Hotlist 2.1 - Testers needed
Endless! I did it!!!

Nearly one Year after i released Hotlist one i've finished v2.1
For all those who don't remeber, its a VJ'ing Tool for AVS.

I'm going to upload my it in a few hours (no FTP at the moment) and i need you all for testing and (maybe) language Pack writing.

Who is gonna give me a Hand?

28th February 2003 09:54 UTC

i'll lend a hand, i've spare time

28th February 2003 10:31 UTC

You can count on meh too for da testing and language addons :) THere are many clubs here in Bucharest but i havent seen any projecting AVS.I hope i`ll change this in the future...

28th February 2003 10:52 UTC

If it doesn't have lots of technical bs i could translate it in finnish :) (or atleast try) And there is always the dictionary...

28th February 2003 15:18 UTC

Its up by now!!!
So here you go:

Hotlist - Page

28th February 2003 21:35 UTC

Its nice.I like it. Can i do romanian for it ? If you want...

1st March 2003 02:46 UTC

kind of confusing at first, i get an error message when adding presets, but it is not in English even though my language is set to english

1st March 2003 02:50 UTC

yeah i got that 2 its a mix of german and english

3rd March 2003 12:54 UTC

i could do slovenian but whats the use there's only two milion of us all together. of which about 10 have ever tried AVS (Im avare of one person besides me)... So i can do it for myself:D, nahh to lazy;)

4th March 2003 04:11 UTC

Cool - can't wait to lookey. What is it? A midi mapper?

5th March 2003 22:18 UTC

Dude - haven't had any fun with it. I get an error message which is in German when I load up and when I import and avs to the list. hmmm... perhaps I need to play more? Its also crashed a winamp .dll and hasn't done much else.
Sorry haven't had too much time.
By the way what software do you use for live video triggering? Most of the good shit is either mac OS based, expensive as hell or Japanese...

7th March 2003 17:01 UTC

Ok i got that Bug. On first startup, the Language Pack is loaded after the configurations. Thats why LAnguage Problems. The Loading Error is caused by wrong File Settings.

I got both things fixed, but i'm still setting up the Install Shield Wizard to provide a proper Installation System next time.

This should solve most of those problems, because the setup was included within the executable (it creates new folders and files, if they're placed wrong, you cant use Hotlist)

I'm gonna upload it as soon as possible.

7th March 2003 18:17 UTC

typoes in english trans:

"does'nt" -> "doesn't"
"does already exists." -> "already exists"
"informations" -> "information" (has no plural in english)
"Foreward" -> "Forward"

You should standardize your capitalisation by the way. 'Typing Sentences Like This With All or some Words Capitalised' is weird to read.

And if you have to include variables in a sentence, it's best to use the following system:
"Preset %preset does not exist." instead of "Preset" and "does not exist".
If you include multiple unknowns in one sentence, some languages will reverse the order and will be unable to use your system.

9th March 2003 22:02 UTC

Just out of interest - does it midi map? That could be quite helpful.

10th March 2003 11:16 UTC

@ UnConeD: Yeah, typoes, i knew there would be some. Why don't you write a language pack, it would be better then my crappy english :D
Just send it as an Email, i'm gonna add it to my code then. (Oh and you could review the doc as well then ;) )

@ legohead: it doesnt do anything midi related. Version one was hotkey based, but i experienced that this was a bad way to control avs. I know it would be nice to control avs via midi, but there's no point in doing this would be very unorganized.

10th March 2003 14:01 UTC

Checked it out and I must say I LOVE it:up: . just what I was wishing for (some wishes do come true:)yay). I even made the pointles slovenian lanuguage pack:D. I will send it to you anyway.

There are two things that bother me though. The fist one is you cant save lists (I'll get over this:)), and the second one which is easy to solve is I HATE THE NO PICTURE graphic. I hate it as much as I love Hotlist. Its just useles, you cant see it among all the preset pictures:(. I edited the bitmap to my own needs (made a BIG red x on white background and wrote NO PICTURE below - works perfectly), but if you choose to delete all the pictures the file gets replaced  :hang:.

Please, please, please, please change that picture,or code it so that it wount change it back :)

I sugest a bigg red X on white background without the text because that gets messed up with resizeing.

Anyway, love what you did, THANK YOU for shareing it.

woot-finnaly lost the junior thing:D

12th March 2003 16:31 UTC

Debugged Version out now!!! :D
Yo Guys, i debugged some things and added an Installer.

Get it on the Hotlist-Page

By chance, it happend that i deactivated the Picture Changeback.

