History of AVS
I am writing a 'History of Visualizations' article and obviously WA fetaures pretty heavily in it (or will do)
Now does nayone know when AVS first appeared with winamp?
Winamp Heaven is not much help to me although it does give dates of WA version and the option to download.

I seem to remember AVS first came with Winamp 2.6... I could be wrong, it might have been 2.5c... I think 2.5c is a real version ,anyway around about 2.6/2.5-ish. Hope that helps to some degree.

i think that was the first time, that AVS was
bundled with winamp. it should've been available as standalone before.
tonic is indeed the right person to speak to, it were his presets i downloaded first in summer 2000.

you might want to have the first alpha versions of avs:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=112233
read winamp's whatsnew.txt:
Winamp 2.61:
* AVS 1.5a6 (coming soon, 1.50)
Winamp 2.666:
* AVS 2.1 . New blitter/movement filtering, MMX optimized, new presets.
...
I won't list every mentioning of avs in whatsnew.txt, find the rest yourself
get those old winamp versions at http://www27.brinkster.com/winampheaven/ (you probably knew that already)
