with 2 weeks for each round, they would have to be on a LONG trip to not be able to submit anything.

If you don't want to continue in the tournament, then don't. It doesn't make sense to me, but do whatever you want to do. We would like to keep you in it, but we can't change any major rules that we set up before unless everyone agrees.

29th August 2003 04:41 UTC

I'm in the mood for AVS, but I'm waiting for the next round to start, so I have nothing to do but sit here and wait for the next topic. I could work on my pack, I suppose, but I can't work anything out with my presets right now, just having one of those days, you know? :(

29th August 2003 05:21 UTC

yah... i know the feeling.

Go watch a movie instead.
:D

29th August 2003 10:25 UTC

hooh! cool preset sidd. :D
yes we are talking about the topic and hopefully it will be out soon.

29th August 2003 12:59 UTC

can't wait. Love your preset, sidd. Good work. Nice synching.

29th August 2003 15:36 UTC

A'ight I sent my scores, and I think that Ishan will post the next topic soon.

29th August 2003 16:51 UTC

Yeah, the next topic is:
Abstract love
------------------------
Last date for enteries:
13th September 2003
------------------------

29th August 2003 17:36 UTC

You guys better like this topic more than the last one.:p

29th August 2003 17:37 UTC

Hey, jheriko can use his dreaming preset, just add another head. ;)

29th August 2003 17:41 UTC

lmao. Good point raz. :p

30th August 2003 01:26 UTC

rofl

So when do we see the scores?

btw, in anyone gonna put together a bundle for each round, or do we just have to wait for the end. I havnt been getting everyone elses presets cuz im a lazy oaf.

30th August 2003 07:38 UTC

A little on the slow side but worth it if you ask me.

30th August 2003 10:14 UTC

hah...i've got just the preset for this one :D /me will finish it up this week

and yea anubis now that you put it that way i see how it'd work...the reason i wanted it to be a knockout tournament is cos i wouldn't last 'till the last round, and school starts on tuesday (and i'm taking some heavy ass classes). so i might drop out of the tournament anyway...

btw i hate this topic too, it's as lucid as the last one (:p), but i already have a preset that fits it perfectly...does it count? ;)

I was just going to do it at the end, but since I have them all and I can zip them easily - here you go.

30th August 2003 22:52 UTC

This topic is pretty vague too... couldn't we have topics like 'glowing' or 'pulsing' or something that describes a certain type of preset? Not that I'm complaining... this ones a good opportunity for me to knock up some abstract 3D DM/SSC geometry.

31st August 2003 07:44 UTC

:( you all dont like this topic too:( i seriously need to take some art classes.

Anyway the first round scores:

Robotisgod - 27 pts
Nic01 - 24 pts
Siddrtha_one- 23 pts
Jheriko - 22 pts
PixelCraft - 21 pts
Deamon - 20 pts
Raz - 20 pts
Akuso - 20 pts
Atero - 19 pts
Magic.X - 19 pts
Oussy - 18 pts
Horsefly - 18 pts
Super_toast - 18 pts

31st August 2003 10:09 UTC

Yay! I got 20 points :). Don't worry Ishan, you're doing a great job. You should be proud of doing it. Though indeed this topic is also kinda vague. Try making topics like they were in Tournament 1. That were topics which really pointed to a certain style. Oh well, at least I think you're doing just fine. Keep it up!

31st August 2003 13:02 UTC

I'm fifth place? Wow, didn't see that coming....cool:D

[edit]Abstract Love, to me, would be like Jim Manley's "Make Love, Not Presets" preset. Definitely an abstract preset imo.[/edit]

31st August 2003 14:08 UTC

I'm crappy at these vague ideas. Ah well.

31st August 2003 16:14 UTC

Bugger :( At least this one gives you a slight idea what to do - dreams was really, really vague :/
So can I use that preset or not? Do I have to make a new one specifically for this tournament? Even if it hasn't been released?

31st August 2003 18:22 UTC

You can use whatever you want, as long as it is made by yourself. (at least, that's my opinion).

31st August 2003 21:19 UTC

that is a good idea, i could always just upload a preset i did do before.

bwah ha ha

31st August 2003 21:23 UTC

genius... :p

31st August 2003 22:13 UTC

4th... the guy in 4th doesn't even get a medal :( I've got to do something much better in this next round. :p

Robotisgod deserved that high score.. I only just now looked at the preset and it is visually sweet and technically competent... the only problems I have with it are the dm glitches that pop up every now and again and the lack of aspect ratio correction... y=y*w/h; at the beginning will fix this.. I can't see what causes the random glitches tho, great effort!

1st September 2003 03:19 UTC

Tied for last place... That sucks a little bit, but I like this new topic because it has some creative applications I'm making up, and I get to make some cube based preset. Only problem I saw with Robotisgod's DM is that there is a lot of excess baggage that could be taken out. A smart n00b, lucky us.

1st September 2003 17:25 UTC

wow, that's strange. i seem to be winning. i was expecting 3rd or 4th place. don't worry, i'll lose in the end.

3rd September 2003 09:06 UTC

we'll see

3rd September 2003 14:08 UTC

yeah, i'll see..........:D

4th September 2003 10:48 UTC

yeah, you'll see....

:|

5th September 2003 10:08 UTC

Postpumperes :p

I'll see too!

5th September 2003 13:31 UTC

and so will the postpumping me :p

5th September 2003 15:08 UTC

postpumping is bad.

Not that many have been submitted yet - is everone just taking a long time?

5th September 2003 18:43 UTC

yeah post pumping is reaaaally bad :P

..
:|

Oh, methinks that everyone is waiting till everyone else is in. :S

5th September 2003 22:50 UTC

I probably would have fininshed mine by now, but I just spent a few days getting not one, but TWO viruses off my computer (the blaster worm and the nachi worm), and they totally messed up my modem, so now I can only go online at certain times. So I haven't been on the computer much either because I'm just kinda frustrated I guess. I'll probably have to re-install my OS software to get everything back to normal.