More Things to come Up in V2.2:

-onbeat preset changing :D
-saveable hotlists
-improved picture loading
-language packs with placeholders

I'm on it, keep on writing Language Packs ;)

12th March 2003 17:18 UTC

If you send me the latest english language pack before releasing it (email steven at acko.net) I'll correct it and do a Dutch translation if you want.

12th March 2003 17:42 UTC

but why MSI and not NSIS ?

12th March 2003 18:15 UTC

:o because InstallShield:

-does Registry Settings
-does all the Stuff with subdirs and so on
-supports a deinstaller
-creates the shortcuts
-is damn easy to handle and updates itself for every version

12th March 2003 18:44 UTC

nsis does that aswell.. and it's completely free!

btw: would be nice to have some screenshots on you websites. i like seeing a software before i install it.

12th March 2003 20:46 UTC

NSIS does all the things you mentioned and is a LOT smaller :)

14th March 2003 10:13 UTC

ya its by birthday today!!

14th March 2003 12:16 UTC

And NSIS doesn't unroll itself 50 f**kin times before installation.

14th March 2003 12:35 UTC

[OFFTOPIC]
Endura, happy birthday :)
[/OFFTOPIC]

I still haven't tested this, but i guess there is no rush with the finnish translation since there hardly is finnish VJ's that use avs O_o

Ooh and gotta download the new version while im at it.

20th March 2003 11:54 UTC

I havnt received one single language pack yet. :(

You're really lazy guys ;)

But that doesnt matter as V2.2 will need updated packs anyway, so just wait 1-2 weeks until finalisation.

Has anyone else some ideas for V2.2??

20th March 2003 12:35 UTC

Yes we are a bit lazy :) Or atleast i am.
Also i thought this isn't a rush job so it's not on the top of my things to do list.

21st March 2003 12:09 UTC

hehe.

At least i hope ther will be more enthusiasm when v2.2 is out.

I just tested the onbeat preset switching - w00t!

24th March 2003 07:45 UTC

Aw, c'mon guys, i asked for improvement ideas some days ago and nothing happend.

Ai'nt anyone interested in this program??? :(

24th March 2003 10:21 UTC

OK, I have an idea:).
it would be cool to have 'save to hotkey 1,2,3,...' options,
when you right click on a preset and that list drops down.
The first 10 keys would be enough.

I would love this function:)

Could you explain what the hell is the difference between edit and non edit mode:?

The new version doesn't remember which language I use:(

p.s. others arent VJing, thats why they dont give a rats ass about the software:D. I used it this weekend:).

24th March 2003 12:25 UTC

Editing mode will show / hide the file selection ont the left side.
I dont know why the Language is not remembered,it should be stored in the registry at local_machine/software/hotlist, please check that.

But this will change in V2.2 too as Language Packs will use placeholders then (as UnConed suggested).

New Features that already work:
-Onbeat Presetchanging through an APE
-Loading & Saving of Multiple Lists, even allows adding existing lists :D
-Extended, hideable Status Bar
-Extended Main Menu
-Deleting all currently not used Pictures (very usefull)
-New Language Pack Style
-Edit Area now sizeable
-Automation now on a seperate hideable ToolBar

Planned but not done:
-Loading all pictures on Startup and only once.
-NSIS Installer ;)
-Allow multiple instances of one Preset
-Allow custom sort of Presets (Drag & Drop)

Hmm, Hotkeys again?!

I used Hotkeys for Version 1, but this way was (as i experienced) a bit too complicated, so i introduced clicking :D

Well in addition it could be usefull again.

But:
When the ListView is selected and you hit a key, Hotlist will jump to the first entry beginning with the typed letter. Therefore, Hotkeys would only be good with the F Keys, otherwise there would be conflict.

To explain how Hotlist works:
-it saves the location of the presets
-onload, it copies the prest to AVS/F1.aph andsimulates F1 beeing pressed

Possible Solution:

Hotlists FKey is changed to F12
On demand, single prests are copied to F1 - F11 sperately
If you enable the Hotkey passthrough, you can access them now directly

Or do you want this to be handled by Hotlist iself (Remeber the Preset, handle it as loading, resetting the counter and so on)?

24th March 2003 12:38 UTC

.s. others arent VJing, thats why they dont give a rats ass about the software :D. I used it this weekend :).
Tis true that i don't VJ, but i do want to make a finnish language pack. Though i haven't had the time to test it even once :( But as i said, it's not on top of my priority list.

