is there any way to...
is there any way to have your desktop be one avs, but be lookign at a different avd in winamp?

No. AVS desktop overlay doesn't support that.

You may be able to run multiple instances of winamp(WA3 will let you do this I believe), and you could have one of them overlaying to the desktop while the other one is just outputting in the avs window. Don't know how(or if) that would work, though.

You can also run multiple instances of Winamp2. Right click -> Options -> Preferences and then in the Preferences screen Options and then check "Allow multiple instances". But I don't think you could run then in sync, unless you find a way to start the same song in both winamps at the same time. And ofcourse, both presets would be twice as slow.

Umm, go to the 2nd winamp, and add the URL of "linein://" then route your soundcard record input to "mixer out" or along those lines, it *does* work, but you'll need to fiddle with the sound output settings to prevent smaple conversion.