But I do have a definite preset now, so that's good :)

6th September 2003 02:58 UTC

I am taking my time because I started school, but you just wait, I got some free time now to make some tight shiznit.

6th September 2003 09:46 UTC

I'm just crap at this type of subject (vague abstract things) so i cranked something out and hoped the next subject is more to my liking.

6th September 2003 13:22 UTC

I'm taking my time cos I have a piffly issue with some superscopes and I refuse to abandon my plans...

Nice Poe reworking Raz. Cracks me up.

6th September 2003 18:47 UTC

taking my time because I've other things on my head at the moment, school just started etc.

7th September 2003 01:41 UTC

ROFL @ Raz' sig

7th September 2003 02:39 UTC

Hmmh?

It's a frickin Bash.org quote. I posted it on #ff, he copied, he quothed.

7th September 2003 02:51 UTC

here.
Now i'm off.
bye!!!

[edit] i should mention that ive used a texer image from Shreyas IV, cheers shreyas :) [/edit]

7th September 2003 03:23 UTC

Nice job siddhartha, ::drool:: I just had to reinstall my winamp and all my plugins and all my AVS becuase of a little thing called the blaster worm, lucky I made a backup save a couple of weeks ago... Now I actually do have to make something up fast, damn virus.

7th September 2003 07:16 UTC

d00d. i had dibs raz. :(

fucked over version of my entry...i'll fix it and repost if i can but i'm running short on time atm...dunno how long i'll be able to stay in :\

<edit> speaking of texers this requires tff3.0-2.bmp from tff3...if you don't have it then you're a FUCKING CUNTASS BITCHWISE QUADROPED. loser. </edit>

7th September 2003 11:37 UTC

Jesus, i never claimed to have dibs, i had it on a text document lying around on my computer and thought it was funny. I don't go on chatrooms and really, who gives a shit? It's funny, end of problem and/or discussion.

7th September 2003 17:42 UTC

i'm waiting for others submissions......

7th September 2003 20:12 UTC

here's my entry.

8th September 2003 01:22 UTC

meh.

I don't want to take the chance and post this next week...

Optimized up to a point where I can't see any more possible optimizations.

Uses Color Map.

8th September 2003 07:06 UTC

lol raz, take a joke man :p
ishan: remember what jheriko said at the beginning of the first round, about how people shouldn't wait for everybody else to submit their presets before they do?

8th September 2003 16:20 UTC

I really have time problems here :(. I can hardly find any time to do AVS, and I find the topic quite hard to make something with. I don''t even have an idea :(. Well, I hope I can come up with something in time.

9th September 2003 12:10 UTC

sigh... couldn't think about anything so i just made a shitty flowpreset-thingy. :(

10th September 2003 00:19 UTC

Not like funny haha, like funny abstract love - mmmhmm. :winamp:

10th September 2003 01:34 UTC

d'oh! forgot to include the texer pic :blah:

11th September 2003 21:23 UTC

Ok, now I'm not proud of this one, but it's the best I can do with this topic.

It's supposed to visualise the feeling when you really love someone, the burning wish inside you to always be with her/him.

And after all, I don't think it even looks that bad :)

11th September 2003 21:24 UTC

and here it is with attachment ;)

(stupid me, punches himself for the head..)

11th September 2003 22:35 UTC

Gaaaaa.. I'm still working on mine... I think I overstretched myself (and AVS) so I'm gonna have to scale it back and rebuild most of it. I'll probably post on the last day. Sorry guys.

11th September 2003 23:32 UTC

meh.. no biggy

12th September 2003 02:07 UTC

Well, It took awhile, but it's finally done. :D

I don't know if you'd really call it abstract... but I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone else go this direction. maybe it's because I'm the only unoriginal one :p

I don't think I've ever done a "flowy" preset before....

12th September 2003 03:24 UTC

If justin releases a new version of AVS within the next week, should we upgrade the conteset to the new version, or just mandate you use the old one?

12th September 2003 03:35 UTC

Just use the old one. I don't think anyone should use anything in the new version until wiamp 5 comes out. Things could definitely change.

12th September 2003 11:50 UTC

Akuso, you have some strange effects in that preset. Using text to create a heart? :igor: That's a crazy preset!

12th September 2003 16:52 UTC

Using text is way faster than using a bitmap, I like it :)

12th September 2003 19:23 UTC

Did I get this right? I can still enter? Well, here we go..

Uses Picture II and Colormap. I had to shrink the image cause it exeeded the allowed attachment size :(

12th September 2003 21:18 UTC

Yes you can enter. w00t-another person.

13th September 2003 00:35 UTC

That's an awesome preset mquadrat! Reminds me of pink floyd (because of the prisms and stuff) :)

Heh, when I first saw that picture you used I was just like "oh man this is gonna be sweet!" :D

13th September 2003 11:54 UTC

Thanks Pixelcraft... And no, you can't have her number ;)

13th September 2003 16:07 UTC

I'm just watching this tournament, I'm not gonna be in it, but when is the deadline for the this round?

13th September 2003 16:58 UTC

about 5 hours from now by my calcs

14th September 2003 07:39 UTC

lol mquadrat, that pic looks like a porn pic cutout.;)

14th September 2003 10:47 UTC

lol, and then it seems to be a picture of his girlfriend ;)

14th September 2003 15:51 UTC

hehe, none of all ;)
Came across this picture on the net once and saved it.. no deeper sense at all...

15th September 2003 23:12 UTC

uhh... the new topic? whatever happened to that?
or the results of round 2 for that matter...

15th September 2003 23:35 UTC

mm yeah. wassa goin on!??!

16th September 2003 00:28 UTC

Next topic: Planet X
Presets should represent some aspect of Planet X(A fictional planet - you create it). This can include the planet, alien species, whatever.

Have fun.

16th September 2003 00:59 UTC

lol these are some great topics  :D

16th September 2003 01:04 UTC

ooooh i like this one

16th September 2003 02:48 UTC

Anyone have the scores from the last round yet?

16th September 2003 04:22 UTC

I sent mine to ishan. He'll post them when he gets them all.

