Archive: AVS Pack!

AVS Pack!
Here's what I hope will be my final draft for my AVS pack. I'm planning on renaming most of the presets before submitting it, of course.

I still need to add comments that give Nic01 credit for all the DM help, etc.---I will do that before submitting my pack also.

This is a good portion of the reason why I've been silent for so long in the AVS forum.

Sauraun's eye is looking pretty sweet.

I'd look take a second look at the colour combinations on some of those.

What ever happened to that sting preset?

You've come a long way since you first draft. (and cut out a lot for sure, I remeber those 50 some odd candidates) The DMs are decent, and I was able to get a good framerate on all your presets.

Lookin' good.

sound pack all round. some of the colours kind of jar though. they might look better if they were toned down a bit and kept to one colour range, one avs.

alien flower and sauron's eye are both v v ace as they are and random colourtile scopes is pretty cool, but i think it looks better with the scopes before the movement.

hopes this helps. good luck with the final version

I never could get sting to be quite what I had originally hoped for it to be, so I'll probably mess around with it & release it with several other presets that I decided not to put in my 1st AVS Pack in a special AVS Pack called the "Out-takes."

Thanks for the help, all.

Nic01: How about some more lessons?

correction & question
I have a correction to make to the pack. # 13 is repetitious, so I decided to combine two presets DMs to create a new # 13.

Okay, guys. You said the colors weren't quite right. Given that I'm part colorblind (very slight...but enough to make some of my creations...somewhat...colorful), maybe you could clue me into which ones need changing.

Greetings
Just a hello from a new member,

I have been observing the cmontford and Nic01 disscussions and have seen some of the presets, :D I have to say thanks to Nic01 for his indepth help he's give cmontford because I have gathered a lot of questions I had myself and have had them answerd too. Well done boys, its interesting to see your (cmontford's) prestes slowly evolve. I have in the past tinkered with Avs and am studing Science, We use a Program called Maple 8 (no doubt lots have heard of it) and its a Uni thing. Hey I wanna use AVS FOR SURE  (I dont think I can use it in place for my curriculum tho) I just love pretty colourz. I've gone and gotten all insipred and have spent the last week reaserching the AVS interface and seen some cool presets - I really like some of the Tuggummi ones. I'd like to implement some fluid dynamic equations fractal equations and perhabs some wave dynamics, one Vis pluging that is a total inspiration and I recomened evryone to see is the Giess "smoke" plugin its where the coding is at.:igor:

Enuff rambling from me I shall in the near future contirbute myself and I'd just like to add that all you AVS designers out there are well wicked in my books

Aint the MMD3 skin just the coolest !!!

welcome to the forums (^_^)

and good luck with your avsing. if you need help with avs related matters i'm sure someone here will always be willing (^_^)

VisualAgnosia: Since you like colors so much, maybe you could give me some advice about what color problems my presets have. I hope? You know I'm slightly colorblind, which sometimes (not too often) causes problems for me.

I'm open to other opinions on color, too. Just name the preset & the color combination that clashes in the preset & I'll try to work the math to tone down my colors some.

2nd December 2002 00:39 UTC

ok i've been through them and these are the ones whose colours don't really work with me, but i guess it's all really subjective, cos everyone thinks different colour combinations look good.

hope this helps (i'm not trying to be insulting (^_^) )

04: pink/yellow combination a bit odd, but it is growing on me.
05: sometimes you get really really dodgy combinations, othertimes it's ok. purple and green = eeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhh.
06: the red particle doesn't really fit in with everything else
08: again purpley pink and green plus too bright particles.
10: again you sometimes get pink and green
13: red particle again.
14: pink splodge in bottom right of screen doesn't go with green middle.

When you said # 13, is that the new one or the old one? (Not that it really matters for the purpose of the preset, because the new one would need to be changed anyway)

You know why I did red, white, & blue? Just tried to pick the colors of the USA's flag. But if the red clashes, I can live without one of the three.

Well, I'll try to post some rmxs tomorrow (;) Good luck! With my schedule?!?) Well, maybe not tomorrow, but soon.

I can only promise so much. I don't know, but looking at the rmx I tried tonight made me queasy. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me from being on the computer too much; I'll see ASAP (worst case: next weekend)

Thank you all so very much for all your help. I'm calling it a night...my eyes are killing me.

2nd December 2002 05:36 UTC

hey yeah cmountford,
I've downloaded some of your presets and as far as colours go, and I can only give my personal opinion, there seems to be a needs for more variation in colour schemes. (I tend to go using either pastel colours or neon cyberpunk and sometimes naturalistic eartyh colours) Even if this is what I intend for I usually end up getting something slightly different, althought I seem compelled towards the fire spreads of yellow through to dark red alot ? mabey I'm a fire bug at heart.

I'm not really overly colour orientated, But I do think that colour schemes are almost one of the most important parts of AVS, Afterall its colours that link us deeper to our primal minds than effects. Some of the best presets I've seen are suprizingly simple but can have you staring for hours just because the look so asthetically nice. Then again I think its totaly viable to fuck up a colour scheme for artistic purposes, (that should be justifed BTW). Just look at art paintings and photo's by really good artists, you'll see what artists are going for, ie. some of Andy Warhols art is very colour specific even though it might look a bit off to start with, It's usually accompanied by a rush of realisation.

