AVS 2.6 released
AVS 2.6.0 was released with the Winamp 2.9 Beta, haven't checked out what has improved yet.

haven't seen anything new yet :( (besides docking)...

21st March 2003 22:26 UTC

Cool.Lets test it...First thing to check out : how many times does it crash winamp :)

21st March 2003 22:40 UTC

I didnt see anything new... meaby we now have more variables or subdirs or something

21st March 2003 23:06 UTC

No sub-directories...

21st March 2003 23:42 UTC

the only new thing i discovered (so far), the avs window is no longer skinned by my winamp 2.x skin

22nd March 2003 00:17 UTC

maybe its worked out some of the bugs like seeing the set render modes in the right place, stuff like that.

22nd March 2003 00:33 UTC

A few (VERY FEW) bugs worked out...
Better beat detection...

...Snapped windowsize, meaning no more fixing of slide-up-left empty DM problem and no more 300x300 res :( :( :( :( :(

22nd March 2003 01:18 UTC

IT DIDNT CRASHED AT SOME PRESETS ! It is great , though it doesnt have anything visible new...

22nd March 2003 08:46 UTC

Well, see the thing in positive light: they updated it ! not much but atleast they showed that some progress is happening. We should be thankful for that and stop whining about everything !

22nd March 2003 12:40 UTC

Totally right Blazer, though I was wondering if it also works with Winamp3?

22nd March 2003 13:24 UTC

Gee, looks like nullsoft have really listened to the wishlist

22nd March 2003 14:54 UTC

i woudlnt really critisise nullsoft when you're using their forums, getting their free product and spending countless hours using a piece of software that they made that you use for free. They've probably just started to update avs and are releasing as they go along.

22nd March 2003 15:28 UTC

And hey, AVS 2.6 crashes on my machine! Hooray for windows 98 support.

22nd March 2003 19:58 UTC

raz, i'd rather have avs3 and no forums than forums that don't do any good.

22nd March 2003 20:21 UTC

yes but my point was that nullsoft dont have a duty to make avs3 just because we want it.

22nd March 2003 21:36 UTC

it started to crash for no reason here too.I run WinXP.After some time of utilisation it just exits,no error no nothing!

23rd March 2003 00:54 UTC

I don't like 2.6.0 either- no skin support, and the stupid snapping window sizes

23rd March 2003 06:02 UTC

Mine just loads the window and crashes.

23rd March 2003 09:26 UTC

the avs window is now skinned by the new gen.bmp which is also used to skin the media library

23rd March 2003 10:02 UTC

Anyone notice, That its 2.9 beta, That means they're probably still doing work onit, Even AVS.

23rd March 2003 12:01 UTC

Even a BETA should at least START UP WITHOUT CRASHING COMPLETELY!

is there a (new) template or do i simply have to rename the old .bmp?

23rd March 2003 13:27 UTC

three completely new bmps: skinbits.zip

note: skinbits.zip is inofficial, the bmps might change until the final release of winamp 2.9

23rd March 2003 16:12 UTC

Something is wrong, the preset what had 6-7 FPS before has now 17-18 FPS, this is spooky, or is it just about me, i used winamp3 before

Winamp 3's AVS is alot slower than in winamp 2x. I compared fps rates between 2.9 beta and 2.81 and fps rates were pretty much same...

23rd March 2003 17:28 UTC

It won't full screen on my machine, where as the version that was included with 2.81 does perfectly.

WinXP SP1 w/ nVidia 43.00 drivers

No Matter what reso. I have it set to.. My curser disappears, like it has drawn the window, but the windowed version is displayed with my desktop.. :(

23rd March 2003 18:28 UTC

why is it when people have problems with anything with winamp they always seem to have winXP?

23rd March 2003 18:30 UTC

i have xp - i have no problems

23rd March 2003 18:41 UTC

The beta-readme said it could crash in fullscreen. Ill stick to 2.51 until there is a final or better version

23rd March 2003 18:42 UTC

i also suspect you have a really good computer.

23rd March 2003 22:13 UTC

Not many differences, but at least they did something. Hopefully they will be working on fixing even more bugs.

24th March 2003 04:42 UTC

I am using Windows 98SE and 2.9 crashes when I load AVS, not when it's fullscreen, just when it loads.

24th March 2003 05:52 UTC

you can't change window sizes to anyting now :(

24th March 2003 06:35 UTC

It still seems as much as a CPU hog as it used to be. I'll stick to Milkdrop, thank you.

24th March 2003 07:03 UTC

The best idea really is to just keep the old 2.5.1 dll and use that instead. Better performance, more stable, more configurable (320x240 anyone?)

24th March 2003 08:47 UTC

what abou the text renderer? i havent checked it out yet, because I am still downloading it

24th March 2003 08:57 UTC

the text renderere hasnt improved yet, it still fils the blue channel and the dm is still the same.

edit: it starts properly on my "dabba" machine

AVS is never going to be fast, so if you are waiting for that then you will be a milkdropper forever :D

Go back and enjoy your speed, but you can say goodbye to variety.

!!!

24th March 2003 21:09 UTC

So another version of AVS with no cahnges at all (2.5 to 2.5.1). :) No variety but a glimmer of hope for a new version for MilkDrop. :)

24th March 2003 21:22 UTC

OK this is really weerd but when i went fullscreen only thing that happened is my cursor going inviseable when passing over winamp, I had no fulscreen and no cursor.

24th March 2003 21:23 UTC

I think this is a sign that AVS 3 will appear in the future.Like this year.Lets hope it will contain most of our wishes!

24th March 2003 21:24 UTC

It did that on 2.5 for me. I just naturally assumed it was because of my shoddy computer.

25th March 2003 08:51 UTC

 I need something new

31st March 2003 09:43 UTC

since i upgraded to beta2, fullscreen works occassionally only. nothing against the snapping window-size, but they should match the presets for fullscreen-resolutions and leave the option to disable snapping (maybe similiar as in photoshop, press ctrl-key while resizing). i tried editing the winamp.ini to get my desired resolution, but seems like avs 2.6 is pretty unimpressed of that. i guess i will downgrade..

31st March 2003 09:45 UTC

i find no change, not even crashes

31st March 2003 13:19 UTC

maybe your installation got messed up

3rd April 2003 14:32 UTC

i actually fixed the situation, for some reason the thread priority for avs was on 'higher' :D

4th April 2003 18:36 UTC

a feature i miss in 2.6 is 'stay on top on winamp minimize' :(

4th April 2003 23:02 UTC

???
Am I missing something? Where do you get AVS 2.6?

4th April 2003 23:05 UTC

http://classic.winamp.com/download/;$sessionid$4NNZNNTOXLDADTN241GBCYY

Not much different in it.