Note: this topic was entirely my own. I haven't discussed it with anyone else, so don't be mad ishan/dogg. You guys get the next one. People just seemed to want the topic now, so I delivered.

16th September 2003 07:22 UTC

Nice topic

16th September 2003 08:30 UTC

ooohh, I like this topic :D. Now let's see what I can do with it.

Is AVS 2.7 allowed? I mean especially the CMo with this.

16th September 2003 10:43 UTC

Deadline?

16th September 2003 11:46 UTC

AVS 2.7 is not allowed since we don't know what changes it may have ahead. Just use stuff that has already been released in a final version.

Deadline is Sept. 29, 2003.

16th September 2003 15:15 UTC

Good topic Anubis! You do a sqr(much) better job than me!:)
Anyway the scores well i'm waiting for doggy dog.

16th September 2003 15:24 UTC

I forwarded them to you I think. I'll do them again to make sure.

16th September 2003 15:32 UTC

yup i got them, but i cant find mquadrat's score in it,(i'll take the average?)

16th September 2003 15:53 UTC

Damn, I forgot that ( I dl'd the preset and everything, but just forgot to write that). Take the average, rounded up :).

17th September 2003 15:06 UTC

Allright then here are the scores(not including previous round scores):

Siddhartha_one - 27
Raz - 23
Nic01 - 23
Pixelcraft - 22
Deamon - 22
Atero - 21
Oussy - 21
Mquadrat - 21
Robotisgod - 20
Akuso - 20

I know most of you'll had trouble making the presets because of the topic(f*ck me).But lets just look ahead.

17th September 2003 15:13 UTC

And after both rounds

Siddhartha_one- 50 pts
Robotisgod - 47 pts
Nic01 - 47 pts
PixelCraft - 43 pts
Raz - 43 pts
Deamon - 42 pts
Akuso - 40 pts
Atero - 40 pts
Oussy - 39 pts
Jheriko - 22 pts
Mquadrat - 21 pts
Magic.X - 19 pts
Horsefly - 18 pts
Super_toast - 18 pts

17th September 2003 15:35 UTC

w00t!

btw, can i have a nice zip for this round pleez?
thanks
:)

17th September 2003 15:55 UTC

Zipola. Picture(Shreyas-IV-somethingorother) and APEs not included.

17th September 2003 16:07 UTC

yay! I'm in sixth place :)

17th September 2003 20:51 UTC

hrmph.... 20? I thought Dance of the Hearts was much better than my submission for round 1, yet they got the same? well I guess its not my call :p

7 of 14, not too shabby.

I think it'll be harder to be original with planet X but I'll do my best :D

18th September 2003 03:05 UTC

I like this topic, I see some flowy nifty goodness on the way. Last place, *smirk*

18th September 2003 03:10 UTC

It helps to submit presets each round - :p

j/k. Submit one this round and you could easily climb in the ranks.

18th September 2003 03:20 UTC

I'm actually happy I'm in last place, or wait a second, that's not exactly how I mean it, but I made a preset for the last round but I made it with the new version using something like 200 variables, :) . I am going to release a simplified version of that preset here hopefully in the next week, it is really spiffy.

18th September 2003 16:19 UTC

I guess we will see a lot texered galaxies... Mhh..

18th September 2003 16:34 UTC

Oh man i have the sweetest idea. Much DM study to be done.

18th September 2003 17:05 UTC

yeah even i have a good one for this.:D:p

18th September 2003 17:13 UTC

5 bucks on it that there'll be a lot of planet's like saturn with a ring, or maybe some like "mission to mars" (UnConeD). I'm working on a very detailed part of the planet ;). At molecule level :D

18th September 2003 17:28 UTC

Hmm, wonder how original people will be able to be. Hopefully they aren't all the same.

18th September 2003 17:40 UTC

This surely won't look like any of the other presets submitted. I promise. And I do't say it's good, I just say it'll be different ;)

18th September 2003 20:51 UTC

Mine will be quite the choice piece of ass, avs wise if my idea comes together. :D

18th September 2003 22:05 UTC

Here is my submission.

It's designed for AVS 2.7 and will not work in any of the lower versions. I know I'm actually not supposed to use it, but I really was in the mood for it, and this is about the best I can do. And then again, most (if not all) of you have avs 2.7 so everybody can see it anyway. My excuses if somebody is really pissed of now because I made this 2.7 preset. I hope the judges will allow it. PLEASE? :)

Please also read the comment, it took me some time to make it up, and without it the preset doesn't make much sense with the topic.

I hope you guys like it :)

[edit]
requires high fps for the explosions to be on the right spot. Pixel doubling is possible in this one, it'll make it only a little bit ugly, but sizes & coords will stay correct.
[/edit]

19th September 2003 00:23 UTC

damn! i missed the deadline.. oh well.. i'll try and be more vigilant about the next round :)

19th September 2003 04:40 UTC

You gotta be jheriko - we need some more good stuff. I really wanna see what you can create on this one.

19th September 2003 06:41 UTC

Slow, old and unreactive. Atleast it looks good :p

19th September 2003 07:32 UTC

i have a feeling that the winner will be the only one who manages to get in a preset for each round. Which, sadly, wont be me.

19th September 2003 07:50 UTC

Who cares about winning :igor: It's not like there is anything to gain from it.

19th September 2003 08:02 UTC

Nice one Tugg, though it looks fast enough here (15 FPS), and with this speed, quite reactive. :)

19th September 2003 08:33 UTC

Please ignore my last post, it had one DM error, here's the new version which works correctly.

19th September 2003 08:34 UTC

And here it is with attachment

20th September 2003 16:48 UTC

ok heres what i got (a remix of one of the crappy presets in my new pack [http://classic.winamp.com/plugins/de...onentId=135880]). i made another version of it for 2.7 just for the hell of it

20th September 2003 17:00 UTC

Maybe this is just my peculiarity, but why can't people name there presets something like auhtorsname-presetname.avs? It makes it a lot easier to keep track of who made what.

20th September 2003 17:01 UTC

it does, supertoast. I don't care too much - I can still figure out who made what, but that would make things easier.