Ok, lets get back to the Topic. ;)
If you want to continue discussing this we should open a "Tuggummi loves Porn" treat.

btw: T', need more Smileys?

25th March 2003 06:11 UTC

Did i say i wanted to continue it? As i see it you started it. Now thanks to you people tell me "Get a life" , "Don't watch that show" , "You're sick" . Even my sense of humour has a line and you just crossed it.

25th March 2003 07:38 UTC

I'm Sorry, i really am. It was'nt meant to be anything against you. Furthermore i did'nt thought that anyone would take this seriously. Please accept my apologie.

25th March 2003 07:42 UTC

Ok, i didn't thought you ment anything by it, but rest of the forum members might not be so "understanding" :)

Anyway it's all cool now, it's locked and it will be forgotten in a couple of days/week.

25th March 2003 07:49 UTC

I dont know what this "six feet under" thing is all about, dont even know this show.

25th March 2003 07:53 UTC

A TV serie about undertakers :)
It's a helluva lot better than the normal american tv series crap. (exception Dark Angel & Stargate)

25th March 2003 08:03 UTC

I hardly watch anything on tv except news channels for some reason (Iraq & Warlord Bush) because i have no time to. When i come home from work, i turn on my PC and start working on Hotlist, implementing new funktions that have been suggested.

Wow, now i got it back to the topic :D

Note for fsk: I made the Hotkey thing working.

25th March 2003 15:30 UTC

Yay,woot and all that stuff:). I like the hotkeys because they are fast (you can have a series of similar presets and switch between them).

Hey you are working on this a lot arent you? When is 2.2 gettin realesed? Can't wait.

Oh about edit mode, when you said IT WILL, did you mean it'doesnt do that yet?
Because it doesnt on my computer:).

In fact it's the only thing i do when i get home :D
yesterday i had to pause coz i badly needed some sleep (i fell to bed as soon as i was home) but today i'm continouing.

If you want a preview, here is the current state of work, something between alpha and beta: Hotlist V2.2 Preview.
I doesnt come with any language packs yet. Furthermore, be sure to add a "User Lists" Folder to your Hotlist Folder and copy the Language Packs to a "Laguage Packs" Folder.

Now that's confusing me. The Button or Menu entry should show or hide it.:igor:

31st March 2003 09:16 UTC

Ok for all those who are interested in this program (is there anyone besides fsk or am i just spaming the forum?) here is the current state of work for V2.2:

-just figured out an algorithm how to add my BeatDetectionAPE to AVS-files automatically through hex-manipulation (cough, that was something)
-i'm halfway done with updating the existing language packs
-i added some markers to the new hotkey function, if you hotkey a preset, the name of the hotkey will apear in the upleft corner of the screenshot :D

1st April 2003 09:05 UTC

I just tried out the 2.2 preview and it rocks :)

1st April 2003 12:51 UTC

Glad to see that you like it :D i gotta do some more coding and the APE you got is buggy - try to run it without hotlist open and it will munch your resources! Fixed that.

7th April 2003 09:46 UTC

Ok, current state of work:

Done with APE autoadding. :D
Nearly done with the new Help Doc.
Added Drag & Drop custom sort.

But there's still plenty of stuff to go.
Next release aproximately friday.

17th April 2003 12:35 UTC

Current state of work:

Since the Forums were down i was'nt very productive, but i'm almost done anyway.

There are some few things to do like docking/undocking toolbars (i know this has nothing to do with its functionality, but i like smart apps :D)

You'll get it here as soon as i'm done and i'm gonna have a week of, so it wont be long ;-)

5th May 2003 14:49 UTC

You'll get it here as soon as i'm done and i'm gonna have a week of, so it wont be long ;-)
:(
I want it, I need it, GIVE IT TO ME NOW!:D

edit/ tmw: Please :)

5th May 2003 15:06 UTC

btw. once this topic is back up...

Magic, i did test Hotlist eventually, but it didn't seem to work at all. It did launch the program and you could select a list of avs presets, but it didn't load them in the avs window... Also i got a lot of these error messages (all in german :igor:) when i launched & closed the program...

Im running windows 98SE in case your wondering.

5th May 2003 23:12 UTC

yeah, same shit happened to me.I use winXP.Debug it Magic :)

6th May 2003 07:22 UTC

Already renewed some stuff, mostly internal Management.

German error messages are the result of the German Delphi i work with - send me a screenshot of em.

Tug, i dont think it's a fault of your OS, as this is developped on WinMe. But i also tested it on XP before publishing so that shouldnt be the prob.

