Wow...excellent!

18th July 2003 02:13 UTC

seriously kids, download this now. Makes my life a whole lot simpler.

Thanks Jan!

18th July 2003 03:35 UTC

i think i'll stick to stick to my ubercustom installers...but i would like to see the source for it :F good job tho jan, now NOBODY HAS AN EXCUSE TO NOT USE AN NSIS INSTALLER (like they had one before...:hang: )

18th July 2003 06:46 UTC

YES. THIS IS GREAT. I LOVE YOU. I CAN'T FIGURE OUT NSIS AT ALL. :up: :up: :up: :up: :up: :up: :up: :up:

Thanks for making my day! :)

You`re the man,man! This is an über tool!

18th July 2003 14:03 UTC

Pimpbot gets 5 stars from me, definately a very useful tool for all the n00bs, morons and lazy people out there, and very clever use of NSIS to make the thing in the first place.

It must of taken some time to make considering what NSIS code is like for doing anything other than copying files.

Nice job ! though it would be cool to add more than one AVS dir to installer. i.e if I'd pimp d+ with this I'd have to do three installers (1 for each part)

18th July 2003 18:35 UTC

on feature adding... it might be good if you could make it generate a script instead of just an exe, this way it is useful to the custom script writers as well..

the latest version (1.0.4) has this feature. just click the checkbox on the bottom (yes, next major version definitely needs a new layout!).

to get this to work properly put the subdirs (using the desired names for installation!) in an empty dir and select this in the AVS Directory dialog.

ps: will hopefully not touch this for a while, since i might be on holiday from tomorrow on. it's gonna be a spontaneous decision.

So for once my packs will have an installer :D
Good job man, good job...

19th July 2003 02:10 UTC

really, really nice :) great work jan ;)

WOnderfull!

Excellent program, but I really wish I could add extra APEs. Or even better, I'd like to be able to see the actual script as jheriko suggested. Until that happens, I'm not sure I'll be able to use it. Still, a great start, and it does exactly what it says it does very efficiently!

22nd July 2003 01:55 UTC

You can (i think): just put the extra APEs in your images/video section. It should work (although it might take only .bmp and .avi files). What extra APEs do you want to include? this has most of them covered.

22nd July 2003 08:26 UTC

Hehe, great idea. Could have needed this as i started to figure out nsis. But if you once got your own templates, you will rather prefere them. :)

15th September 2003 04:02 UTC

PimpBot v1.1.0 RC2
* updated layout
* supports multiple scripts
* additional/updated APEs
* new default script

still couldn't implement font-support, since i'd require a plugin for nsis which can read the font-name from a font-file.

also i want to point out, why people can't simply pick their own APEs or update the exisiting ones. the reason lies in the security i want to provide with pimpbot. if it had the features mention above, one could install APEs containing malicious code. using pimpbot is so to speak a quality/security predicate.

report bugs in the visbot forum.

the final version will be released, once yet unknown bugs were eliminated and after the release of nsis 2 beta 4.

the current version requires nsis 2 beta 3, it does not yet work with the current cvs or upcoming versions.

15th September 2003 05:31 UTC

i seriously see a flaw in your logic here jan. if someone could code an ape that contained malicious code (and yes they'd have to code it theirselves; you'd be hard pressed to find an ape virus anywhere in the first place), then they could quite easily make their own nsis script for it.
aside from that, i think you're being far too paranoid. avs is not the distribution method of choice for neonazi virus writers anymore.

15th September 2003 06:59 UTC

Atero, but you tech freakies are pretty close to that :p (stupid ass neonazi virus writers... :blah: )

then i dont have to worry about any legal consequences.

don't like it? don't use it!

16th September 2003 21:57 UTC

ooohhh! I like it :). Previous versions somehow didn't make the .exe file on my comp, but this one does :D. I love it.