20th September 2003 22:13 UTC

I'll name my further presets like that, no problem :)

21st September 2003 00:04 UTC

ARGHHHHH, fucking raytracing i spent ages on won't support what i want to do. I have to recode the whole thing. Bastards.

</vent>
carry on...

21st September 2003 11:02 UTC

That suckes dude, better luck on your next one.

21st September 2003 13:54 UTC

Hmph, I don't have 2.7 and I don't plan on installing it till it's done (when it comes with Winamp).

21st September 2003 15:26 UTC

Yeah, I just realized Deamon's is for 2.7. I have already said that you can't use anything that is in 2.7 and not the older versions. Deamon, you are going to have to redo that. The main reason I am not allowing it is not because some people don't have it yet, but because it may not be compatible in the future either. I'm pretty sure that we are going to make a pack out of the presets - we need to make sure that all of the presets will be includable. Sorry, Deamon.

21st September 2003 16:20 UTC

grrr.... That's about the best preset I've ever made. Oh well, I hope I can find some inspiration on the next one. Damnit! You make me unhappy :(

21st September 2003 16:28 UTC

Well deamon, you can only blaim yourself for that... pre releases are only ment for testing that it works or doesn't work, they are not ment to be used as the final presets making versions... Hence i strongly suggest that you don't do any more presets with the pre releases! Because you can't really know if something you made with pre3 will work with pre4 or the final version!

21st September 2003 16:52 UTC

Exactly, I thought I had said this enough to let it sink in. You can use that preset in your own pack now - just wait for the final version to come out to make sure it's still compatible.

21st September 2003 22:12 UTC

I do understand it, though I'm not generally happy about it. Oh well, I'll redo the preset with Colormap and random explosions then, can you still look at it a bit as if they were on the right place?

And yes, I know it's me who is to blame, you said it wasn't allowed to use pre-releases earlier.

23rd September 2003 12:27 UTC

Don't worry Deamon, your not the only one. I forgot to go back teh old AVS too ;) I will do that now :D

24th September 2003 06:52 UTC

i decided to see what was up, so i'll deposit some classic Horse-fly. you might remember it from back in early 2002 i think

24th September 2003 15:58 UTC

i'm going to drop out... i don't have time for avs right now. sorry guys.

lots of business to attend to + moving to uni + i have a really cool project i'm working on that just sucks my attention away from everything else.

24th September 2003 16:58 UTC

Well, if you can come back for the next rounds - please do. We wnat some cool presets, and as many as we can get.

24th September 2003 20:57 UTC

ARGH, AVS does not want me to finish this preset. First my whole first idea messes up because the raytracing i did doesn't support full 3d rotation for displaying properly. (Don't ask why, if i knew i'd have fixed it and have finished the idea/still be working on it) And now i have to go back through everything and cock about with shit because of crashing. Dammit.

25th September 2003 03:24 UTC

Wow, this round kinda sucks doesn't it? :D I haven't got much either

[offtopic]Wha, wahauh? Um, Raz you changed your username to Ryan! That's gonna take a while to get used to....[/offtopic]

25th September 2003 04:06 UTC

Yeah, this round does kindof suck..

its funny that as soon as we get a topic everyone likes, noone can seem to make a good prezt.

25th September 2003 08:25 UTC

Oh i can make a good preset, but it requires AVS to not randomly crash while messing with variables. :p

25th September 2003 11:05 UTC

raz...
a) what the fuck is with your name?
b) why the fuck dont you have a senior member (etc) tag?
c) abbey road? =DDDDD

25th September 2003 12:42 UTC

I've tried billions of times to make something out of this, but with no luck. I don't care. I just don't care anymore. Stupid preset is driving me up the wall, and back down again, and back up again, and back down again, and back up again and I don't care anymore!!!

Here ya go.

25th September 2003 13:38 UTC

When was the deadline again?? I should still have 1 week if i'm right...

25th September 2003 14:21 UTC

Raz, get your name back. Raz sounds better than Ryan. And that MOTM is hopefully not truly member of the month? ;)

25th September 2003 15:11 UTC

Deadline is Sept. 29, 2003.

25th September 2003 15:57 UTC

Tis member of the month, and that is my CT. So HA. ;)

It goes when the new member of the month is voted in. Maybe I'll change back then, i just fancied a change for a while. Just for the sake of change.

26th September 2003 09:24 UTC

Here is my second entry for this round. I took out the synched explosions, and the Color Modifier. Now it has a colormap and random explosions. It's a lot simpler, but I hope the judges can look at it a bit, as if the explosions are still at the right place, please? ;)

Hope this scores equally good as the previous AVS2.7pre version

26th September 2003 09:51 UTC

Deamon! Dude!!!

YOU FORGOT TO REMOVE ALL THE $PI's AND ALL THE LINE BREAKS IN YOUR CODE! :p

Next Time: Do Presets for AVS2.6 with AVS2.6, so you'll see wheter it works or not. ;)

I corrected your preset. :D

27th September 2003 15:55 UTC

whoops :P, thanks :)

27th September 2003 17:02 UTC

Line breaks don't need to go for AVS 2.6.

27th September 2003 17:10 UTC

hey thats actually quite nice PixelCraft!:)
btw, Raz sounded much better.

28th September 2003 04:28 UTC

Hey thanks alot Ishan! ;)

28th September 2003 06:53 UTC

Yeah, nice.

God i give up on this idea now, it's just not coming together, i've got bits of code lying around in about 12 different presets that won't go together. I'll take one and make a preset out of it.

28th September 2003 09:58 UTC

oops.. nearly forgot..

crazy clouds and gasses and stuff....

28th September 2003 16:10 UTC

Blah.

29th September 2003 11:50 UTC

Hehe, here is mine and just in time!

I did a lot of coding for this one (compared to my usual presets) so i hope you'll like it. :D

29th September 2003 12:20 UTC

Magic X is the winner. :D

But I thought you couldn't use PI in your presets because it was a variable for the new AVS?