6th May 2003 11:13 UTC

As I noticed it, the error happens if you dont have the directories set right(or if winamp and hotlist are installed on a server:)).The bugg that bothers me most is the thing with screenshoots in XP, but as you said you dunno why its there and therfore cant fix it:).Anyway im realy looking forward to the realese of the software because I dont wanna do the whole screen shot thing over and over again, and this version is gonna have saveble lists and whatnot(roXorz):).

6th May 2003 11:17 UTC

And onbeat presetswitching! :D w00t

To make the screenshot more stable i added a Delay for next version which will give the AVS window enough time to be brought to front. I dont actually know but maybe this also helps to solve the XP problem.

9th May 2003 01:05 UTC

Awesome dude - I can't give you feedback on any of your releases yet - Im still getting error messages when I import .avs files...
and they're in German!! Im dling 2.2 so hopefully your bugs are gone so's I can gets yer some feeeeedback ya'll.

9th May 2003 06:09 UTC

Please send me the screnshots of the error messages, only this way i can figure out what's exactly going on.

Just saying "when i try X or Y i get an error message" wont help me much because this could have various reasons.

[EDIT] worked a lot on it yesterday, optimized the resizing routine -> should work about 20 times faster now w00t

2nd June 2003 17:38 UTC

I am sorry about puting this string up again, but damn it I have to remind Magic again. I have a gig on saturday and I would really like to try the new version:(. Magic please finnish the damn thing, or publish whatever you got:D (just make it english please:)).

p.s. yes I can be a pain in the ass :p

4th June 2003 18:58 UTC

@Magic.X: ich drück mal die Daumen, dass es bald fertig wird ;)
noch ein paar verlängerte Wochenenden...

@fsk: be patient and make more avs-pacs :p

5th June 2003 07:43 UTC

FSK, send me an email, i'll reply with the 2.2 prerelease version i send to goebish.

Just replace your old version. The first run may seem to be a bit odd, after the second everything will be ok. And get the beatdetector APE out of the 2.2 Preview or from the new Version of Playlister (made the APE compatible to Playlister, so Goeb has it too ;))

16th June 2003 14:15 UTC

hmm,i sent you my mail adress to the mail you have here at winamp but didn't get any reply (maybee because i missed the deadline:)).I still want it dough:D, my next gig is on 20.6. and I have a felling 2.2 isnt comeing out till then:).
Me and my crew:) are being interviewed by some small(party)magazine.
the question for me is :Where and how do you make your visuals?:). And the point: you can be sure im gonna mention Magic's Hotlist:D.

fskolog@volja.net

16th June 2003 14:55 UTC

I had some trouble sending you the Mail. Sorry, but it seemed impossible. :(

Anyway, 2.2 definately IS going to be out this week. :D

All i need is updating the docs and get the installer ready.

16th June 2003 15:10 UTC

WOOT:):)

17th June 2003 06:35 UTC

Ok, docs got done yesterday! Aaaand: i kicked out that fucky sucky XP - Screenshot Bug ... YaY! :D

19th June 2003 07:40 UTC

Dammit!

Yesterday, I worked till 2:30 at night to get the Installer done and to eliminate the last "first run" bugs.

But now there seams if anothere one sneaked in somehow.

Seems you gotta wait till tomorrow, sorry folks.

19th June 2003 11:42 UTC

keeping my fingers crossed:)

19th June 2003 11:55 UTC

fsk, the bugged version is already online, so if you want it that bad you can go and try out :-)

This version seems to be unable to load & save the settings file (previous hotlist) and retrieves errors but by playing around you'll get it to work so you can test it.

19th June 2003 12:16 UTC

So I just install this over the previous version or what?
(to keep the screenshots)

19th June 2003 12:44 UTC

Right. But be carefull with uninstalling, cause this kills everything within the main dir.

20th June 2003 09:34 UTC

hey magic x, thanks for the soft am checking it out now, i assume its similar to Playlister (i think that's what its called).

but what i would like most now for avs is a video capture plugin that works!

and that you can play the same avi in consecutive presets without it not playing the second time or crashing!

Exeris
www.vjexeris.com

20th June 2003 10:13 UTC

Exeris, it's a proggy for the same purpose but they differ here and there in style and functionality. :)

Just looked at your web:

-performed with Astral Projection, Luis Diaz, Kevin Saunderson, Evil Eddie Richards, Hallucinogen and several other top electronic acts and DJ's
w00t! Astral and Hallucinogen? Some of my Favorite Acts! :D

You must be quite professional, huh? ;)
