newguy with avs winamp editor question
hi ya folks!
yes im new, probably just dumb & asking a question
already asked 100 times(i have serched and read every thing i can find on this suject)and i still need HELP!
if im posting in the wrong place im sorry.
i have just downloaded "winamp3" and was goofing with the avs stuff,
i must have hit the wrong button and now all i get is "winamp editor"
when i hit the winamp avs button furthermore the only way i can find to escape this is to hit the avs button again(the close button in the editor window wont work!)
this is what i get when i hit the avs.
the left section shows "main" and nothing els.
the right section shows the header "no effect/settings selected"
and nothing below it!
can some one please tell me what i might have done and how i might fix this problem ie. reinstall, restore factory settings...ect.
again if this problem has already ben discused please direct me to the anser and thank you in advance for all your HELP!
;)

Sounds like you docked the avs window. Right click on the black box in the bottom lefthand corner and select "undock from config". This should fix it(if I'm understanding you correctly).
The reason it only says "Main" and "no effect/setting selected" is because you haven't loaded a preset which can be done by right clicking on the window and selecting one, or making one of your own.

ok michaelthecat,one question.....why?

because winamp3 sucks large hairy testicles. winamp 2.x is more stable, easier to use, and sucks less ram.

ok im getting it.
it would help if i knew more about what makes 2x better than 3x
i do want the most bang for my buck (so to speak).

OK...Winamp 3 was COMPLETELY rewritten, so, naturally, it has many more bugs. Winamp 2 has been around for much longer, so the code has almost no bugs in it. Winamp 2 requires very little ram, while Winamp3 requires a lot. Winamp 2 starts up almost instantly, Winamp 3 takes a while. Winamp 3 only offers to big advantages: built-in video support (winamp 2 has many plugins for this) and much more configurable skins. other than that, there is nothing better in Winamp3 than in Winamp 2

I wouldn't say that winamp2 requires little ram, but it does require much less than winamp3. Other than that, you are correct.

what kind of computer do you have?
for me, Winamp 2 only takes up 6 MB of RAM. that is hardly any.

I'm not sure how much it takes when I'm not running AVS, but with AVS it takes a lot.

13 mb of ram using AVS with a pretty "busy" preset :) I still like wa3 more than wa2...dunno why even if it crashes very often :(

Just get off your current skin to the default one, and you'll be winamp3-free in no time.

Just go to GD (General Discussions) forums and post your topic. You might want to take a little insurance from flaming and constant changes in topic though.
My avatar (It's avatar, no icon!) is created by our very own Tuggummi, and he usually don't mind creating avatars as long you're rather well known and have a been a good help to him and/or everyone.
How do you gain respect? Make great AVS and help others. How do you make AVS? Learn. How do you learn? You sit down and skim through the code while trying not to get mesmerized by the window too much (Though a does of it daily might show some changes in your health, for better or worse).
How do you not get mesmerized by the window too much? Caffeine or a good dose of restlessness.
And of course, don't change the topic. :)

I'm not wise, I'm not powerful, I'm not a winamp guru - I'm just some nerd sitting behind a comp who earned respect.

I, however, AM a wise and powerful winamp guru. Bow before me, peasant.