29th September 2003 13:10 UTC

Thnx PC! :D:D:D

I made this in 2.7 first and had to change it back.
So i changed $PI into PI and set PI=asin(1)*2 on init.

Worked fine ;)

So far for my first 3D preset.:blah:

29th September 2003 15:23 UTC

the presets just get worse and worse...prolly gonna drop out after this round.................

29th September 2003 19:09 UTC

well. This is it. I basically copied the idea off unconed and was going to develop it further. But tough i suppose. I don't expect points for originality anyway.

edit: wrong attatchment
edit2: forgot picture
edit3: fucking attatchment size limits

29th September 2003 23:23 UTC

I still don't like that it's very very much like UnConeD...

30th September 2003 03:50 UTC

Well - I think that's the end of this round.

30th September 2003 08:46 UTC

results results results! :p And the topic for next round :)

please...

So how does everybody felt about this round. It wasn't really THAT bad, was it?

30th September 2003 09:18 UTC

The topic was ok and i like what i made out of it.

I expected more high quality presets from others but i have'nt seen anything really impressive.

Nic's and R(y)a(n/z) are nice. The latter one seems to be a bit buggy and snaps from one view to another one.

Let's see what's up for next round. :)

30th September 2003 11:56 UTC

hey, wtf's with everyone? we need presets!

30th September 2003 16:11 UTC

lol, this way I'm going for 1st place :)

1st October 2003 00:11 UTC

HOLY CRAP!

I thought it was due the 30th!
I'm still not finished though... I wanted to have the camera circle around and go through different angles but DM/SSC syncing is damn hard stuff... I also wanted to have little "X" rock formations in the background...

You remember in those LooneyToons when Daffy duck was "Duck Dodgers?" Well I wanted to make a preset where he comes in on his crash landing and skips across the ground before smashing into something.

1st October 2003 11:53 UTC

Hope everybody will have some better timing next round ;)

1st October 2003 21:14 UTC

Topic?

1st October 2003 21:44 UTC

Yes I agree! :D

My is topic wait long time! My ask please post new topic now! :D

I'm in a weird mood today........

2nd October 2003 14:18 UTC

oops... forgot to make a preset for last round :(
too much school and stuff. i'm dropping out of the tournament, sorry...

2nd October 2003 14:37 UTC

In 007 mood?! :igor:

2nd October 2003 21:44 UTC

Off the top of my head:

The next topic will be: flight
Good topic for some killer looking DMs, but DMs aren't required - anyone should be able to make something interesting. Make it unique.

Note to other judges: if you want to overrule my topic, go ahead. :p

Deadline is October 16, 2003

2nd October 2003 21:50 UTC

Hey cool UnConeD got a new avatar! :D

(not that it really matters much, but still looks nice;))

2nd October 2003 22:03 UTC

flight...I can do something with this :) Give me some time. I'll have something in a week. Good luck everyone, and keep it up!

Btw. What are the scores from last round?

3rd October 2003 09:34 UTC

I'd like to join this one too.. I missed the last one due to lack of forum visiting.

3rd October 2003 12:58 UTC

you go ahead :)

4th October 2003 18:08 UTC

My submission for this round:

And when the fuck will those scores come? Damn, this is getting dull here :(. Is everyone still enjoying this here? I am, if there would be somewhat more enthusiasm again. Am I the only one, or what?

btw. Nice preset, Akuso

5th October 2003 07:14 UTC

*waits impatiently for last week's results*

5th October 2003 15:31 UTC

Still sixth :)

5th October 2003 16:17 UTC

Still last, I am going to finish a preset this time!

5th October 2003 16:21 UTC

Oh, that's so sad, about 3/4 of presets will crash AVS 2.7 =(
Gotta reinstall Winamp.

5th October 2003 16:24 UTC

I didn't have that problem...

5th October 2003 18:20 UTC

Blargh, just 2 more points XD

Let's see if I can accomplish something that I want this round...

5th October 2003 21:06 UTC

Already did mine :) How does everybody like it? Btw. Yay! I got my pack on wa.com :D

7th October 2003 13:27 UTC

phew...
i thought noone would like that preset..
its not really my normal sort of thing...
anyways.. lessee what'll happen now..

good luck to ya nic :D

7th October 2003 14:17 UTC

Yay, i got a great idea for this round. Unfortunately this will require heavy coding.

*grabs AVS coding book*

Lets see if i can do that. :)

7th October 2003 15:09 UTC

Me wants a coding book as well :(

Once I'm good I'm gonna write it, might come in handy.

9th October 2003 13:43 UTC

wish you all best luck for this round :p

9th October 2003 21:15 UTC

I would be a much happier person if there was an official AVS coding book available in bookstores. :sigh:....:(

9th October 2003 22:09 UTC

yeh, that would be so awesome. With all the stuff like 3D scoping and raystracing etc. in it. I now got the clue of 3D scopes, though I can't do shit with DM's, and don't even know what Raytracing is, where everybody talks about :(.

9th October 2003 22:36 UTC

Look - there are no books about AVS coding, but there are books about raytracing, 3D stuff, and a lot of other useful physics and math books. You just have to look around. One good book is "Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus" by Andre LaMothe. He is coming out with another one in the series(acutally - it may already be out...) which will go into a lot of 3D topics - supposedly. This will probably include raytracing and raycasting as well as other cool techniques such as shading, light, and shadows. Not to mention collisions and other physics stuff. His first book really helped me out a lot - it has some cool stuff with rotation and such that can really help and he presents in a very understandable manner.

You just have to know where to look - there are plenty of other books out there - this was just an example.

10th October 2003 00:45 UTC

Hey cool I didn't know that stuff actually existed! Heh...thanx anubis :D

Ok I got mine here - I like it :) I had to borrow a DM from skupers, except I changed it a little.

10th October 2003 14:51 UTC

Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus" by Andre LaMothe
have to check that out.
wonder if it will be available in india.....

10th October 2003 15:07 UTC

www.amazon.com

10th October 2003 15:16 UTC

 I knew it. but i meant whether if it will be available in the bookstalls here.:)

10th October 2003 15:40 UTC

you're from India? Now that's far away from here :)

11th October 2003 06:28 UTC

yeah, i'm one of the very few people here from india. Shreyas was one....