Shit I hope that didn't sound too wanky.

Just find something that really (really) appeals to you colour specificaly and reduce it down to its composites and emulate it with extreemist fanaticism. then no-one can bust your chops cause, their simple overlook cannot compare to extreem intent and manipulation even if it looks like baby puke. Someone who has a subconcious connection to baby puke is probbably going to get some kind of enlightenment out of it.

just "do what you wanna do, be what you wanna be .. yeah"

For and example of some colour schemes I'ved used I've attached a couple presest I did way before I ever looked at the coding side of things back about a year ago with Winamp 2 baby yeah !

One's what I think the surface of the sun looks like, the other is a good example of baby puke, but I'm solid in my intent for the colours. Dont be too impressed tho they're made with original presets.

*********************************************************************

B4 I go cause I'm new to Avs maths code does does any of the experienced Guru's out there know how to emulate matricie equation's, "SETS" or 3D coordinates into Avs variables. Or some really good advanced tutorials.

I wanna shoot for some 3D fractal similtude SSC's eventually.
I'm still on my way to sussing out 2D mauipulation actually.

jeyeah !

See my previous post.

Check Unconed's FAQ, there are links in there.

5th December 2002 04:20 UTC

Well, I'm not too terribly concerned with color schemes---after all, this is only going to be my first AVS pack. I just want to try to make it so that people don't take one look at some of the colors and puke. You get the idea.

Right now all I'm really focusing on is the math, and I want to get this submitted before LOTR The Two Towers comes out. (Unlikely, though.)

5th December 2002 06:52 UTC

I thought you were asking advise on colour schemes, I'm may not be an expert on code yet but I know colours. They take alot of time to perfect, seeing as you have 256 million of em or something (dont bother correcting me if I'm wrong I dont care).

You are right tho one step at a time. I'm getting to grips with one part at a time myself, mainly the SSC I havn't even looked a DM's yet . I've checked heaps through the forums and got a fair bit out of it especially the basics, I got some wicked help from UnConeD to the way SSC can emulate 3d, and I think as far as help goes I was pretty lucky to get as indepth descripiton as that (hey Atero). But still It's a matter of reasearching yourself for more advanced stuff... I'm lucky to have gotten one of my maths lectures into or having a look, ( he's the full mathematician Phd kitancaboodle ), at AVS belive it or not, It's cool tho because I fully get to pick his brain, and he probly feels like he's down with the funky hip young kids with there pop music.. Never know tho it might become part of the curriculum, I doubt it but that'd be cool...

"Ok for today's lecture we're going to have alook at the Advanced Visualisation Studio ... It actually responds to the musical frequencies like this track i've put on, "Fuck the police" by N.W.A."

The point I was origanly trying to make tho was It takes alot of time just to make one preset if your going for something specific..

If you want something thats "Not going to make people puke" meaning a majority of the populous.. do some research (psycologicaly based perhaps) on popular colour schemes like through history and you should be able to find stuff in thousands of Art books on pop art and such. Or even colour schemes for popular housing ... or marketing. ( as far a popularity is concerned). Take a trip to the libaray or search engine.

My problem being all the stuff I want to specificaly make is beyond my Avs control in it's intirety for now, But if your brain works like it should you get there eventually as each part become more clear.

I'd be interested to compare some of you SSC's cmontford if your up for a bit of back and forth on that topic..

LOTR
Hey CMountford,

This ones for you buddy Inspired by your version of Sauron's eye, Still cant get heaps of elements to happen as I'd like to but it's just a start.

Hey Tuggummi, If I could only get the flames like your "Burning" Preset (props 2 U bruzza). If anyone would like to have a go remixing it feel free. (if they could work through my mess)

Greek Vs Elven the showdown :D

5th December 2002 11:33 UTC

VisualAgnosia, there are loads of better flame effects around than that one. Try example Whacko AVS I which had a really cool fire effect in the intro preset. Of course you need to ask UnConeD for the permission to use it, but for a little pointer what a fire effect should be like it's good :)

5th December 2002 11:51 UTC

UnConed's the man thats for sure, I would ask and if I did he'd probably say yes cause hes a legend, but If I use some one elses then I wont be able to do it myself..

As far as your burning preset goes I think its way good. Its uses movement and Dm's hey?

I got the flames moving to the left with movment and some different effect blends n whatnot, with some moving particles to look like sparks and ash or sum'n. I like to be able to fill the holes in the flames and have the direction of the Psudeo wind mabey swiviling 180 to the right and back etc. I'm speuing tho cause I had an effect happening where I had the words jumping up with the flames almost half the screen but my computer blue screened and I hadn't saved it and couldn't replicate it again. (Seen it in the wish list bring on the save button) I didn't spend much time on it as far as colours and effort goes ... for now.

What about my fire effect?

Okay, here's some color remixes. Some presets I didn't want to change much.