PimpBot v1.1.0 RC3
* requires NSIS 2 Beta 4
* Winamp 5 ready
* minis script should work now
* minor fixes

please, to see that this version is free of bugs, i need you people to test it. install NSIS 2.0 Beta 3, then download the nightly build of NSIS 2.0 Beta 4 and unzip it to your NSIS installation path. this version of pimpbot will *not* work with old NSIS 2 betas!

how you can help me:
* test the script using both of the default scripts (hybridis and minis)
* try the features you would use for your personal installer
* try the features you would never use for your personal installer
* post bugs here or at the official forum

since i havn't experienced any bugs in this version, i gave it free for public testing, considering it works. anyway, the final version will be available shortly after the release of the final (beta 4?) of NSIS 2. i also consider waiting for unconed to fix his colormap and texer APEs :p

todo:
* use external APE files (maybe)
* html documentation
* fix yet unknown bugs

21st September 2003 18:21 UTC

lol - that's a great double post. 15 minutes apart. :p

21st September 2003 18:38 UTC

lol, well, mod can remove both posts, they aren't exactly helping anyubody :p

But true be that i was surfing smewhere else and then i wanted to go back to the forums so i clicked previous, and then it displayed" This page is old" so i hit rehfresh..... :hang: :(

22nd September 2003 02:18 UTC

PimpBot v1.1.0 RC3 does not handle the install-dir properly. it's recommended to keep using RC2.

23rd September 2003 03:53 UTC

yea well fuck you too jan :p
i just don't like the idea of people going halfway with something because they're worried about something stupid.

#1: NOBODY is going to program an .APE virus, hence
#2: NOBODY is going to sue you over it. And
#3: if someone does program a virus and distributes it with pimpbot, victims can't even make a good case about how it's your fault. It'd be about as effective as suing Borland because they make the compiler O Dickhead used to make his ickle trojan. (However, I honestly would like to see them sue AOL cos they own the rights to Winamp/AVS and win; not only would this be fucking hilarious, it'd also mean that we could sue Microshaft over the Blaster virus.)

25th September 2003 19:55 UTC

Atero's right. There's no logical argument for preventing external .APEs. Anyone capable of making malicious code execute via AVS or it's components doesn't require a front end for NSIS with features specific to AVS installers. I'd equate the logic of not allowing this with tool manufactures not producing a tool like a nail gun because it *could* be used as a weapon. I can use a pencil to stab a person's eye out. Does that mean that person or his family can sue Shelbyville Pencil Company? (that's a real pencil company [and the name of Springfield's sister-town in the Simpsons ;) ]) Well, I supposed they could try to bring suit against them, but I doubt they'd even be allowed to go to court, let alone be capable of winning.

25th September 2003 21:44 UTC

good argument Gonzo. I agree to Gonzo AND Atero.

25th September 2003 23:21 UTC

This software is Big Pimpin!

26th September 2003 01:48 UTC

If you're that worried about malicious code, then implement a digital signature and watermarking system, with MD5 encryption. So that say, a user downloads a 'Zevensoft AVS Pack' it can check online and send it's signature (encoded via public key) to a central server, which can send a return (encoded via private key) which says "Verified Zevensoft Product" or summin like that.

26th September 2003 05:42 UTC

Zevensoft, sounds cool otherwise, but all of us still don't have any kind of internet connection :igor: How am i going to be able to install anything then? hmm?

26th September 2003 06:21 UTC

Have a verification option.

26th September 2003 06:35 UTC

Phew, i thought im going blind since i really didn't see any other posts mentioning anything about any options :igor: :p

28th September 2003 19:36 UTC

let's see if PimpBot v1.1.0 RC4 works.

It does, you just gotta select a large folder(I used aoe2). That's how i got it :D

Choose a folder really big and then goto this folder C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\YITMP (for xp), or just download the file at the bottom.

30th September 2003 12:45 UTC

PimpBot v1.1.0 RC5
* fixed directory detection
* fixed license page

the closer the release of winamp 5 comes, the more i'm asking myself, if there is still the need to support winamp 3.

hint for pure-krypton: the more elegant way of getting both scripts would be downloading them from the nsis archive - lol

1st October 2003 22:38 UTC

Yathosho: might as well if you wrote the code