11th October 2003 21:18 UTC

Here are some good sites
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/
Go into the graphics section and try going into the general section. Intro to 3D Graphics Programming series is really good for learning stuff about scanline graphics.
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/art...article795.asp
Those can teach you a bit about rotation too.

This is a pretty damn good site about raytracing.
http://fuzzyphoton.***********/
The reference always helps me out

This one might help you out a bit too
http://www.2tothex.com/raytracing/index.html
It works in C++ but you can follow the algebra stuff if you dont know C++

Here's a really good site that explains a lot of stuff pretty well.
http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~mrmeanie/algos.htm
Perspective, matrix math, little bit about raytracing polygons and crap.

This is a nice site about vectors if you need a refresher for learning how to work with lighting.
http://www.planetquake.com/quark/inf...h.vectors.html
You need to know how to manipulate vectors for lighting.

This is a pretty cool site just to see surfaces for raytracing and what not.
http://wims.unice.fr/~xiao/gallery/

Uhh yeah that should give you guys enough to chew on for a while. GameDev is REALLY good for learning stuff.

12th October 2003 21:11 UTC

wow, nice list :) thx for it.

13th October 2003 06:28 UTC

Anytime. Let me know if you want more.

13th October 2003 17:06 UTC

Can you post some links to pages that I can easily use for my avs math knowledge? I have a knowledge level of approximately zero. I found the second link very useful though. And I know a tiny bit about 3D/2D conversion. Raytracing is still to hard for me. Some low-level math, that can be easily implemented in AVS would be great. Thanks in advance.

<edit>
Perhaps something that I can use in the DM. The only thing I can do (and understand) is making a random rotation, or a movement to left and right (and up and down). So that's about nothing as well.
</edit>

13th October 2003 20:56 UTC

Well lets see...

Uhh you'll wanna know lots of trig if you want to do some real nice DMs and SSCs.
http://www.catcode.com/trig/index.html

so with you can do TONS of things with just that basic knowledge from that site. You just have to think of weird ways to implement it all. So say you wanted to make the screen to wave up and down or something. Sine and cosine act in waves! So lets think it through. If we want it to wave up and down then the X axis is left alone so...

x=x;

Now we want the Y values to move up and down from their original position in terms of the X axis value. So we take the original value of y and add the sine of the x value...

x=x;
y=y+sin(x);

It's a wave. Now say we want it to actually move in a wave. Well that means we have to some how change the value inside the sine function. So lets create a new variable 't'. We'll define t in the frame section. Try out t=t+.01; Now we need to add that into the value inside the sine function so we get...

t=t+.01
--------------
x=x;
y=y+sin(x+t);

Yeah good ole' trig. Most cool movements will some how come back to trig so I'd suggest starting there. Once you've played around with that a lot you really showed start learning about vectors. They are incredibly useful. Read up on dot products and cross products and what they do. Then you can get into to some really cool stuff.

http://www.math.com/
http://www.physicsclassroom.com/
Those two have some useful information on them too. What else are you looking for?

13th October 2003 21:34 UTC

Wow thanks, I'll chew on that for quite some time now :). Thanks for it, it has been a great help for me. Could you btw please reply to my radians and degrees question in the troubleshooting forum? Would help me a lot further again ;)

13th October 2003 22:36 UTC

Yep. Go check it out.

BTW how come you dont you just render text instead of all those superscopes?

13th October 2003 22:45 UTC

ehm... good question ;).

Ok, I worked on that url you gave me, and I fully understand that part now. The example helped a lot as well. I now have the feeling like: wow, I know some math, great. ... Now what? I find it hard to visualise what I want in my head, and sometimes when I come up with something, it always looks to hard for me to solve. So, now I understand this, what's next to study? And to aply on AVS?

I really appreciate your great effort in helping me along. I hope I'm not annoying you. Thanks.

13th October 2003 23:00 UTC

If I was annoyed I wouldn't be helping you.

Umm let's see... Do you fully understand everything from that trig site?
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/art...article796.asp
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/art...article797.asp

Those are worth reading through a few times till you fully understand them.

13th October 2003 23:14 UTC

oh yeah you should learn about polar coordinates.

http://www.ies.co.jp/math/java/calc/...k/sg_kyok.html
http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorial...ar_coords.html

That second one should give you some really cool ideas you could do!
Try reading up on cylindrical coordinates.

http://mathforum.org/dr.math/faq/for...lindrical.html

You could also check out spherical coordinates.

http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~jenolive/polar.html
http://cs.jsu.edu/mcis/faculty/leath...spherical.html

15th October 2003 21:22 UTC

I don't mean to sound rude, but:

1. Maybe you guys could make a different thread to post all of this in, this one is for the AVS tournament and it's getting a little too much off the topic imo....

2. Where is everyone? We've only got like 2 or 3 presets! Probably due to school and stuff......

15th October 2003 21:38 UTC

1) I agree
2) Give people time - there is still a little bit

15th October 2003 22:31 UTC

1. I agree that this is irrelevant, I'll post my next questions in a new topic. Sorry for the inconvience.

2. I dunno what's wrong. I uploaded my preset in, say 2 days or so. I hope people will come up with some presets tommorow, since the deadline is then :S.

15th October 2003 23:01 UTC

hey, i didn't even realize that you guys posted a new topic

16th October 2003 09:16 UTC

i dont want to seem like a party-pooper, but i wont be getting one in this round.

16th October 2003 12:29 UTC

I can't seem to come up with anything myself, i'll try and hash at least something together for tomorrow though.

16th October 2003 13:24 UTC

Deadline is today, I suggest we delay it three days so people can still do some stuff. Good to see you got your name back Raz :)

16th October 2003 15:31 UTC

delay granted - presets accepted until 10-19

16th October 2003 16:56 UTC

OK, I would appriciate if a mod cut and pasted all posts from UIUC85's "Here are some good sites" post to his "oh yeah you should learn about polar coordinates" post in a new thread (including those 2 posts of course :) ). IMO, the name of the thread should be the subject of the first post ("Here are some good sites"). A sticky would be nice too.

