I'm currently in Algebra (Currently wrapping up parabolas) and have a good dose of logic....
I'm thinking of taking extra math courses, but I'm the kind of person who is paranoid, afraid of too many things, and is too goddamned lazy, so I guess good luck to me.

I'm taking AP Calculus AB right now. I know more than my teacher - scary.

I am in 9th std
In India, the education system is very different.
I am 14 years old, so I am in 9th std.
in kindergarden (did i spell it right?) you learn basic add,subtract..
in fourth standard - adavnced division, multiplication.
5-8...area, volume, quadratic equaltions, linear equations in one unknown, etc..
in 9th std. maths is divided into 2, algebra and geomerty.
in geomerty, there is isoscles theorem, midpoint theorem, etc, etc, etc, etc, and a lot of etc.
more advanced in 10th std.
in 11th, i.e Junior College, you learn trig.
I learnt a lot of trig at this age only..for AVS you know.

I'm in precal/trig2 (again)...though I really should be in calculus by now... :grumbles:
as a matter of fact, i should be into second semester calculus, if it weren't for the fact that i can't get answers right the first time i do 'em. really, i AM good at math. i just can't ever do a problem right the first time, and i'm too compulsive to check them :p

Im in the 9th grade here (15 years old) and curently i finished algebra with alot of stuff like ecuations(and the second grade one) functions.Parabolas are wrapped hehe and trig i did in the 7th grade. The schools here in Romania ask for a lot of knowledge and compared to other countries we do twice as much as they would do.For example i do in the 9th grade what you do in the 10th or 11th hehe

I've already graduated so i can say http://www.htwm.de/mkrause1/polymorp...e_megaphon.gif "I had it all!!!"
Most of it complex equations, analysis, integration and that kind of crap.

Algebra 3 / Trig i guess, im not very sure (10-nth grade tho)...
Mostly ive learned my math at home myself, in the school the math is just so god deam simple...

Jack you sound like Einstein lol.Anyway most of the algebra we learn has no connection to avs(except for some equations that only UnConed nixa or jheriko can use to but some mega scopes or DMs).Trig remains the base.

You're wrong.
As you're dealing with i, its all based on equations.
f(i)=x=i*2-1

Can't answer the poll, it doesn't cater for those of us outside the USA. :) I did Maths Methods in yr12 (I'm in first year TAFE now, no maths baby!!!), which entails graphing/equations, trig, calculus and probability (mainly distributions).
BTW, I really don't get the American maths system. Why do they divide each topic into its own subject?

Did you finish last year? If so, what was your ENTER? Mine was 77.75.

Michaelthecat, is that supposed to be algebra 2/trig???
mikm
28th February 2003 02:33 UTC
not where I come from...the '3' is the semester
so freshman year (or 8th grade if you're smart) is Algebra 1-2, Sophomore/Junior year is Algebra 3 / Trig (one semester of Algebra 3, one of trig)...and btw, Phaze, it is not a lot of geomtery because geometry is more dealing with properties of shapes, so AVS uses more trig and algebra...you can't just say 'draw rhombus' to make a rhombus.
hmm...i just noticed something...the people on the button that adds a person to your buddy list are all frowning

uNDefineD, I'm doing my final year, so I'll tell you next year ;)
And here, we only have a few groups of secondary level maths at year 11 and 12: Foundation (dumbass maths), General, Further (Year 12 General), Maths Methods (Yr 11 & 12), and Specialist Maths. I'm doing methods and specialist :D, although methods has all been done before, the specialist is kinda fun, but only touches the basics of the more advanced maths.

Originally posted by Jack the kingi also learnt trig at home, using the internet. we have trig in 11th std, and I am still in 9th, i think that's what high school is. i get confused with the american education system. hardy boys were 17-18 yrs old and they went to high school, so those who go to junior college, they too are of the same age. after 12th std, you go to college and after three years, you graduate from college, i.e BSc, Bcom, BA or whatever. then you can furthur study and become MA, MSc, etc (master in sc.).
Algebra 3 / Trig i guess, im not very sure (10-nth grade tho)...
Mostly ive learned my math at home myself, in the school the math is just so god deam simple...

American HS Education System (for those who don't know):
9th / Freshman (ages 14-15): Algebra or Geometry
10th / Sophomore (ages 15-16): Geometry or Algebra/Trig
11th / Junior (ages 16-17): Algebra/Trig or Precalculus
12th / Senior (ages 17-18): Precalculus or Calculus

ehm...not really. that "system" here is really loose - you learn 'em in that order, but not at specifically that age. same with all other classes.

ok now im too much confused...
can just anyone tell me what part those go...
aŽ2 = bŽ2 + cŽ2 - 2ab*cos(a);
d = sqrt((x2-x1)Ž2+(y2-y1)Ž2);

That's trigonometry. (Though I sorta doubt about the 2nd line - that's the distance formula...)
Oh, and I think we got a little key crossover problem...
Z=^, I assume?
anubis2003

I love the distance formula. I use it all the time. Great way to get things to center around a certain point and/or check for collisions between those damn complicated ballz.

Im finnished with high school, and since there is no math on my college that's it for me. But I cant say what I did and did not take because I didn't pay much attention to math in highschool. I think the last thing we did was integration and stuff:) but I cant say really.

UnConeD
5th March 2003 21:04 UTC
It's true that geometry and trig have the most direct applications in AVS, but stuff like systems of equations, matrices, integration/derivation etc. can all be used in scopes and dm's too
nixa
5th March 2003 21:38 UTC
I just finished whith basics of combinations, permutations and probalilety and am starting whith derivations and stuff.
Its true that in avs you can use anything from 1+1=2 to the most perverse theories and formulas but the most important thing is yore imagination :)

Im another Aussie, and I am in Year 11, 5th form for you foreigners,
I take Advanced ( 2 Unit ) Maths, and Advanced English, Plus Chem, Bio , Engineering Stduies and other rubbish,
What I want to know is, how long did it take you to actually learn avs? were you immediately able to jump in with your maths knowledge or did you sit back and learn like I did, cause i havent even seen any Jheriko or UnConeD making N00bish presets like I did.

what part of it dont you belive artero? I could scan all my well.. papers and they all say math=2(out of five). Not proud of that:D.
Twice I even had a negative grade at the end of the year:(. I was muchn better with phisics though 4(I was a lazy bastard and never did homework:D):)
as for the progres thing DL my packs and check the dates:)

Just this year I missed an enite topic from advanced maths ( invent any reason you want ) When I took the test for it I scored an unholy 1/25.
It was a shocker,
Fortunately many others did as disgracefully as I :D