16th October 2003 19:10 UTC

 :)

16th October 2003 21:03 UTC

I agree to that, it's a good list. I especially liked the ones on GameDev, they're really easy to understand, and help you out a lot.

17th October 2003 07:37 UTC

My original idea for this tournament got fucked up so i had to think up something new.
Here you go! :D

18th October 2003 03:26 UTC

gah... grumble grumble :hang:

ok!

I finally got off being grounded from the computer! (yay)
but I don't have anyting good to submit. (boo)
but I do have on old preset lying around that I could spruce up! (yay)
I don't really feel like it. (boo)
Its not a very fresh idea either (boo)
so here it is anyway

Im gonna stop it now (yay)
:D

18th October 2003 03:31 UTC

and this would be the preset WITH the picture file
ya know... if you want it.

18th October 2003 11:55 UTC

grounded from the computer? Ai, I had that once. You lucky guys who never had that really don't want to know what it's like.

18th October 2003 15:03 UTC

Happens to me all the time :p

18th October 2003 16:40 UTC

my entry part 1
i need to submit this in 2 parts because its too big

18th October 2003 17:12 UTC

part 2 of my entry
convert the jpeg to a bitmap with the same name so the preset can use it

18th October 2003 23:43 UTC

Awesome preset there Robotisgod! :)

20th October 2003 10:09 UTC

yeah thats a nice one.

20th October 2003 10:28 UTC

Time's up, give us some scores, judges :)

20th October 2003 15:39 UTC

(btw in case nobody's noticed i'm out of this tournament...eeee.)

21st October 2003 06:35 UTC

Thanks for announcing Atero. :p
Btw, robotisgods preset always seems to crash my winamp. May this be related to wa5 /avs2.7pre8??? Anyone esle having trouble with this?

22nd October 2003 03:51 UTC

Come on judges, the deadline was two days ago! Post some results! Thank you :D

22nd October 2003 05:26 UTC

I have sent my scores in and I am going to let one of the others choose the topic this time - I am out of ideas.

23rd October 2003 10:22 UTC

Results are here!
Akuso - 27
Deamon - 21
Magic - 22
Pixel - 20
Robotisgod - 28(gave the average marks for anubis, he said it crashes on his machine)

Topic??well i'm out of ideas as well(doggy?)

23rd October 2003 10:24 UTC

lol. some totals please?

23rd October 2003 10:32 UTC

Now give us a new topic please ;)

23rd October 2003 18:50 UTC

New Topic: Winter Fun
Dumb, I know, but that was the first thing I thought of.
The deadline is: 15.11.2003

23rd October 2003 22:06 UTC

yay! I'm tied for third place, that's 3 places up :D (please don't say the people above me didn't submit, and are therefor now below me ;)).

Winter fun. I'm sure I can do something with that :) Hope lot's of submissions will come again this round. Keep it up people.

23rd October 2003 22:46 UTC

I am going to finish a preset for this round! I just decided, :).

24th October 2003 12:13 UTC

This is a tough topic! I got a bunch of ideas but all pretty hard.

24th October 2003 14:28 UTC

yep, same problem over here :p

25th October 2003 15:10 UTC

Is that how you write the date in Croatia? Cuz we Americans would do it like 11-15-2003. lol, I was just thinking "what the heck is the 15th month?!?!"

This tournament reminds me of the tortoise and the hare. The fastest people are the hares (in this case the best AVS-ers) but the slowest poeple are the tortoises (in this case the not-so-the-best AVS-ers). The hare drops out of the tournament frequently while the tortoise never drops out, and ends up winning. :D:p

25th October 2003 16:36 UTC

lol, yep. I got the date like 15-11-2003 as well :). We'll see who wins.

26th October 2003 01:51 UTC

And there is me, I suck at AVSing and am way to lazy to every finish my presets! Just you see though, I am going to publish a couple in my upcoming pack, I can hardly wait...

27th October 2003 16:50 UTC

I've generally stopped doing enything until the final version of the new AVS. I'm getting impatient.

27th October 2003 16:55 UTC

Just to pass time, you should try Texer II, raz :), it's great.

31st October 2003 13:08 UTC

come one people!! get your lazy asses to do some work!;):p

31st October 2003 13:24 UTC

All my ideas are to difficult for me to do, so I don't have anything yet :(

31st October 2003 22:13 UTC

No ideas, god i'm so unmotivated lately. I blame dungeon keeper. Oh well, back to dungeon keeper. ;)

2nd November 2003 16:10 UTC

my submission:

Winternight snowballs :D

2nd November 2003 16:49 UTC

Nice scopework, it's not exactly runnable on "old" AVS, but I got it to work.

2nd November 2003 17:20 UTC

lemme guess, i forgot all the line-breaks,, :p sorry about that.

2nd November 2003 17:22 UTC

Deamon: you don't need to remove linebreaks for the old AVS.

2nd November 2003 17:27 UTC

You left $pi in on a few. And i still have no ideas, damn.

3rd November 2003 14:13 UTC

nice work. but idea stolen from jheriko-The art of spheres ??

3rd November 2003 17:15 UTC

no. Though I have a never published preset which looks a awfully lot like The art of spheres. this one is by myself though.

4th November 2003 05:49 UTC

hey i was just guessing. anyway i like the color combo you used there.

4th November 2003 11:41 UTC

no worries mate :). It used to be red-white-blue. That sucked hard. After that it was brown-orange-red-yellow. That was better, though fire-colors can be used a lot better (see my wallpaper thread in the presets section). So now it's this color setup :).

6th November 2003 12:22 UTC

and I'm out of this one......crap. I might come back later.

btw - I'm running at 7.2 kbs right now. aren't I lucky.

6th November 2003 12:59 UTC

:p I'm running at 1Mbit/sec in 2 weeks :). My cable company decided to put the speed up again :D.

7th November 2003 21:39 UTC

I didn't get anything to work for this round - i'll pass out, as i lack ideas, just as Raz does.

8th November 2003 00:54 UTC

my entry
its got a lot of stuff going on

8th November 2003 23:37 UTC

now that is f*cking nice :). Great job Robotisgod. Holy crap, those moving squares inside the main squares... dude, this is cool :).

9th November 2003 13:43 UTC

ooooh! you rock man!:D I like blue:D:)

17th November 2003 15:00 UTC

Well - they are definitely due by now. Not that many submissions...

17th November 2003 15:06 UTC

I'm just slow because the official new avs release is near. Once that's out, the avsing spree will begin. :D

17th November 2003 15:42 UTC

nope :(. The results?

18th November 2003 12:28 UTC

let's postpone the results till next monday, maybe someone will post a preset (2 is 2 little)

18th November 2003 14:19 UTC

ok, I hope some people'll still submit.

18th November 2003 15:51 UTC

Wow, i didn't realise it was that bad, i threw at least something together:

18th November 2003 16:09 UTC

nice one, raz :)

25th November 2003 16:00 UTC

Hmm, it's tuesday, maybe a new topic.

25th November 2003 18:12 UTC

No idea, it's someone else's turn now ;). Let's make this "next topic" the last one.

26th November 2003 02:37 UTC

we still going are we.. cool!
i might jump on the wagon again.

26th November 2003 03:13 UTC

me too :)

26th November 2003 06:54 UTC

Me too if we get a good topic. :)

26th November 2003 07:45 UTC

cool, count me in :). Some results from last round, and totals please?

26th November 2003 08:07 UTC

doggy send your results to me .:)(anubis has already sent them)

26th November 2003 19:08 UTC

yeah... I kinda whimped out there.... I'll do something for the last one though

27th November 2003 03:05 UTC

ho the results are here -
Raz - 29
Robotisgod - 29
Deamon - 24

27th November 2003 07:42 UTC

New Topic plz ...

Unfortunately we're not allowed to use new stuff :(

27th November 2003 14:32 UTC

i'll give the topic this time(be nice!):
Visualizing Music

Last Date for entry -
Thursday,11 December, 2003

27th November 2003 14:39 UTC

that's about everything :p

27th November 2003 14:54 UTC

yes thats about everything, you have to make a presets that visualizes music in a good way, like spectrums and beat responsive presets.

27th November 2003 16:01 UTC

Ok... NOW i have an idea. :D

27th November 2003 18:12 UTC

I played since i saw the topic. I may or may not update:

28th November 2003 13:37 UTC

hehe cool Raz!

29th November 2003 10:25 UTC

Now, I have a great preset for this, though I'm going to put it in my new pack. SO I'm not releasing it yet. Annoying that I have to make something else up now :S. :p

30th November 2003 12:00 UTC

Here's my submission:

This preset is made for resolutions above 500x400. If your shitty computer can't pull that off, lower the n in both the superscopes till the brightness lowers. How much is up to you :).

1st December 2003 04:01 UTC

Unknown Render Object

APE: AVS 2.8+ Effect List Config
Config Size: 12 ...
---------------------------------------------------------------

wow I better get started, i didn't know there was a new topic already

1st December 2003 12:52 UTC

lol, and I didn't even do something new with the playlists. Just normal config. :s

1st December 2003 14:00 UTC

nice one deamon! well get going guys!

2nd December 2003 22:35 UTC

thank you :)

8th December 2003 03:04 UTC

my entry.
just some volume-responsive swirling with a layering effect.
it's really hypnotic.:igor:

8th December 2003 17:11 UTC

Nice one :)

12th December 2003 14:03 UTC

time up?

12th December 2003 16:09 UTC

Hmph, too few presets... wait till Monday ?

13th December 2003 02:06 UTC

you can forget about me.....i can't get anything this time.

17th December 2003 18:54 UTC

....

I... uh... inadvertently

lied.

20th December 2003 18:43 UTC

Anything?

21st December 2003 10:15 UTC

scores?

22nd December 2003 23:09 UTC

scores??

23rd December 2003 04:43 UTC

I sent my scores to Ishan...

23rd December 2003 09:18 UTC

Me too, maybe 3-4 days ago.

30th December 2003 16:21 UTC

Well, are we getting any results or what? It's been about a week now.

1st January 2004 13:05 UTC

Umm, has anyone seen Ishan around ?

1st January 2004 13:52 UTC

nope, wonder where he is. Maybe on christmas holiday or so?

8th January 2004 10:18 UTC

Dogg: your sig has become inactive

12th January 2004 12:16 UTC

i'm sorry i had caught viral fever for the past two-three months but i'm back in buisness now:)

13th January 2004 15:53 UTC

Ai, that's not good. Ah well, welcome back :D. Now give us the results! :p (j/k, take it easy until you're fully healthy again).

13th January 2004 18:43 UTC

Yeah, I know, should be back online soon tho.

WB Ishan !!

17th January 2004 10:38 UTC

i'm currently at a cyber cafe , so i need to go quickly maybe i'll give the results 2morrow ;)

17th January 2004 16:12 UTC

can't wait :).

26th January 2004 18:10 UTC

this is taking forever

27th January 2004 15:32 UTC

yeh :S, I want those results.

15th February 2004 20:00 UTC

oh man, still nothing

16th February 2004 08:03 UTC

Nope, but keep asking. They're bound to reply sometime. I didn't make that preset for nothing. But Ishan is still away. I guess we just have to be patient, and revive this thread every month or so....

16th February 2004 20:48 UTC

Sorry about this everyone - I know you are anxious to get the results.

18th February 2004 13:28 UTC

Oh i'm so sorry, really i am still not 100% fit, but i'll give you those results:
Deamon - 24pts
Raz - 23pts
robotisgod - 23pts

19th February 2004 00:25 UTC

ooh - it was close.

19th February 2004 04:39 UTC

yeah, so who's doing the total score?

19th February 2004 08:08 UTC

oooh! yay! I actually won a round. :D

20th February 2004 06:53 UTC

hehe:D your preset was quite nice.

20th February 2004 11:10 UTC

thank you :D
